Fan scorecard: Unsung hero? Overriding emotion?

BBC News27-05-2025
Season rating: 1/10. I fail to think of anything positive to say about what is possibly the worst season since the Frank McLintock season of 1977-78.Happy with your manager? Is this a trick question? I would be happier with piles. After a few games when things started to pick up and look better, we had Ruud van Nistelrooy going back to his old drawing board against Bournemouth.Unsung hero: Luke Thomas. One-time target of the terrace boo boys and social media keyboard warriors. After torrid loans at Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, he stood up to the mark when given the chance. He does walk a bit lopsided - probably caused by still having Mohamed Salah in his pocket.Player you would most like to sign: I am going against almost everything I have been saying all season, but I would like to sign... JAMIE VARDY!Not his best season by any stretch of the imagination. Not since 2005-06 have we had a season with the top goalscorer having so low a number as 10. But we love his leadership, commitment and effort. Let's be honest, with the service Vardy got this season, Lionel Messi wouldn't have scored.Right now, my overriding emotion from the season is: Anger! Anger that this owner has let the club his family turned into champions, and set the example for the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford to follow, become a laughing stock. The big six, who said they must never let another Leicester happen again, must be celebrating our demise. Tough decisions have to be made at executive level, but can Kuhn Top make them?Do you agree with Chris' answers? Pick one or two categories and send your views

Colwills join Bluebirds' band of brothers

Cardiff City's winning start to life in League One not only laid down a marker – it was also a Bluebirds' win over Peterborough underlined that there will be a freshness about things at Cardiff City Stadium under new head coach Brian their first outing since relegation from the Championship, the 2-1 victory showcased a new playing style to go with their promotion also suggested the new man at the helm will place his faith in youth with the starting XI's average age at just 22, ten of the matchday squad academy graduates - and two from the same was the first time Rubin and Joel Colwill started a league game for Cardiff together – and the first time two brothers began a game for the Bluebirds in more than 40 they had previously appeared together for a few minutes off the bench in a defeat to Rotherham in 2024, as well as bench outings in EFL Cup games, you have to go back to 1983 and the presence of Gary and Dave Bennett (pictured below) for the last time siblings kicked off a league game for what could be seen as a good omen for supporters, that was in a season where the club gained promotion from the third tier having been relegated the season before. The first brothers to play for Cardiff were George and John who featured together between 1911 and 1915, with captain John the first Cardiff player to score in a south Wales in Wales defender Ron Stitfall's 453 appearances for the club were a handful of games with brother and fellow defender Albert, but goalkeeping brother Bob never made it onto the field at the same while Paul and David Giles racked up close to 150 games between them in the late-70s and 1980s, their times at their hometown club never the most iconic example is the period between 1963 and 1965 where Welsh football's legendary brothers – Mel and John Charles – were both pair, though, never managed to play for Wales together during their time at Ninian Park – something for nine-cap Rubin Colwill and Under-21 international Joel to aim for now they've set a club milestone as Bluebird brothers.

Liverpool 'name England international among two candidates on their centre back shortlist' - as Arne Slot looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of their title defence

Liverpool are reportedly intent on bringing in defensive cover this summer as they prepare to begin their Premier League title defence. On Monday Arne Slot 's side returned to Anfield for the first time since Diogo Jota 's death and played a pair of friendlies against LaLiga side Athletic Bilbao. Fielding two separate teams on the same day exposed the lack of depth in the heart of defence, with Andy Robertson and academy product Trey Nyoni deputising in the position for the first game. With Virgil van Dijk unavailable through illness and Joe Gomez still nursing an injury suffered during the club's pre-season tour Liverpool were forced to deploy Wataru Endo alongside their only available senior centre back in Ibrahima Konate. This, combined with Jarell Quansah's move to Bayer Leverkusen last month, highlighted the Reds' need for defensive reinforcements and the club are reportedly already hard at work identifying potential options. Mail Sport revealed earlier this summer that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is on the club's radar. The England international has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at Selhurst Park and reports suggest he would be keen on a move to Merseyside. Newcastle repeatedly pushed to sign Guehi last summer as a protracted saga unfolded surrounding his future before he ultimately remained at Palace. According to a report from The Times, the club are also keeping tabs on Parma's Giovanni Leoni. At just 18, Leoni already commands a starting place for the Serie A club and earned plaudits for his performances last season as the club managed to avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight. Meanwhile Conor Bradley is expected to miss Sunday's Community Shield against Crystal Palace through injury. Bradley did not feature in either of Monday's friendlies after suffering a knock in training and is now in a race to bit fit for the start of the Premier League season. Liverpool get their campaign underway next Friday as they welcome Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth to Anfield.
