I'm a sleep writer with back pain — these are the 3 mattresses I'd buy in the Memorial Day sales
As a sleep writer with back pain, I know the difference a good mattress can make. My personal top pick? The Saatva Classic — a luxury innerspring hybrid with enhanced lumbar support. Our exclusive code means you can save $400 on all sizes at Saatva, taking a queen down to $1,699 (MSRP $2,099).
The Saatva Classic is our top pick in this year's best mattress roundup and an excellent choice if you suffer from back pain, but it's not the only mattress I'd recommend in that regard. But everyone's different and has different sleep needs to accommodate, so I've also included two other fantastic mattresses for lumbar support.
Many Memorial Day mattress sales are already live ahead of the weekend's sales, so if you're in the market for a new mattress to help ease away back pain, now is the perfect time to buy. Here's are the the three mattresses I recommend if you need to ease back pain.
1. Saatva Classic Mattress: twin $1,399 now $999 at Saatva With three firmness options to choose from, the Saatva Classic really is a bed to suit all sleepers. It's the best hybrid mattress you can buy, scoring near perfect marks in our Saatva Classic mattress review. But where it excels for sleepers with back pain is in its addition of a lumbar crown that instantly offers exceptional support where it's needed, soothing away aches and pains. There are regular Saatva mattress sales throughout the year, but our exclusive code will take $400 off all sizes in the Saatva Memorial Day mattress sales, taking a queen down to $1,699. You'll also get a 365-night trial, free white glove delivery and old mattress removal and a lifetime warranty.

2. Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid Mattress: twin $932 now $652.40 at Brooklyn Bedding In our Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid review, our testers praised the bed for its zoned lumbar support, which helped to ease away back pain. A luxurious pillow top offers fantastic pressure relief and cushioning, plus the GlacioTex cooling cover and copper-infused foam make this an excellent choice for hot sleepers. If you're on a tighter budget, the 30% off the Memorial Day Brooklyn Bedding mattress sale is worth taking advantage of. A queen hybrid CopperFlex Pro is reduced to $932.40 (MSRP $1,332) but there is also a cheaper all-foam version coming in at $745.50 (MSRP $1,065). You'll also get a 120-night trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping.
Our review: ★★★★½User score: ★★★★½ (530+ reviews)
3. Nolah Evolution Mattress: twin $1,460 now $949 at Nolah If you have lower back pain, the Nolah Evolution should be top of your wish list. In our Nolah Evolution mattress review our testers were impressed by its superior back support, rating the bed particularly highly for those who sleep on their backs, and it's rated in our best mattress for back pain guide as the top option for lower back pain. The Nolah Evolution, like the Saatva Classic, is available in three firmness options so that you can pick the one best suited to your sleeping style. Nolah's mattress sale for Memorial Day takes 35% off MSRP, taking a queen size down to $1,383 from $2,127, with free pillows included. You'll also get a 120-night trial, free shipping and a lifetime warranty.

Here's the Biggest Benefit of Buying a Mattress Online
There are obvious trade-offs to buying a mattress in-store and online. But your decision may come down to key details of a brand's warranty. All products featured on WIRED are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. You can buy pretty much anything online these days, even mattresses. But mattress stores still exist, and there are reasons to prefer in-person shopping for a product you'll spend roughly a third of your life on. The reasons to shop either online or in person are mostly obvious. What you might not have considered, however, are the fine-print details on warranty coverage that may skew you one way or the other. Saatva is a brand that sells both online and in its viewing rooms across the country, so I asked Michael Gale, a VP who leads retail at Saatva, to shed some light on the pros (and cons) of both mattress-buying approaches. Adding to Cart For my fellow homebodies, online mattress shopping is very appealing. When my social battery is out, it's gone, and I'll take any opportunity to not deal with salespeople. Plus, there's no need to leave my house and battle traffic or find a parking spot. With the advent of roller-packed bed-in-a-box mattresses that can be delivered to your house by FedEx and unfurled in your bedroom, you don't even have to schedule delivery or clean up your living room. In addition to avoiding the pressure or a salesperson, there are a lot of additional benefits to buying online. You can often find a better deal because you're not underwriting retail space or paying a salesperson's salary. Additionally, most online sellers include a guaranteed sleep trial, and depending on the brand, extras like white glove delivery or free pillows with purchase. Some our our favorite mattress brands are only available online. Probably because shoppers are generally leery of making a major financial commitment to a product they haven't personally touched, almost all online mattress sellers offer a sleep trial period and warranty. 