Urea shortage creating unrest among farmers: CM Siddaramaiah
'DoF has ensured timely and adequate availability of 8.73 lakh MT of urea against pro-rata requirement of 6.3 lakh MT to Karnataka during the ongoing Kharif 2025 season so far. During the same period, the state has recorded sales of 7.08 LMT-much higher than the pro-rata requirement,' the Department of Fertilisers stated, responding to Siddaramaiah's letter to Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda.
DoF further added that it continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with the State Government to ensure Karnataka's farmers have timely access to urea throughout the Kharif season.

Initiatives like fintech in Mangaluru and drone development in Hubballi-Dharwad have shown balanced progress in the State. 'The Tech Summit is a chance to connect, collaborate, and shape a shared future,' he said. The Chief Minister said Karnataka is an economic powerhouse with a GSDP of $337 billion, India's fourth-largest economy, contributing nearly 9% to the national GDP. Bengaluru is a global tech leader, ranked among the top 15 start-up ecosystems worldwide. It hosts over 18,000 start-ups, including 50 plus unicorns, and 40% of India's Global Capability Centres, with R&D hubs from companies like Bosch, Intel, and SAP. Skilling youth 'Through programmes like NIPUNA Karnataka, we are training over 1,00,000 young people in skills like AI, cybersecurity, and biotechnology, partnering with global leaders like Microsoft and Accenture', Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

Karnataka opens global bridge to Bengaluru ahead of flagship tech summit
Bengaluru/New Delhi: In a high-powered diplomatic outreach, the state govt hosted 'Bridge to Bengaluru', a first-of-its-kind international dialogue in New Delhi Friday, to attract global collaboration in innovation, technology and investment ahead of the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 (BTS), scheduled for Nov 18-20 in Bengaluru. Diplomats from over 60 countries — including the US, UK, Finland, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Vietnam and Sri Lanka — engaged with Karnataka's top political and administrative brass during a closed-door session. The event is part of the state's Global Innovation Alliance (GIA) initiative, launched in 2017, which now spans 35 nations. Participating in the programme, chief minister Siddaramaiah said Karnataka seeks to build global ties on shared trust, common goals, and mutual benefit. "Karnataka welcomes the world not just as investors, but as partners," he said. "Our sectoral policies across ESDM, AVGC, green hydrogen, tourism, electric mobility, and renewables are designed to create a robust ecosystem for responsible and resilient growth. RTC workers to go on indefinite strike from August 5
As the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced an indefinite strike from August 5, seeking wage revision and other demands, the transport department officials clarified that wages were already revised in 2023 and will only be revised again in 2027. The JAC, which represents employees of all four State-run transport corporations, has demanded a salary hike effective from January 1, 2024, and the settlement of pending arrears for 38 months from January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2023. It has also insisted that the revised pay be applicable for four years, up to December 31, 2027. Transport officials, however, maintain that the government has already addressed these concerns. 'During the COVID-19 period, despite complete or partial suspension of bus operations, the government continued to pay salaries and allowances to all employees of the four transport corporations. Later, in March 2023, a government order revised wages with effect from March 17, 2023,' a senior official said. The official added that a notional 15% hike had been granted, which would be implemented through monthly increments, and remain in force from 2023 to 2027. 'As per the order issued last year, the next wage revision is only due in 2027,' the official said, ruling out any scope for changes before that. However, the JAC, in a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, expressed strong disappointment. 'At the July 4 meeting, you rejected our demands and misinterpreted the previous government's order. You claimed there are no pending dues and ruled out any revision before 2027. This has come as a shock to transport workers,' the committee stated.
