Yoga practice should not end with month-long campaign, Collector tells people
The month-long 'Yogandhra' campaign, which began on May 21 and culminated with the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on Saturday, was launched to encourage the public to incorporate yoga in their daily lives, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.
Speaking at the Yoga Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada, the Collector said that while thousands of people participated every day in the programme in the district, the practice should not end with the campaign. 'The month-long celebration should only be a beginning for the public, not the end,' he added.
According to the district officials, around 5,000 people participated in the programme. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G. Jayalakshmi, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya and others were also present.
In the past month, the administration organised yoga programmes in the city streets, tourist destinations, historical sites and also on the Krishna river, the Collector said. Around 8,50,000 people in 5,454 places within the limits of 605 village/ward secretariats took part in the yoga programmes, the Collector added.
Yoga is a gift that nature has bestowed upon us to remain mentally and physically fit, the Collector said, while listing out the benefits of practising it every day.
Later, he congratulated the members of Yoga Association on their role in the Floating Yoga programme held recently. The programme had received wide admiration. On Saturday, around 200 people performed yoga in the Krishna river in an event organised by the Aqua Devils Swimming Association.
In Krishna district, the programme was organised on the premises of Sri Viswasanthi Educational Institutions in Vuyyuru. Along with District Collector D.K. Balaji, Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry, APSRTC Chairman K. Narayana Rao, and Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Gangadhar Rao also took part.
A green carpet was laid on the ground for the students and officials to perform yoga. Later, breakfast was arranged for those who took part in the programme. Medical camps were also set up. Cultural programmes and an award ceremony followed, where yoga instructors and students were felicitated.

Wildlife Institute of India moves to stall pay of those who skipped yoga event, later backs off
DEHRADUN: The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Monday issued an internal communication warning staff of possible salary deductions for failing to attend the International Yoga Day event on June 21 without prior notice - but later retracted the directive. The notice, citing "poor attendance" despite repeated reminders, said employees and researchers who skipped the Yoga Day event without approved leave would need to submit a written explanation to their reporting managers or risk having their June salaries withheld. However, within hours, the notice was withdrawn. TOI accessed the email, titled "Explanation for Absence on International Yoga Day Celebrations 2025," which read: "Please note that while WII ensures the timely disbursement of monthly salaries/emoluments to over 600 employees (including researchers), about 75 individuals participated in this important national event. In view of the above, all those who were absent on the International Day of Yoga without prior intimation are required to submit a written explanation for their absence. .. The finance officer is requested to withhold the release of the June 2025 salary until the attendance record, tour details, or valid written explanation is received and verified." WII Director Virendra Tiwari later told TOI, "No such action is being planned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? According to researchers at the institute, many staff members skipped the event, knowing that International Day of Yoga was not a mandatory observance under the ministry of environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC). WII, however, had marked the event - with activities like yoga sessions, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and refreshments - as compulsory. The Dehradun-based WII, an autonomous body under MoEF&CC, has been organising Yoga Day events annually.

WII issues, then withdraws order to withhold salaries of staff who skipped Yoga Day event
New Delhi, Citing poor attendance at the International Yoga Day event on June 21, the Wildlife Institute of India issued a warning on Monday, saying this month's salaries of the employees who skipped the programme without prior intimation would be withheld, but withdrew the order within hours. WII issues, then withdraws order to withhold salaries of staff who skipped Yoga Day event WII Director Virendra Tiwari, however, told PTI that the administration had sent a routine e-mail to the staff. "No such action is proposed," he said. In an internal e-mail, the administration of the Dehradun-based institute expressed concern over the "poor attendance" at the June 21 event, despite repeated notices issued by the WII and communications from the environment ministry. "Please note that while the WII ensures the timely disbursement of monthly salaries/emoluments to over 600 employees , about 75 individuals participated in this important national event," read the e-mail sent to all employees on Monday. "All those who were absent on the International Yoga Day without prior intimation are required to submit a written explanation for their absence," it said. The administration directed the permanent and contractual staff to submit the explanations to their reporting officer or the deputy registrar. According to the communication, the finance officer has been asked to "withhold the release of June 2025 salary" until the attendance record, tour details or valid written explanations are received and verified. Later, in another e-mail sent around 1:55 pm, the administration informed the staff that the communication was withdrawn. A WII employee told PTI that the administration had not made it mandatory for everyone to attend the Yoga Day event and this was the first time such a direction was issued, which has "shocked" everyone. "This was a bit too much," the employee said, confirming that they have received another e-mail withdrawing the earlier communication. The International Day of Yoga, celebrated on June 21 every year, is promoted by the government as a nationwide wellness initiative. While central government employees are routinely encouraged to join the celebrations, the participation usually remains voluntary.
