'Canada is a joke': Indian engineer spared from jail after trying to buy 'girlfriend experience' from 15-year-old because...
An Indian engineer in Canada, Akashkumar Narendrakumar Khant, who admitted to trying to buy sex from a 15-year-old girl, was given a conditional discharge by an Ontario judge, Canada's National Post reported -- sparking major outrage on social media with many people finding it difficult to understand any logic behind the verdict.
The judge granted a conditional release to the Indian man to help him and his wife with their immigration status, as a conviction would lead delay in getting Canadian citizenship, and the judge said since they are not citizens, the man should not be punished according to the law that's applicable to citizens.
In a decision on June 25, Ontario Court Justice Paul Thomas O'Marra said, '...a conviction would lead to severe collateral consequences, such as jeopardizing his immigration status, delaying his citizenship, and preventing him from sponsoring his wife, which would likely result in their separation.'
National Post reported that the conditional discharge includes three months of house arrest during which he can go shopping fr three hours every Sunday, attend religious services, medical appointments, and travel to and from work.

Akashkumar Khant
? What is the case?
Khant immigrated to Canada from Gujarat, India, in 2019 to pursue a civil engineering degree. He got married in 2023 and his wife is in Canada on a work visa. In 2023, Khant contacted a sex trade advertisement that was created by the police to catch such offenders.
During the conversation, the undercover police officer told Khant repeatedly that she was a 15-year-old girl. Khant was not discouraged but he hinted that if he got along with the 15-year-old well, then he would see her quite often. Then he purchased 'girlfriend experience" for $140 which included both oral and vaginal intercourse.
When Khant reached the designated room, he was immediately arrested.
The judge also noted Khant's above-average IQ, his first-time offender status, his modest and reserved nature and also his agreeing to take therapy.
Canada's Aecon Group issued a statement distancing itself from accused Akashkumar and said he has not worked for Aecon dating back to before this particular incident took place.

Watch: Food Safety Team Busts Illegal Milk Mixing Operations In Agra
Food adulteration is an illegal practice where individuals involved in the production or sale of food intentionally compromise the quality of food items. This is often done to reduce production costs or to make the food products appear better than they really are. The substances used in adulteration can lower the nutritional value of food and pose health risks to consumers. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regularly conducts inspections and raids across the country to ensure that those involved in the production, packaging, transportation, or sale of food adhere to safety standards. Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (UPFSDA) uncovered illegal milk mixing operations in Agra. They confiscated suspected adulterated milk from a tanker. A video shared by the FSSAI on their official Instagram account on July 13, 2025, shows a large quantity of milk being dumped into a ditch directly from the tanker. View this post on Instagram A post shared by FSSAI (@fssai_safefood) Samples were collected, and the FSSAI shared that legal action will be taken based on the investigation results. This quick action reiterates FSSAI's commitment to ensuring safe food for all. Previously, on July 11, 2025, the UPFSDA conducted an intensive inspection of dhabas, hotels and restaurants in Muzaffarnagar. During this time, their food license, registration and Food Safety Connect app were installed, and everyone was made aware of food safety. In the pictures shared by the FSSAI on their Instagram handle, we can spot street food stalls selling chhole kulche, mango shake, kadhi chawal, bottled water, juice, and other popular Indian meals. 1,563 Indians deported by US since Jan 20
The US has deported a total of 1,563 Indian nationals since January and the latest batch was sent back last week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said most of the Indians were sent back on commercial flights. From January 20 to July 16, some 1563 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States, he said, adding most of these Indian nationals have come by commercial flights. The deportations take place only after the Indian nationality of the people are confirmed. The US authorities provide lists of people to be deported and the Indian side then confirms their nationality, he said. 'People have been coming in batches on commercial flights. Last week also, we had people who came back,' Jaiswal said. The deportation of more than 300 Indians in three US military flights earlier this year triggered a controversy as women and children too were handcuffed.
