Chinese journalist hurt by Ukrainian drone attack in Russia: network
BEIJING: A Chinese TV journalist was wounded by a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia's Kursk region while reporting near targeted facilities, his employer said Friday.
Lu Yuguang, a reporter with the state-affiliated Phoenix TV, 'was wounded in the head' on Thursday afternoon and was sent to hospital for treatment, the broadcaster said.
In a video circulated by Russian state television on Friday, Lu was seen speaking to reporters with a white bandage over his head.
Lu was with a film crew in the village of Korenevo at the time of the strike, Russia's foreign ministry said.
It accused Kyiv of 'deliberately attacking' journalists and called on 'responsible governments to condemn' it.
Beijing's foreign ministry also said it was 'deeply concerned' that a Chinese journalist had been wounded.
'The Chinese side calls on all parties to commit to a political resolution of the Ukraine crisis and jointly work toward easing tensions,' spokesman Guo Jiakun said.
China has portrayed itself as a neutral party in Russia's more than three-year war with Ukraine.
But Western governments say Beijing's close ties have given Moscow crucial economic and diplomatic support.

The 'transnational criminal organization' orchestrated a 'multi-billion-dollar health care fraud and money laundering scheme' that included purchasing dozens of medical equipment companies from prior legitimate owners to perpetrate the fraud, according to the indictment dated June 18. More than a million Medicare recipients had their personal information stolen and used by the defendants to file for billions of dollars in claims from Medicare and its supplemental insurers, prosecutors said in the filing. The claims were filed through medical equipment providers that the group had purchased, but no equipment was ever sent out for the payments. Medicare paid 'approximately $41 million as a result of the fraudulent submissions' and supplemental insurers are estimated to have paid out $900 million more between 2022 and 2024, prosecutors wrote. The scheme was organized by Imam Nakhmatullaev, who is based in Russia, officials said, and managed the other defendants who were in Estonia, the Czech Republic and the United States. The fraud was identified after 'hundreds of thousands of Americans reported their concerns to Medicare and its contractors after receiving explanation of benefit forms that reflected them purportedly receiving' equipment that they neither sought or received, the indictment said.

Two US lawmakers on Friday asked the Commerce Department to investigate whether devices sold by Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus in the United States pose security concerns, according to a letter seen by Reuters. Saudi Arabia Condemns Israeli Settlers' Violence against Palestinians
Saudi Arabia has denounced the violence of Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry. On Friday, the Foreign Ministry said that the Kingdom condemned and denounced the continued violence committed by Israeli settlers, under the protection of the Israeli forces, against Palestinian civilians, including the attacks in the village of Kafr Malik, east of Ramallah. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia reiterated its condemnation of the continued Israeli violence against unarmed civilians in Gaza, including targeting civilian sites housing displaced people, according to the statement. The Kingdom emphasized the need to make every effort to protect Palestinian civilians and enable the Palestinian people to exercise all their legitimate rights. It also renewed its call for the international community to assume its responsibilities to end Israeli violations of international laws and norms, the statement said. On Wednesday night, dozens of Israeli settlers stormed the village of Kafr Malik, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli settlers set vehicles and homes on fire, under the protection of Israeli forces, which fired live bullets at Palestinian civilians. The attack left three Palestinians dead and seven injured, according to Palestinian WAFA news agency. Israel has built about 160 settlements, housing some 700,000 Jews, since it occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967, according to BBC. The international law deems settlements illegal. However, successive Israeli governments have allowed settlements to expand, most notably since the return of Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to power in late 2022. In May 2025, Israel announced plans to establish 22 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, a controversial move backed by the Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, and Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich.
