Oman welcomes Khareef Dhofar 2025 with a rich array of events
Triggered by seasonal monsoon winds and clouds arriving from the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, the season will continue until September 20.
The Dhofar Municipality has officially announced the launch of Khareef Dhofar 2025 from June 21 to September 20, with renewed programmes designed to offer innovative experiences that meet visitor expectations and enhance Dhofar's status as a global tourism destination.
The season includes cultural, recreational, and tourism activities for all age groups, with a strong emphasis on Omani identity and heritage to create an authentic atmosphere.
His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, affirmed that the Governorate welcomes the monsoon every year on June 21 with divine beauty and unique weather conditions, stating: "We all unite to prepare the conditions, events, and facilities necessary to make Khareef Dhofar 2025 exceptional and successful across 90 days of joy and natural splendor."
He warmly welcomed all visitors and wished them a pleasant stay amid the region's natural charm and unique appeal.
'Esh Jabak?'
As part of a new promotional approach, the Office of the Governor of Dhofar has launched the campaign 'Esh Jabak?' an Arabic phrase meaning 'What brought you here?' This campaign emerges from a deeper understanding of visitor behaviour, market trends, and the global move toward meaningful, personal experiences.
'Esh Jabak?' celebrates the diverse reasons that make Dhofar a multi-faceted destination — each visit sparked by a different story. The campaign highlights Dhofar's timeless natural beauty, adventure opportunities in caves and mountains, the warmth and generosity of its people, a vibrant calendar of events, and the luxury offered by local resorts and hotels.
Rather than simply promoting the physical attractions, the campaign focuses on the emotional journey uncovering the motivations behind each traveler's decision to visit. It invites visitors to share their stories and passions, transforming Dhofar from a seasonal escape to a destination of connection, discovery, and meaningful personal impact.
Khareef Dhofar 2025 events
This year's season offers a refreshed vision that boosts Dhofar's touristic and cultural standing. Events are distributed across five main thematic zones that reflect the governorate's diverse environments:
• Ateen Square: Home to dazzling fireworks, drone shows, carnival parades, and fantasy-themed performances.
• Al-Saada (Return to the Past): Showcases traditional folk events and cultural heritage.
• Awqad Park (Kids Time): A favorite destination for children, with exciting carnival shows and exploration zones.
• Ateen Plain Promenade: A modern mixed-use venue for adults and children offering entertainment and sports.
• Salalah Park (Health Garden): Offers unique fitness experiences in lush green surroundings.
Each site has been developed with a distinct identity and professional standards in collaboration with supporting institutions to ensure a rich and unique visitor experience.

Events will also extend to towns like Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah, as well as the historical site of Sumhuram and Al-Haffa Beach Market.

Dhofar Municipality has intensified efforts in cleaning and maintaining parks and roads, increasing cleaning teams, and providing waste containers and public facilities at tourist sites. Upgrades have been made to sites like Darbat Waterfalls, Ain Razat, Sumhuram, and the Highlands — including parking, rest areas, and infrastructure improvements.
Safety protocols have been coordinated with security and health authorities to ensure visitor well-being, including mobile toilets, first aid points, and other precautionary measures.
A unique climatic and tourism phenomenon
Khareef in Dhofar is a rare weather and tourism phenomenon in the region. The governorate experiences cloudy, rainy weather and moderate temperatures — especially in high-altitude areas often blanketed in mist.
The mountains and plains turn vibrant green due to continuous drizzle and light rains, nourishing plants and natural grazing lands.
Water flows abundantly from famous springs such as Razat, Hamran, Jarziz, Sahalnoot, and Tabraq, and dramatic waterfalls emerge — particularly in August in Darbat, Athoum, Khor, Jojob, and Hawta in Rakhyut, drawing large crowds.
Natural and historical identity
Dhofar boasts varied topography — coastal, agricultural, mountainous, and desert and a rich historical and archaeological heritage. It includes UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Al-Baleed and Sumhuram Archaeological Parks, The Land of Frankincense Museum, and historic forts in Rakhyut, Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah.
The Salalah Plain is known for its tropical produce like coconuts, bananas, papayas, and sugarcane, and the region is home to many creeks, protected natural reserves, and abundant marine and wildlife.
In 2024, the Khareef Dhofar season welcomed over one million visitors, marking a 9% increase from 2023a testament to Dhofar's growing appeal.

