Lack of big signings makes you wonder if Rodgers really IS driving the bus at Celtic any longer, writes Gary Keown
The league season is still the best part of three weeks away from starting. There's no need to panic. But for a while there earlier in the month, Brendan Rodgers gave the impression he was starting to go a little bit Maryan Shved. Remember him? Ukrainian bloke brought in from Karpaty Lviv back in January 2019 and seen about as often as the snow leopard.

Deganwy's Lily Copeland all set for European Championships!
Lily Copeland, 16, is the only North Wales player selected in the 18 strong Welsh squad, taking part in the Under 18 Euro Hockey Championships, being played in Scotland. The Rydal Penrhos School pupil will face Switzerland on Sunday (July 13) in her opening group game, before a tough match against home favourites Scotland on Tuesday (July 15). Her final match in Pool A will be against the Czech Republic on Wednesday (July 16) with the top two teams progressing to the knock-out stages. The teenager made her Wales Under 18 debut in the Canada Series in April. She made an instant impact being named Player of the Match and scoring two impressive goals. Since then, she has gone on to play against England Colleges (twice) and Scotland (twice) with six appearances to her name. She will win five more Welsh Caps during the nine-day competition in Glasgow. Tom Hutchinson, Principal at Rydal Penrhos School, said: "We are delighted and so very proud that Lily has been chosen to represent Wales in the Under 18 Euro Hockey Championship. "Everyone here at Rydal Penrhos sends their best wishes and we are excited to watch the next stages of Lily's hockey career. "Pwb Lwc Cymru!" Lily, who is originally from Rhuallt, made it into the Wales team in January this year following a gruelling year of trials which began at the start of 2024 She began playing hockey 10 years ago at school under the watchful eye of teacher Jude Pyves who she now plays alongside at Eirias Hockey Club, In Colwyn Bay. The Ladies first team have just completed a whole season without losing a match winning the League Title and Welsh Trophy in a stunning unbeaten season. In 2021, she was the youngest member of the North Wales Under 13s team at the UK Lions National Tournament in Nottingham in 2021 and went on to captain North Wales at the same competition a year later. Last year, Lily, whose birthday falls on St David's Day, was picked to represent the County (Eryri) to compete in the Hoci Cymru Under 15s County Championships. She was again handed the role of captain and led them all the way to the final in Swansea in February 2024. Off the back of her performance, Lily was selected to play for Wales in the prestigious School Games held at Loughborough University in July. The teenage star began her pathway to the Wales team in Wrexham at one of three Regional Performance Centres set up to identify potential talent for the Hoci Cymru National Age Grade Squad (NAGS). She nominated to attend trials in Cardiff where she spent seven weekends at training camps at the Welsh Institute of Sport, from September to January, as they slowly whittled an initial group of around 70 of the best young players in Wales, down to a final squad of 24. Lily made her debut in the first match of the Canada Series at National Hockey Centre, Cardiff, in April, having been selected in the matchday squad of 18. Her standout performance earned her selection to the European Championship squad as the sole North Wales representative. The other 17 girls play for clubs based in South Wales or are signed to clubs in England.

Wiegman backs England's passion ahead of crunch clash against Wales
Sarina Wiegman insists England can match Wales' passion in their crunch clash on Sunday night - but wants her side to focus on themselves. The Lionesses need a win from their final game in Group D to secure progression to the Euro 2025 quarter-finals. It means rivals Wales could send England home from the tournament with a positive result on Sunday, as they remain in search of their first major tournament win. But despite the fight that Wales will undoubtedly bring to St Gallen, Wiegman is confident England are just as enthused by the encounter despite not letting themselves get carried away with the narrative of rivalry. "For them, it is a big game but for us it is too. We want to win and get through the group stage. There is passion but we have passion too,' she said. 'We want to be really focused and good on the ball. We have to be patient. "I learned about the history and the rivalry but, again, we are focused on what we want to do and how we want to play. "We have to move the ball quickly and be patient. We have also seen that Wales are compact and sometimes higher up the pitch too. We expect everything and we will try to break that down." See you tomorrow for a big one, #Lionesses fans! 🏴🏴 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 12, 2025 It is the second time England will face a must-win scenario, having needed all three points against the Netherlands to avoid an early exit after losing their opening game 2-1 to France. While a draw would put them above the Oranje Leeuwinnen at present, they would need to bank on the Dutch failing to get a result against France for that to be sufficient to progress. But Wiegman is unphased by the pressure such a scenario adds to her players, who stepped up to win 4-0 at Stadion Letzigrund against the Dutch. "There is always pressure on England. We will try and play a good game and hopefully we can have the ball a lot and exploit spaces,' she explained. "The tension is building up again because we play tomorrow. It was a must-win [against the Netherlands]. 'The players are very together and are taking responsibility and then they have to perform again. That is what we are going to do tomorrow as well." Wales will hold very different ideas of what they will allow England to do at Kybunpark. Despite losing their opening game 3-0 to the Netherlands and looking completely overrun, they fought back to equalise against France in a gritty performance. At 1-0 down, Jess Fishlock turned home at the back post to spark celebrations in the red wall and write a piece of Welsh history befitting the legacy of the 38-year-old scorer. While they went on to lose 4-1, it is a fight they will undoubtedly show against England with a sense of last chance saloon for the Dragons. But Wiegman is determined not to let the game follow a course that will benefit Wales as she hopes England will prove dominant in possession. "I hope we will see a game where we have a lot of the ball and we play very well in possession, so we don't let it become a fighting game,' she said. "I am not worried [that it will be a scrappy game]. Wales are very compact, they can fight and they are really together but also they can play direct. 'We are trying to prevent that, and the best way is to be on top of things yourself and exploit the spaces. "We have our own preparation and we know what is on the line. We will do everything to win the game and get through.'
