Pearly-Thinaah's BAM contract to be finalised before Japan Open
BAM President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz stated that both players agreed to this timeline during a recent engagement session.
Zafrul mentioned that only a few issues remain unresolved between BAM and the players before a final decision can be made.
'We are close to finalising it. Our discussion only has one or two issues left that I believe we can resolve, God willing.
'But the time given, I set it just now, and they also agreed that it should be settled before the Japan Open, and we will make an announcement,' he said during a press conference at the Badminton Academy of Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
Media reports had previously indicated that the pair had not renewed their contract with BAM, which expired last December.
Despite the uncertainty, Pearly-Thinaah have maintained strong form, clinching the Thailand Open title in May.
When questioned about potential salary adjustments, Zafrul acknowledged that compensation discussions are typical in negotiations.
'I think in any contract negotiation, there is always discussion. To me, what is fair is we need to value them accordingly, their contribution.
'And also what is important to me is that when we value someone or in this case the pair, we also need to put targets. So if they do better, we should pay them more,' he explained.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world No. 1 Datuk Rashid Sidek believes Malaysia must begin early preparations if they are to reclaim the Thomas Cup — a title the nation last won in 1992. Rashid, who played a key role in that historic triumph 33 years ago, is confident the current squad has the depth and balance to challenge for the crown at next year's tournament in Denmark. "If we're serious about winning back the Thomas Cup, this is the moment," said Rashid at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing on Wednesday for the upcoming film Sentuhan Wira, which will commemorate the 1992 victory. "Our team have more depth than in past editions. We now have two strong men's singles players in Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao, and the doubles pairs are showing consistency. If everyone maintains their level, our chances are bright." Malaysia famously edged Indonesia 3-2 in a dramatic final at Stadium Negara in 1992, with Rashid playing a pivotal role. "I can still clearly see (Cheah) Soon Kit and (Soo) Beng Kiang falling to the ground. That was when we knew we were champions," he recalled. Since then, China have dominated the tournament, lifting the trophy 11 times, including at the most recent edition in Chengdu last year, where they beat Indonesia 3-1 in the final.