Bousher Bikers explore Pakistan's rugged north in 2,500km ride
Muscat – Inspired by renowned Pakistani motorcycle adventurer Muhammad Iqbal Ghangla and lured by the dramatic landscapes of northern Pakistan, nine members – seven Omanis and two Pakistanis – of Bousher Bikers recently completed a 12-day ride through the country, covering 2,500km of varied terrain. From the bustling streets of Rawalpindi to the stark grandeur of the Pakistan-China border, the group traversed mountains, valleys, deserts and rural backroads. Their experience, marked by both the thrill of adventure and the warmth of local hospitality, was shared at a reception hosted by H E Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari, Pakistan's Ambassador to Oman, in Muscat on Tuesday. 'Pakistan, particularly the northern region, offers some of the most stunning mountain and countryside scenery anywhere in the world,' said H E Bokhari. 'This journey highlights the potential for deeper tourism ties between Oman and Pakistan, as visitors experience not just nature but also the country's welcoming spirit.' Led by Issa al Hassni, the team rode daily from 9am to evening, averaging 300km a day. Their route wound through remote villages and across high-altitude passes before culminating at the border with China. The team opted to hire motorcycles in Pakistan ranging from 150cc to 750cc for the trip. Accompanied by an ambulance and a government convoy throughout, the bikers reported no issues with food, security or logistics. Hassni informed that this was the group's first venture beyond the GCC. 'What stayed with us the most wasn't just the scenery, but the people's warmth,' he said. 'In many places, locals treated us like family – some even refused payment because we were guests. The kindness of the people, the police and the military left a deep impression.' The journey was born out of an encounter with Ghangla during his visit to Oman. That meeting sparked the idea for the ride, and as part of the 54th anniversary of Oman-Pakistan diplomatic relations, the Pakistan Embassy in Muscat helped coordinate arrangements, finalising plans within just 28 days. Founded in 2016, Bousher Bikers has 40 members from several countries and regularly organises long-distance rides. Al Jabal Al Akhdar: Nestled in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate's Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Al Manakhir village has emerged as a premier sustainable tourism destination, renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes and diverse terrain that attract nature enthusiasts and travellers alike. The village is surrounded by indigenous flora including ancient trees such as wild olive (Al Utum), wild berries (Al Boot) and Al'alan tree (Juniperus Excelsa). Local residents maintain traditional agricultural practices, cultivating pomegranates, peaches, apricots, olives, and walnuts alongside livestock rearing - activities that collectively form the economic backbone of the community. Strategically located in the eastern part of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Al Manakhir holds the distinction of being the first village in the region to greet the sunrise and the primary destination for visitors arriving via the Birkat Al Mouz - Al Jabal Al Akhdar route. Notable landmarks include the restored Al Ghaba Tower in 2010 and Mitrah Boukbeer - the area's largest seasonal waterfall during wadi flows.' Al Nabhani told Oman News Agency (ONA) that Al Manakhir connects to multiple villages across A'Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah governorates through established trails including Wadi Mistal in Nakhal, Wadi Halfin to Samail, Wadi Bani Kharus to Al Awabi, and Imti village to Izki. These routes, marked with directional signage by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, have become popular for hiking and mountaineering while facilitating discovery of the area's historical sites. "Journey of Challenge" programme attracts 740 students from across governorates to hone skills
Al Jabal Al Akhdar: As the summer holiday begins, students are eager to invest their free time in meaningful educational and recreational activities that develop their skills and enhance their capabilities. Educational centres are dedicated to providing engaging and safe programmes that combine learning with enjoyment. They offer a variety of activities such as art workshops, educational camps, sports, self-development programmes, and recreational trips. These initiatives aim to instill positive values like cooperation, discipline, and creativity, while also developing students' talents and motivating them to discover their potential in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positive energy, learn new skills, and build friendships among participants. In this context, the Ministry of Education, represented by the Career Guidance and Student Counselling Centre, in collaboration with "Challenge Oman," is implementing a summer programme for students. The programme, titled "Journey of Challenge," aims to empower and develop students' skills and prepare them for future demands through a stimulating, interactive environment that blends learning with practical experience. The programme began this July and will continue until 21 August. The programme includes 37 specialised training courses with the participation of 740 male and female students from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The courses cover diverse topics focused on building students' character and enhancing their skills in different aspects of life. The sessions are being held in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and at the Ashour Camp in Dhofar Governorate. The programme aims to promote self-discovery, build self-confidence, and foster new friendships among students from different governorates. It also includes field visits to the Outward Bound Oman centre in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, which features two educational halls, a theatre, and outdoor learning units, to provide a unique learning and training experience.
