Jyothika was first choice for Mohanlal's Thudarum before Shobana, says director
Talking about Shobana's reaction, Tharun said, 'That question kept lingering in my mind: Wouldn't Mohanlal and Shobana be the combination that Malayali viewers want to watch? We decided to contact Shobana, and she was also interested in coming back to movies. She said if the script and space were right, and if I made her feel comfortable, then she would do the film.'The resulting casting brings Mohanlal and Shobana back together after their last full-length collaboration in 'Mambazhakkalam' (2004). The duo also shared screen space in the iconic 'Manichitrathazhu' (1993), 'Minnaram' (1994), and 'Pavithram' (1994).advertisementContrary to speculation, 'Thudarum' is not a crime thriller. In an interview, Tharun clarified that it is a grounded family drama. The story is inspired by a real-life incident involving a man named Sunil. The film also stars Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, and Irshad Ali. It is written by KR Sunil, with music composed by Jakes Bejoy, and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Rejaputhra Release. 'Thudarum' is set to release in theatres on April 25.

Salman Khan, Mahesh Narayanan In Advanced Talks For 70s-Era Action Period Thriller: Report
Last Updated: Salman Khan may soon team up with Mahesh Narayanan for a 70s-set action thriller. The duo has had multiple meetings and talks are now in the final stages. Salman Khan, who is currently gearing up for his ambitious project Galwan with director Apoorva Lakhia, is already planning his next big move. As he preps for the Ladakh shoot scheduled later this month, the superstar is actively meeting filmmakers to lock in future projects and one of the most exciting names in the mix is Malayalam director Mahesh Narayanan. According to a report in Pinkvilla, Salman and Mahesh have already had around four to five meetings, with the latest one taking place just a week ago in Mumbai. The discussions are reportedly centered around a period action thriller, a genre Salman has rarely explored in his three-decade-long career. 'Salman Khan and Mahesh Narayanan have been jamming on multiple ideas, and Salman has given a go-ahead to the filmmaker on a period-thriller with action. The film in discussion will be set in the 1970s to 1990s, and Mahesh will now come back for a full-length narration," the source told Pinkvilla. The project is said to be very different from Salman's usual fare. 'Be it Galwan, or the Mahesh Narayanan directorial—Salman is looking to explore new genres now, that challenge him. There will be a 100 percent clarity on the Mahesh Narayanan film before the end of this year," the source added. In parallel, the actor is also in touch with his frequent collaborator Kabir Khan. 'The duo is jamming on multiple ideas, and have a definite intent to collaborate. The discussions are happening across genres—from stylish action thrillers to high-octane dramas, and of course, the much-anticipated Bajrangi Bhaijaan sequel," the insider revealed. What's piquing fans' curiosity is the unique tone and setting of Mahesh's proposed film. 'It's a character in a world that Salman has not explored before. The things look positive at the moment for this collaboration," the source concluded. If things go as planned, Salman will wrap up Galwan by November or December 2025, and Mahesh Narayanan is expected to finish his Malayalam commitments in parallel. The two could come together for this exciting new project in 2026. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Kathir Interview: I don't want audience to be prejudiced against my films
They say you can only do a thing for the first time once, and Kathir had his acting debut with Madha Yaanai Koottam in 2013. 12 years later, he is back to doing the same thing for the first time, again. Meesha, his maiden Malayalam film, hit screens on August 1, and the actor is a bundle of nerves. This might sound strange as we are talking about someone who has proved his acting credentials, courtesy of his performances in Pariyerum Perumal, Vikram Vedha, and Suzhal. Still, Kathir believes every film is a new chapter and every role a new opportunity to redefine himself. Excited and nervous about his Malayalam entry, Kathir calls it a chance to reinvent and experience the magic of a 'first time' all over again. Excerpts:
