NEW DELHI -- The Quad, often seen as a counterweight to China's growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, is seeking to expand regional cooperation through trilateral partnerships, even as expanded membership remains a distant prospect.
The group, consisting of the U.S., Japan, India and Australia, is looking into working with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and other like-minded nations, with one idea being India-France-Indonesia cooperation, Noriaki Abe, an official in charge of political affairs at the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi, told Nikkei Asia on the sidelines of an event on July 10.
