Watch: Patrick Reed holes out for albatross, only fourth in history of U.S. Open
🚨 ALBATROSS ALERT 🚨@PReedGolf with a 2 on a par 5, just the 4th in U.S. Open history! pic.twitter.com/FNDFzWwlzT — U.S. Open (@usopengolf) June 12, 2025
Patrick Reed did something Thursday that only three others have ever done in the history of the U.S. Open.
Playing his fourth hole during the opening round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, Reed hit a 3-wood from 286 yards on the par-5 second hole. His ball landed at the front of the green and took a couple of hops before releasing, and it never left the cup. The ball rolled into the hole, and voila, it was an albatross for Reed.
The other three golfers to accomplish the feat are Nick Watney at Olympic Club in 2012, Shaun Micheel at Pebble Beach in 2010 and T.C. Chen at Oakland Hills in 1985.
The big bird moved Reed from 1 over to 2 under in the first round and to T-5 on the leaderboard.

Philip Barbaree fires first sub-60 score in PGA Tour Americas history
Philip Barbaree Jr.'s summer just got even better. About a month removed from qualifying for the U.S. Open and eventually finishing 66th at Oakmont, Barbaree fired the first sub-60 score in PGA Tour Americas history, a 13-under 59 Saturday at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Ottawa. There were three sub-60 rounds prior to the merger of PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica – 58, Jason Bohn, 2001, Canadian Tour; 59, Greyson Sigg, 2019, PGA Tour Canada; 59, Drew Nesbitt, 2018, PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Barbaree's round included 11 birdies and an eagle, which came on his final hole, the par-5 18th. Barbaree closed birdie-birdie-eagle, and he'll enter Sunday at 20 under, which was good enough for the clubhouse lead. Barbaree entered the week 35th in the Fortinet Cup. There are seven tournaments remaining in the season, and the top 10 players in points at season's end will earn Korn Ferry Tour cards.

Post 2 falls to Charleston Post 65, 11-4, faces elimination game Saturday against Beckley
MORGANTOWN – Morgantown Post 2 managed only four hits and committed three errors on Friday night in an 11-4 loss to Charleston Post 65 on Day Two of the 2025 WV American Legion Baseball State Tournament. Post 2 outfielder Kane Williams continued his hot streak at the plate with two doubles to lead Morgantown, but Charleston tallied 11 hits to score their 11 runs and advance to the 2-0 game against Wheeling Post 1 on Saturday night. Morgantown will square off with Beckley Bash Post 32 on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in an elimination game. Charleston starting pitcher Trisdon Ciampanella tossed 4.1 innings with only one hit allowed and ten strikeouts on Friday night. 'He (Ciampanella) threw a lot of pitches we weren't ready for,' Post 2 head coach Jacob Goonight said. 'He didn't have his fastball to start the game and was getting us to swing at pitches that were tough to hit. I don't think we honed in on our approach until the fourth inning when he left the game. We didn't change anything or try to adjust enough to win that game.' Charleston broke the ice in the third inning as Landon Nida singled home a run to give his team a lead it wouldn't surrender. Five more runs came for Post 65 in the top of the fourth on only three hits. Luke Buckner doubled, scoring two runs before an error allowed two more. Grant Barclay added a final one in the inning with a single. Post 2 got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Parker Jeffries scored on a wild pitch. Mason Chaney and Nate Wolfe then each singled home a run to cut the lead in half, 6-3. But Post 65 scored another run in the top of the sixth and added four more in the seventh to slam the door on the tournament hosts. 'It started from the bats for us, when you aren't hitting well, it feeds into other areas of the game,' Goodnight said. 'It just wasn't a clean game for us. We preach clean, fun baseball, and I don't think we played the opposite of that today.' Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez reach the semifinals in Washington, just like at the 2021 US Open
Emma Raducanu reached the semifinals at the D.C. Open — the biggest tournament where she's made it that far since her surprising 2021 U.S. Open title — by eliminating Maria Sakkari 6-4, 7-5 on Friday. On a muggy day with the temperature topping 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius), Raducanu took a medical timeout while reeling off the last five games of the match after trailing 5-2 in the second set. 'I would like to say I'm pretty good in the heat, for the most part, but I was really struggling today,' said Raducanu, who was 18 when she became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam singles trophy. 'It was one of the toughest matches, conditions-wise, I have ever played in. ... Those points in the second set, I was getting a bit wobbly. I'm just happy I could close it out, and it was two sets.' Also reaching the semifinals at the hard-court tournament in Washington was Leylah Fernandez, the runner-up to Raducanu at Flushing Meadows four years ago. Fernandez moved on with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over qualifier Taylor Townsend on Thursday. Next for Fernandez is a matchup against 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, the highest remaining seed in the field at No. 3. Rybakina was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over No. 5 Magdanela Frech, the player who beat Venus Williams on Thursday night. Raducanu's semifinal opponent Saturday will be Anna Kalinskaya, who defeated No. 4 Clara Tauson 6-3, 7-5. In men's action, Ben Shelton made it to the D.C. Open semifinals for the second consecutive year, getting past Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (2), 6-4 in an all-American quarterfinal at night. Shelton won 90% of his first-serve points and ended the match with his ninth ace, at 146 mph. The fourth-seeded Shelton, a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist, will face No. 12 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Saturday for a berth in the final. Davidovich Fokina beat No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz on Friday night, 7-6, 3-5, 7-6 (3). The other men's semifinal will be No. 7 Alex de Minaur against Corentin Moutet. De Minaur beat No. 14 Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-4, and Moutet was a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner over 2021 U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev in a match delayed for about an hour late in the third set because of lightning in the area.