'Sleep trial' periods refer to the amount of time you can sleep on it and determine if it's a good fit for you. Most sellers give you between 90 days and a year to decide the purchase wasn't right for you and get a refund. But here's where the fine print starts to kick in. Many brands will not let you initiate a return until 30 nights have passed. The reasoning is that this 'break-in' period gives you enough time to get used to the feeling of your new bed. There are also limitations to how many returns you can do with a brand. Let's say the bed doesn't work out, and you opt to return and get a refund or replacement. You can usually only go that route once, as the company isn't going to let you trial-and-error its full repertoire of beds. Next comes warranty coverage, or in the case of a faulty mattress, the kind of repair, refund, or replacement you're entitled to as part of the original purchase. Mattresses are going to break down over time and with use. But let's say you spot something going awry pretty quick off the bat, like memory foam weirdly sagging in some spots or cracking. This would fall under 'material defect' and should be covered under warranty. For stains, cracking, sagging, dents, or anything of that nature that happen over time, you're probably out of luck, as this is very much in the early-on sort of scenario. Similarly, let's say that the stitching of the cover comes undone or it's clear that the bed wasn't put together the way it should've been, as it's falling apart. This would be considered a 'manufacturing defect' and also should be covered. Here's one very important piece of information to keep in mind if you find yourself dealing with one of these two categories: Be ready to prove it. Outlined in the fine print, and depending on the brand, you may notice that customer service mentions that images showing defects on the mattress will be needed. Some may go so far as to confirm what kind of bed frame or base you have been using, because warranty coverage does not apply if the mattress slats are spaced too widely apart. Always use your mattress properly. If there are signs you were using it as your own personal trampoline park, the warranty is most likely void. Pinpointing the Deals Buying in person has its perks, too, and can't be written off completely. The biggest one? Some folks just prefer to lay eyes (and of course, their physical selves) on a bed before buying. That is totally understandable. You may also have the opportunity to negotiate your final price, and it'll likely go home with you that very day instead of taking a few days or even a week. Some companies will also offer sleep trials, like Mattress Firm. If you're going to shop in person, it's very important to consider the reputation of the company behind the brick-and-mortar location. Plenty of online mattress brands, like Saatva and Casper, have their own storefront locations scattered across the contiguous United States. The beauty of having both an online and physical presence is that the deals can be lateral. Saatva offers the same discounts online, in stores, and over the phone, so every customer gets the same price, says Gale. And there are often added discounts worth paying attention to: 'At Saatva, for example, we offer special discounts to military veterans, teachers, health care workers, and other groups. You might want to ask whether you can get a bundled discount based on the products you're interested in, like a mattress and base combo or a mattress and bedding bundle.' You can also shop at opportune times, and Gale suggests key holidays like the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Black Friday. Throw It in the Actual Cart On the other hand, there are some brands that will put their merchandise in third-party storefronts. If you choose to go down the third-party route, make sure it is, in fact, partnered with the brand. Gale warns that unauthorized stores may sell mattresses with limited or no warranty coverage, which increases your risk if something goes wrong. This doesn't always mean that you are covered under the brand's warranty policy if you purchased from a partner store. Instead, you might have to rectify any issues like defects with the store itself. But sometimes, you are good to go. 'Verified vendors also typically provide stronger customer support, more flexible return policies, and added transparency—sometimes even enhancing the manufacturer's warranty,' he says. To figure out which of these will be the case for you, read the mattress warranty and policy information thoroughly . Fine Print Reminder So if you take away nothing else from this, always, always read the fine print of a mattress warranty. It'll help you create a checklist of items to look for regarding the purchasing process. While this is additional work on top of figuring out the particular mattress you're homing in on, it really aims to provide you with peace of mind. But if you're looking for a helping hand, not to worry. Our team regularly tests out new beds—we spend at least a week sleeping on any mattress before recommending it—to scope out what's worth the coin. The mattress that helped me sleep cool during a heatwave is up to $480 off in 4th of July sales
Summer is finally here following a hot spring and I can honestly say that, thanks to the Brooklyn Bedding Copperflex Pro Hybrid, I've been sleeping brilliantly regardless of the increasing temperatures. If you're looking for a good deal on a cool bed then the Copperflex Pro Hybrid at up to $480 off at Brooklyn Bedding is worth a look. The best mattresses you can buy online this year are all excellent at regulating temperature and the Copperflex Pro Hybrid is no exception. This 30% discount with the code JULY30 reduces the cost of a queen to $932.40, which is a return to the cheapest price I've seen it sell for in the last year. Let's take a closer look at the deal now and see how it compares to this month's top mattress sales... Brooklyn Bedding Copperflex Pro Hybrid: twin from $932 now $652.40 at Brooklyn BeddingI rate the 14" Copperflex Pro Hybrid as the best cooling mattress under $1,000 for a queen. It's built with heat conducting copper-infused foams and a GlacioTex cover cover that wicks away heat. Individually encased coils deeper in the mattress allow air to circulate freely, cooling down the bed. As for comfort, there's a pillow top for ample pressure relief and three zoned lumbar support. I'm a combi sleeper who likes to switch positions through the night and have felt comfortable on my side, front and back when sleeping on this mattress. This new Brooklyn Bedding mattress sale reduces a queen to $932.40 (was $1,332), which is great value for a top-rated hybrid mattress (we awarded it a 4.5/5 score in our Brooklyn Bedding Copperflex Pro Hybrid mattress review). We usually see 25% off this bed, with the current 30% saving appearing only around major sales. A lifetime warranty, free shipping and 120-night trial are also included. Our review: ★★★★½ GhostBed Luxe: twin from $1,349 now $1,079.20 at GhostBedThe 14" GhostBed Luxe is a great luxury cooling mattress. It's packed with patented cooling tech like GhostBed's Ghost Ice quilted cover and a layer of Ghost Ice, designed to absorb and dissipate body heat. Despite its luxury price tag, you can usually find money off in regular GhostBed mattress sales. But this 4th July you can score an extra 20% off its usual sale price, with a queen reduced to $1,199.20 (usually on sale for $1,499) – that's fantastic value for a super comfy mattress in a box. You'll also get free shipping, a 101-night trial, and a limited 25 year warranty. Our review: ★★★★User score: ★★★★★ (4.8/5 based on 2,200+ reviews)

'America's comfiest mattress for nearly all sleepers' is now $400 off ahead of the 4th of July sales
The Saatva Classic is our top pick for most sleepers wanting to upgrade their sleep comfort, and as of today the Classic is $400 off at Saatva thanks to our VIP discount. This deal saves you up to $200 more on the Classic compared to what you'll save in the general public Saatva sale, with a queen priced $1,699 (was $2,099). Just use our link above to see this new lower price. Claire Davies, our Managing Editor of Sleep who spent seven months sleeping on the Saatva Classic, says it revolutionized her sleep, and we rate it as the best mattress of 2025 overall. $1,699 for a queen is the price we see it sell for during most holiday sales – it was $4 cheaper at $1,695 during Presidents' Day, but we don't expect the Classic to fall any lower for the 4th July sales. Below we take a closer look at this deal, but if you have a smaller budget our guide to this month's best mattress sales has good options for less. Saatva Classic twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva"America's comfiest mattress for nearly all sleepers" is how our Senior Sleep Editor Claire described Saatva's flagship model in our Saatva Classic mattress review. We awarded it full marks, labelling it the best hybrid mattress you can buy. This luxury innerspring comes in three feels and two heights, making it one of the most versatile beds on the market, with integrated spinal support to alleviate back pain (Claire found "relief from hip and lower back pain" when sleeping on it). Our VIP discount will save you up to $200 more on the Classic compared to what you'd save in this month's Saatva mattress sale. A queen costs $1,699 (was $2,099), matching the cheapest prices of every major holiday except Presidents' Day (where it was only $4 cheaper). The mattress has excellent benefits too: a year's trial, lifetime warranty, and free installation plus old mattress and frame removal. Our review: ★★★★★ User score: ★★★★★ (4,000+ reviews) After a seven month testing period the Saatva Classic mattress earned a rare full marks from our expert team — everyone from our lightweight side sleeper to our dedicated stomach sleeper had something to praise the Classic for. The Saatva Classic is the best luxury mattress we've tested and uses a dense pillow top combined with a dual spring base to deliver comfort akin to the types of mattresses used in hotels. A five star sleep experience, the breathable Classic remains a neutral temperature overnight, making it a good choice for hot weather. And while the feel is bouncy (similar to a traditional innerspring) our lead tester shares a bed with her husband and sometimes her toddler and was impressed with the motion isolation of the Classic. Combined with the crowd pleasing feel, we feel it's a good mattress for couples. We see Saatva sales throughout the year but $400 off when you spend $1,000 tends to be reserved for special occasions — this is an unusually good 4th of July sale from the brand. And with mattress tariffs likely to increase the MSRP over summer, this could be the cheapest price we see for months. DreamCloud Classic: twin $399 at DreamCloudDreamCloud's flagship hybrid is our top-rated mattress in a box for all sleepers, delivering comfort and support beyond its affordable price tag. Only $699 for a queen in the year-round DreamCloud mattress sale, our DreamCloud mattress review team found it most comfortable for back sleeping but we think this is a bed that will suit the majority of sleep styles (although side sleepers might need to break it in.) It's not as all-round impressive as the Saatva above but if you don't have the budget for a luxury bed, this is an excellent alternative. Plus, it comes with a year's trial and lifetime warranty.
