Yahoo9 hours ago

The Ottawa Senators have signed veteran forward Claude Giroux to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday.
The deal comes with a base salary of $2 million but could rise to $4.75 million based on performance bonuses.
The 37-year-old Giroux scored 15 goals and added another 35 assists last season, playing a key role on a Sens team that made the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2017.
In three seasons with the Senators, Giroux has only missed a single regular season game, the team noted in its announcement.
"Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice," said Steve Staios, the Sens' general manager and president of hockey operations, in a statement.
"We are excited to bring him back next season."
Giroux has tallied 1,116 points over the course of 18 NHL seasons.

Arch Manning Names Five-Star Freshman That Has Looked 'Good'

Arch Manning Names Five-Star Freshman That Has Looked 'Good' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas quarterback Arch Manning has no shortage of playmakers at his disposal this season. Manning is entering his first year as the full-time starter for the Longhorns and will need to lean on several players to take the pressure off of him. Texas has several returning playmakers like wide receivers Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore, but there's a couple true freshman who could make an impact as well. Advertisement Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff brought in the No. 1 overall recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. The group consists of two blue-chip receivers in Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench. When Manning spoke with the media at the Manning Passing Academy over the weekend, he specifically mentioned Lockett as a player who has looked good over the summer. "Kaliq's looking good this summer," Manning said. "We're fired up. We've got a young but talented group." Lockett and Ffrench will likely work their way into the rotation as the season progresses. Last year, Sarkisian used true freshman Ryan Wingo in a variety of ways. Advertisement Although Texas has several inexperienced players at key positions this season, the Longhorns will open the 2025 college football season ranked one of the top three teams in the nation. Anthony Hill Jr., Colin Simmons, and Michael Taaffe are key playmakers on the defensive side who will lead one of the top units in the nation. Predators trade Colton Sissons, Jeremy Lauzon to Vegas for Nicolas Hague

The Nashville Predators are trading defenseman Jeremy Lauzon and center Colton Sissons to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for defenseman Nicolas Hague according to a report by TSN's Darren Dreger. In the deal, the Predators acquire Hague, a 26-year-old left-handed defenseman. He is a restricted free agent coming off a three-year, $6.8 million contract with Vegas. Advertisement According to another report by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Hague is signing a four-year, $5.5 million extension with the Predators. Hague is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound defenseman who scored five goals and seven assists in 68 games with the Golden Knights last season. Since being drafted in the second round by Vegas in 2017, Hague has 20 goals and 63 assists in 364 career games. By acquiring Hague, the Predators get younger on the back end. By trading Sissons, they open up some cap space to sign Hague to an extension. Predators acquire and sign D Hague to 4-year deal in trade that sends C Scissons, D Lauzon to Vegas

The Nashville Predators acquired defenseman Nicolas Hague in a three-player trade that sent center Colton Sissons and defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to the Vegas Golden Knights, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed to the Associated Press early Monday. In completing the trade, the Predators also agreed to sign Hague to a four-year $22 million, the person added and spoke on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced. TSN first reported the trade taking place. The 26-year-old Hague was a pending restricted free agent who had the right to go to arbitration after completing his sixth season. At 6-foot-6, he's a hard-hitting, defensive-minded player who had five goals and 12 points in 68 games. Overall, he has 20 goals and 83 points in 364 games, all with Vegas. The trade comes as teams shuffle their rosters ahead of the NHL's free agency signing period, which opens Tuesday. The Predators are retooling their lineup after missing the playoffs for the second time in three years. The Golden Knights essentially freed up salary cap space by removing the uncertainty of what they stood in having to pay Hague, for the cost-certainty of adding two players entering the final years of their respective contracts. Vegas has been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner, who is regarded as the top free agent set to enter the market. The 31-year-old Sissons leaves Nashville after spending his entire 11-season career with the Predators. He has one year left on his seven-year contract and represents a $2.86 million cap hit. Sissons had seven goals and 21 points in 72 games last year, and has 95 goals and 221 points in 691 career outings. Lauzon, 28, represents a $2 million cap hit. He has seven seasons of NHL experience and was limited to an assist in 28 games last year before sustaining a season-ending lower body injury. ___ AP NHL:
