Cisco Hit With Data Breach Caused By a Voice Phishing Attack
IT giant Cisco, which makes networking hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment, recently faced a major data breach, the company disclosed on Friday. A Cisco representative fell victim to a voice phishing or "vishing" attack, when a caller pretends to be a legitimate individual or organization, and tricked the employee over the phone to obtain the personal information of users. Related: 'Largest Data Breach in History': Apple, Google, and Meta Passwords Reportedly Among 16 Billion Stolen in Massive Hack The bad actor was able to access and export a subsection of profile information from Cisco's cloud customer management system. They stole data from individuals who had registered for a account, including customer names, organization names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. Cisco discovered the breach on July 24. The company stated that the data breach did not affect passwords or impact any of its products or services. It added that it notified affected customers where required by law and talked to data protection authorities. "We are implementing further security measures to mitigate the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future, including re-educating personnel on how to identify and protect against potential vishing attacks," Cisco stated in the disclosure. Cisco declined to provide details of the breach to TechCrunch, including how many users were impacted by it. The company has more than 300,000 global customers. Cisco had a market value of $268 billion at the time of writing, with its stock up over 14% year-to-date. Related: AT&T Customers Are Eligible for Up to $5,000 in a New Settlement. Here's What to Know. Cisco uses Salesforce to manage customer relationship data, and this incident was one in a series of recent attacks that impacted Salesforce customers. For example, U.S. insurance company Allianz Life uncovered a data breach last month that exposed the personally identifiable information of the majority of its 1.4 million customers, including addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Two of the company's customers, Cheryl Marotta and David Werner, filed a class action lawsuit on Tuesday related to the breach, alleging that Allianz failed to safeguard their personal information because the data was unencrypted and stored in one database. Another company, Australian airline giant Qantas, also underwent a data breach on June 30, which impacted the personal information of more than six million customers. The bad actor called one of the company's call centers and used the call to steal information like names, phone numbers, and dates of birth.

Snap records slowest revenue growth in over a year amid tough competition for ads
(Reuters) -Snap on Tuesday reported second-quarter revenue growth that was the slowest in more than a year, a sign of growing competition from bigger social media rivals including Meta. Shares of the Snapchat parent slumped 15% after the bell following the results. The company's results came after stellar performances by rivals, including Instagram and Facebook parent Meta Platforms and Reddit. The Snapchat-parent's second-quarter revenue rose 8.1% to $1.34 billion, largely inline with estimates. The quarterly revenue was hit by changes to its ad platform, the timing of Ramadan and the termination of de minimis exemption or a duty-free import loophole in the U.S. The company said it had reverted the ad platform change that unintentionally allowed some ads run at much lower prices, hurting revenue growth in the reported quarter. Snap said its expanded roll-out of the new ad format — Sponsored Snaps, video ads that appear in user inboxes — across the U.S. and several other global regions is helping by driving more user actions and deeper engagement with ad content. Small and medium-sized businesses were the largest contributors to ad revenue growth and its subscription service Snapchat+ remained a key driver for diversifying revenue beyond advertising. Snapchat+ subscribers rose 42% to nearly 16 million for the quarter ended June 30. Daily active users rose 9% to 469 million, compared with estimates of 467.9 million. The company forecast third-quarter revenue between $1.48 billion and $1.51 billion, compared with analysts' average estimate of $1.48 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. It expects quarterly adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization to be between $110 million and $135 million, above estimates of $111.9 million. For the second quarter, the company's net loss widened to $263 million from $249 million a year ago. AMD posts mixed Q2 results but offers better than expected Q3 outlook on AI sales
AMD (AMD) reported its second quarter results after the bell on Tuesday, missing on adjusted earnings per share (EPS), but beating analysts expectations on revenue. The company also provided better than anticipated Q3 guidance of between $8.4 billion and $9 billion. Wall Street was expecting $8.3 billion. The announcement comes ahead of rival and market leader Nvidia's (NVDA) own earnings report later this month. AMD stock was flat following the news. The company's shares are up 44% year to date and 29% over the last 12 months, while Nvidia shares are up 32% and 77%, respectively. For the quarter, AMD saw adj. EPS of $0.48 on revenue of $7.6 billion. Wall Street was expecting EPS of $0.49 on revenue of $7.4 billion, according to Bloomberg consensus estimates. AMD says it saw an $800 million impact from the Trump administration's ban on the sale of the company's MI308 AI chips to China. Nvidia took a $4.5 billion write-down from the ban in Q1 and said it expects a larger $8 billion hit in its second fiscal quarter. Trump reversed course on the ban last month, which should help make up for some of those losses in the coming quarters. AMD should also benefit from the launch of its MI350 line of AI chips, designed to go toe-to-toe with Nvidia's Blackwell-powered chips. According to AMD, the MI350 line, which includes the MI350X and MI355X, offers four times the AI compute performance and a 35x increase in inferencing capabilities versus its predecessors. AMD's Data Center segment revenue topped out at $3.2 billion, meeting Wall street expectations. The company saw $2.8 billion in the segment last year. Beyond the Data Center segment, AMD's Client business, which includes sales of CPUs for desktops and laptops, generated $3.6 billion in revenue versus an anticipated $2.5 billion.
