Gautam Adani to give tough competition to Mukesh Ambani in..., plans to dominate....
Adani vs Ambani: Billionaire businessman Gautam Adani is fully geared up to give tough competition to one of the richest men in the world, Mukesh Ambani, in a sector dominated by Reliance Industries. The Adani Group is going to set up a PVC plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per year in Gujarat's Mundra. With this, the conglomerate will enter the petrochemical sector. Notably, RIL is the largest company in the petrochemical sector so far. Adani Vs Ambani: Why The Petrochemical Sector?
The Adani Group has chosen the petrochemical sector and decided to set up a PVC plant because of its growing demand. PVC also known as polyvinyl chloride is a synthetic plastic polymer. It is used to make several products such as pipes, door frames, vinyl flooring and wall coverings, credit cards, toys, etc.
The sector is booming as the country's annual PVC demand is about 4 million tonnes, while domestic production capacity is 1.59 million tonnes. Half of the domestic capacity is dominated by Reliance Industries.
It is expected that the demand for PVC will grow by 8-10 percent annually. Adani Vs Ambani: What Will Be The Production Capacity Of Adani Group's PVC Plant?
The Adani Group is going to build a petrochemical plant in Mundra, as confirmed by two sources familiar with the development. The capacity of the PVC plant will be 1 million tonnes per annum. It is expected that the plant will be operational by the financial year 2027-28. The plant is expected to manufacture PVC, chlor-alkali, calcium carbide and acetylene units.
Adani Group plans to begin producing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) using an acetylene and carbide-based process. The necessary environmental permits and project approvals have been obtained. This initiative is expected to alleviate India's PVC shortage and decrease reliance on imports. Adani Vs Ambani: Who Is The Largest Pvc Producer In India?
The Reliance Industries is currently the largest PVC producer in India with an estimated PVC capacity of around 7,50,000 tonnes per annum. The company's has PVC plants in Hazira, Dahej and Vadodara. It is also planning to double its capacity by 2027. Adani Vs Ambani: War Of The Titans
The Adani Group and Reliance Industries have historically focused on different business sectors and never crossed each other's path. But first clean energy and now petrochemicals will be the areas where these two titans will lock horns with each other. As per sources, the capacity of Adani's PVC plant can be increased to 20 lakh tonnes per year in the coming years depending on the demands.
After a suspension in March 2023 caused by financial concerns and accusations from the Hindenburg Research report, the Adani Group's project restarted in 2023. The group at the same time secured over USD5 billion in equity and debt financing.

Adani buys out Ambani's power plant at Butibori
Nagpur: Adani Power has finally taken over Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group's power plant at Butibori for Rs4,000 crore. The acquisition was formally completed on Tuesday. Originally built for captive supply of cheap power to industries in Butibori and nearby areas, the power plant ended up catering to Mumbai before it ran into trouble. Reliance company, Vidarbha Industries Power Limited (VIPL), had set up a 600MW (2 units of 300 MW) capacity generation plant at Butibori over a decade ago. The plans for a group captive power plant (GCPP) for local industries did not take off, and later the status was changed to an independent power plant (IPP) and it began supplying to Mumbai. The buyout surpasses Adani's power generation capacity in the region to that of Koradi and Khaparkheda power stations of state-owned Mahagenco. Adani Group already operates a 3,300 MW power plant at Tiroda in Gondia. With the VIPL takeover, its capacity stands at 3,900 MW in Vidarbha. VIPL was undergoing a corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). On June 18 this year, the Bombay bench of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved Adani Power's resolution plan. Subsequently, the plan was successfully implemented on July 7, said a note shared by Adani Group. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Glicemia acima de 100? Ele usou isso Saúde Nacional Undo When the plant was operational, Reliance Group had secured power distribution rights for part of Mumbai and electricity generated at Nagpur's VIPL plant went to the state capital. Eventually, Adani Group took over distribution rights and did not continue the power purchase agreement (PPA) with VIPL after its tenure ended. Industrialists in the Butibori Manufacturers Association (BMA) recall the day the foundation was laid. "There were frequent interactions with the company's officials for local units joining the GCPP. However, plans did not take off despite big hopes," says Puneet Mahajan from BMA. Sources said overall troubles in the group also impacted VIPL operations as coal supplies through an assured linkage were also a bottleneck. Meanwhile, sources in Adani Group said further plans on supply of power generated from the VIPL plant are yet to be drawn. Nitin Lonkar, former BMA secretary, said local industrialists hope that the takeover by Adani Group may revive the plans.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, took fourth place with a valuation of USD 227 million. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) rounded out the top five, valued at USD 154 million. One of the biggest movers in 2025 was Punjab Kings (PBKS), which saw the highest year-on-year growth in valuation at 39.6%. The team, led by new captain Shreyas Iyer, reached the final and now holds a brand value of USD 141 million, placing them ninth overall. PBKS CEO Satish Menon attributed the growth to a strategic shift in business philosophy. 'We view ourselves not just as a cricket team, but as a sports-media brand with diversified revenue streams,' he said. Houlihan Lokey's Director of Financial and Valuation Advisory, Harsh Talikoti, pointed out the growing strength of IPL's commercial model. He emphasized that robust media rights deals, diversified brand sponsorships, and franchise business innovation have driven this rise in valuation. Additionally, the Tata Group extended its title sponsorship of the IPL through 2028 with a landmark USD 300 million deal. Meanwhile, associate sponsorships with My11Circle, Angel One, RuPay, and CEAT saw a 25% jump, collectively reaching Rs 1,485 crore.
