Karnataka MLA Raju Kage backs BR Patil's allegations of housing scam, says
'What BR Patil said is true... The same situation is being created for me too... It wouldn't be surprising if I submit my resignation to the CM in the next two days', Kage told ANI.
He claimed that government officials are not working properly and that the administrative system in the state has failed.
'Officials are not working properly in our government. The Chief Minister's special grant has been sanctioned. Rs 25 crore was granted, but even after two years, the work order has not been issued. The administrative system in our state has completely failed. Because of this, I am deeply hurt. Even I am in a situation where I might resign,' he added.
BR Patil had earlier levelled serious allegations against the Housing Board, stating that houses under the Rajiv Gandhi housing scheme are allotted only when bribes are paid.
According to Patil, he is supposed to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tomorrow (June 25) after the latter invited him for a meeting, possibly to discuss the allegations raised.
Patil acknowledged that it was his voice in the audio clip that went viral on social media, where a phone conversation purportedly between Patil and Sarfaraz Khan, the personal assistant (PA) to Karnataka Housing and Minority Welfare Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, has brought the Congress government under fire due to allegations of irregularities in the housing allotment.
'The CM called me for a meeting. I will meet him on the evening of June 25. He asked me where I was and whether I was coming to Raichur. He asked me to meet him. He did not ask me anything about the audio. I have owned that it was my voice,' Patil told reporters here.
Earlier today, another Congress MLA, Sivaganga Basavaraj, expressed dissatisfaction with the government, claiming that while thousands of crores of projects were inaugurated, the work is not being completed without bribes. He, however, did not agree with CR Patil publicly raising the issue, whereas it should have been done during the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meet.
'Thousands of crores of work have been launched in Davangere. It is not possible to launch the work without money, but everything is fine. Some elders have spoken; they should not have spoken to the media. all this can be discussed in the CLP meet,' the MLA said.
Talking about the allegations raised by BR Patil, he added, 'They should not have spoken like that. They should speak during the CLP meeting. I have seen who does not speak at the CLP meeting. They sit quietly in the meeting and speak against the government in the media outside.' (ANI)

Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai turned emotional on recalling the moment he fulfilled his father's dream by becoming a judge and also highlighted on Sunday the benefits of studying in his Marathi mother tongue, claiming that it helped him in better conceptual understanding. The CJI virtually held back his tears as he opened his heart at a lawyers' event in Maharashtra, saying, 'I am happy my father's dream to see me become a judge has come true.' The CJI, the first Buddhist to occupy the top post, fondly remembered his father and his early days in the legal profession at the 161st-anniversary celebrations of the Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI), an organisation he joined in 1983. On Sunday, the CJI visited Chikitsak Samuh Shirodkar School in Girgaon, reminiscing about his childhood memories. Having studied from primary to secondary levels at this very institution, he expressed deep gratitude to the teachers who shaped his early life. Speaking at the school, Chief Justice Gavai said, 'Whatever height I have reached today, my teachers and this school have played a significant role in it. The education and values I received here gave direction to my life.' 'My journey in public speaking began on this very stage. Through speech competitions and cultural programmes, I gained confidence. It is because of those opportunities that I am what I am today,' he recalled. The CJI added, 'I studied in a Marathi-medium school. Studying in one's mother tongue helps in better conceptual understanding, and also instils strong values that stay with you for life.' Justice Gavai toured the classrooms, library, and art section of the school, interacting warmly with his old classmates and reliving fond memories. The heartfelt tribute given by the students was a deeply emotional and proud moment for him. His visit was a matter of great honour and inspiration for the school. Present on the occasion were Maharashtra's Skill Development Minister and Mumbai City Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Bombay High Court Justice Madhav Jamadar, Chikitsak Samuh President Kishore Rangnekar, Secretary Dr Gurunath Pandit, Principal Sanchita Gawde, and other dignitaries. Justice Gavai comes from a distinguished background. His father, Ramakrishna Suryabhan Gavai, was a prominent Ambedkarite leader and founder of the Republican Party of India (RPI). Fondly known as Dadasaheb, the senior Gavai was also a member of the Lok Sabha from Amravati and served as the Governor of Bihar, Sikkim, and Kerala between 2006 and 2011 during the tenure of the Congress-led UPA government. He passed away in 2015, four years before his son's elevation to the Supreme Court. Justice Gavai was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019. In the six years before his elevation, he was a part of around 700 Benches dealing with matters pertaining to a variety of subjects, including constitutional and administrative law, civil law, criminal law, commercial disputes, arbitration law, electricity law, education matters and environmental law. He has authored around 300 judgments, including that of the Constitution Bench on various issues, upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the fundamental rights, human rights and legal rights of citizens. Appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in November 2003, Justice Gavai became a permanent Judge in November 2005.

SC administration asks Centre to take back official CJI residence occupied by DY Chandrachud
The Supreme Court administration has written to the Centre seeking the vacation of the official residence of the chief justice of India, stating that former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has stayed beyond the permissible period, PTI reported on Sunday. In a July 1 communication to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Supreme Court administration urged the Centre to take back possession of the residence on 5, Krishna Menon Marg in New Delhi, allotted to Chandrachud during his tenure as the chief justice, and return it to the court's housing pool. The administration said that the permission granted to the former chief justice of India to retain the accommodation expired on May 31 and that the six-month period allowed under the Supreme Court Judges Amendment Rules, 2022, had ended on May 10. As per Rule 3B of the amended 2022 rules, a retired chief justice can retain a Type VII bungalow – a lower grade than the Krishna Menon Marg bungalow – for up to six months after retirement. Chandrachud, who served as the 50th chief justice of India from November 2022 to November 2024, has remained in the official residence nearly eight months after leaving office. He said that the delay in vacating the house was due to his daughters' ' severe comorbidities and genetic conditions ', for which they are currently receiving treatment at AIIMS, the Hindustan Times reported. Chandrachud added that he had already been allotted a new house on rent by the government, but it was under renovation as it had remained shut for nearly two years. 'It is a matter of just few days and I will shift,' the Hindustan Times quoted him as saying. 'I have occupied the highest judicial office and am completely cognisant of my responsibilities.' In December, Chandrachud had written to his immediate successor, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, seeking permission to stay at the official residence until April 30. Khanna had approved the request and the housing ministry had allowed the extension with a nominal licence fee of Rs 5,000 per month. Later, Chandrachud verbally requested Khanna to extend his stay until May 31, PTI reported. The request was approved, but with the condition that no further extensions would be granted. In April, Chandrachud informed Khanna in writing that he was in the process of shortlisting an alternative accommodation suited to his daughters' needs and requested to stay on until June 30, the Hindustan Times reported. His two successors, Khanna and current Chief Justice BR Gavai chose not to move into the Krishna Menon Marg residence, opting instead to remain in their previously allotted homes.

BJP government eroding autonomy of Assam tribal councils, says Gaurav Gogoi
GUWAHATI Assam Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday (July 5, 2025) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam was systematically eroding the autonomy of the tribal councils functioning under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. He held Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma primarily responsible for 'undermining the spirit' of these autonomous councils, rather than upholding their constitutional mandate. 'Power was decentralised to the BTC, KAAC, and NCHAC during the 15-year tenure of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, as the Sixth Schedule was intended to ensure administrative and financial autonomy for these regions,' Mr. Gogoi told journalists in Diphu, the headquarters of Karbi Anglong district. 'The people of these regions should have the authority to make decisions regarding their development. Authority should not be confined to Delhi or Dispur (the State capital); it must extend to the councils,' he said.
