From July 1: Aadhaar-PAN Rule, New Bank Charges, And Tax Deadline Extension Take Effect
From July 1, 2025, a series of important financial changes will be implemented, impacting individual taxpayers and customers of major Indian banks including SBI, HDFC, and ICICI.
Mandatory Aadhaar for PAN and ITR Deadline Extension
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced that Aadhaar verification will be mandatory for new PAN card applications from July 1. This move aims to enhance tax compliance and promote digital integration. Previously, a valid ID and birth certificate were sufficient to obtain a PAN.
In a welcome move for taxpayers, the CBDT has extended the income tax return filing deadline for Assessment Year 2025-26. The new deadline is September 15, offering an additional 46 days beyond the earlier July 31 cut-off. Experts recommend filing early to avoid last-minute issues.
Revised Credit Card and Banking Charges by SBI, HDFC, and ICICI
SBI Card will discontinue its complimentary air accident insurance from July 15 on select premium cards such as ELITE and PRIME. It will also revise how the Minimum Amount Due (MAD) is calculated on credit cards to include GST, EMIs, fees, and more.
HDFC Bank will impose a 1% fee on rent payments, wallet reloads over Rs 10,000, utility bills above Rs 50,000, and gaming spends above Rs 10,000. A cap of Rs 4,999 applies per transaction. Customers can now earn up to 10,000 reward points per month for insurance payments.
ICICI Bank is introducing changes in ATM charges, IMPS fees, and cash transaction limits. After a set number of free transactions, additional ATM use and branch cash handling will incur fees.

FPIs make net investment of over Rs 13,000 cr into Indian stocks this week
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 28 (ANI): Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) made a net investment of Rs 13,107.54 crore into Indian markets during the week of June 23 to June 27, according to data released by the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). The inflow reflects strong investor confidence in Indian equities. The data showed that FPIs made heavy investments in the Indian equity market, especially on Monday and Friday, indicating a positive shift in sentiment. With these fresh inflows, the total net investment by foreign investors in the month of June has now reached Rs 8,915 crore. This turnaround in foreign investor activity comes after geopolitical tensions between the US, Iran, and Israel eased in recent days. The easing of tensions has improved global market sentiment, encouraging foreign investors to look at emerging markets like India more positively. Additionally, strong domestic fundamentals are supporting this renewed interest. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently cut interest rates by 50 basis points in its latest Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, which is expected to boost economic growth. Moreover, inflation in the Indian economy remains at a low level, further strengthening investor confidence. The combination of global stability, policy support, and strong macroeconomic indicators has made India an attractive destination for foreign investment at this time. On the domestic front, important drivers will be macroeconomic indicators, institutional buying support, and sector-specific triggers such as monsoon progress, consumption trends, and infrastructure push. These elements are expected to determine stock specific movements and FPI behaviour in the short term. Earlier in May, the net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) inflows remained in positive and stood at Rs 19,860 crore, making May the best-performing month so far this year in terms of foreign investment. The previous months' data also showed that FPIs had sold stocks worth Rs 3,973 crore in March. In January and February, they had sold equities worth Rs 78,027 crore and Rs 34,574 crore, respectively. Govt building e-commerce export hubs to empower MSMEs
New Delhi: The government is laying the foundation for a next-generation export ecosystem -- one that is digital-first, logistics-enabled and MSME-inclusive, Moin Afaque, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), said on Saturday. Addressing the India SME Forum's 'MSME Day Conclave 2025' here on creating a robust ecosystem for MSME e-commerce exports, he said that upcoming e-commerce export hubs are inspired by global best practices and will function as single-window zones for logistics, certification and regulatory support. 'With five pilot hubs already approved and more in the pipeline, we aim to scale this model across the country,' he told the gathering. The event underscored the urgent need for digital transformation, enhanced export readiness, and robust trade facilitation to unlock the true potential of Indian small businesses on the world stage, while closing market access gaps for Indian MSMEs to scale globally. 'Global supply chains are shifting, and India is emerging as the trusted alternative. This opens a huge opportunity for MSMEs to go global, especially through e-commerce,' said Vinod Kumar, President, India SME Forum. 'Buyers are choosing Indian products even at 5–7 per cent higher prices because of the trust and reliability we offer. With over 45 countries easing market access, e-commerce exports are fast becoming a powerful growth engine. This is India's moment, and MSMEs are leading the way,' he noted. The highlight of the conclave was the National MSME Impact Awards 2025, that recognised exceptional work by state governments, financial institutions, and solution and service providers who have gone beyond conventional mandates to catalyse systemic change and build inclusive support frameworks for MSMEs. Winners included Bank of Baroda for Public Sector Bank and HDFC Bank for Private Sector Bank. Amazon won gold in the Best Exports Platform and Best E-Marketplace categories, while Microsoft led the Technology Providers category and Google led the Digital Solutions category. DHL topped the Logistics Solutions category and New India Assurance won the Best Insurance Provider award, according to India SME Forum.
