GAA pay tribute to mother and children killed in Fermanagh shooting
It took place ahead of the All Ireland Senior Football final in memory of Vanessa Whyte and her children, James and Sara who were fatally injured following a shooting at their home on Wednesday.

Veterinary surgeon Ms Whyte was in her 40s and originally from Co Clare.
A man remains in hospital following gunshot wounds with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) believing the horror incident was an attempted murder-suicide.
The popular matriarch had played camogie for the local club, St Joseph's Doora Barefield, with locals telling of her love of hurling and Clare GAA.

St Josephs' Doora Barefield GAA club said it was 'shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing yesterday of Barefield native Vanessa Whyte and her two beautiful children James and Sara in Fermanagh'.
After relocating to the North, Vanessa joined St Patrick's Lisbellaw Hurling Club, where her children were also members.

Fr Tom Fitzpatrick, parish priest in Barefield, Co. Clare, told Clare FM last week that though no details have been finalised, it's the family's wish that the funeral be held in Clare.
Clare FM reported that Ms Whyte 'was a frequent visitor to friends and family in Barefield and was a keen Clare GAA supporter, even attending last year's All-Ireland hurling final with Sara and James'.
A vigil took place over the weekend at Maguiresbridge Primary School, where James and Sara had both previously attended.
School principal Honor Irvine described the two sporty kids as popular, noting she had taught them both for two years.
'James was full of fun, always laughing, loved to get a laugh, loved to be outdoors. Sara was the same. Sara loved outdoors, bit of a tomboy, and the two of them got on very well, [had] lots of friends and were very popular in school' she said.

Man who sent Springsteen concert videos has conviction for breaching order removed
A man who broke a safety order by sending a woman videos of a Bruce Springsteen concert has had his conviction removed on appeal. Judge Christopher Callan said that he was sure Springsteen 'would not be too happy' to see his music being used in this way and that the man's actions were not in line with the singer's message as a performing artist. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in the District Court to the breach of a safety order contrary to section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act 2018. He received a one-month suspended sentence in March 2025 and later lodged an appeal against the severity of that term. READ MORE Gda Rachel O'Mahony told the District Court Appeals Court that on June 20th, 2024, the injured party reported to gardaí that the man had breached a safety order on three occasions. She said that on dates between February 2nd, 2024, and June 20th, 2024, the man sent the injured party text messages to her mobile phone. Gda O'Mahony said that these messages included videos taken at a Bruce Springsteen concert in Croke Park and a YouTube link. Gda O'Mahony said the woman said this communication put her in fear. She also presented a victim-impact statement to the judge that was not read aloud in court. Defence counsel for the man, Seosaimhín Ní Chathasaigh BL, said her client co-operated fully with the gardaí and did not dispute the charges. She said he has sincere remorse for the hurt caused by his actions and this is not a pattern of behaviour that will continue in the future. Ms Ní Chathasaigh confirmed to the judge that the safety order has already been extended to last until 2030 with consent from her client. She said her client is not seeking to avoid accountability but having a conviction would have life-altering effects in regards to his employment or possible travel. He said the videos were 'intending to give a certain message' to the injured party, which was explained in her victim-impact statement. Judge Callan decided to remove the man's criminal conviction on the condition he pays a donation of €1,000 to Women's Aid, noting the safety order remains in place until 2030.

Man arrested as herbal cannabis valued at more than €2m seized at Cork port
A man has been arrested after Revenue officers seized more than €2 million worth of herbal cannabis in Cork. The 107kg seizure was made on Sunday at the Port of Cork, with the assistance of detector dog Rua. The drugs were discovered in a trailer originating from Croatia, which had disembarked a vessel arriving from Zeebrugge in Belgium. Valued at €2.1 million, the haul was part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
