Nico Hoerner added two hits and a key defensive play as the Cubs won the rubber game in the weekend set. The North Siders went 5-1 in the season series against the South Siders.
The Cubs (62-43) remained tied with Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. They open a three-game series against the Brewers on Monday night.
Andrew Benintendi homered twice and drove in four runs for the White Sox (38-68), who finished with three errors.

The Cubs jumped in front in the first against Grant Taylor (0-2). Crow-Armstrong picked up a two-run double on a well-placed grounder up the third base line.

MLB trade deadline rumors: Latest news, updates from around baseball

Major League Baseball's 2025 trade deadline is just days away, set for 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 31. A few deals have come together in the past week, notably Josh Naylor (Mariners) and Ryan McMahon (Yankees) finding new homes. Some of the other top players who have surfaced in trade rumors are Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez and Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara. Suárez is in the midst of a spectacular season, on pace for 55 home runs and 133 RBIs, while former Cy Young winner Alcantara has struggled after missing all of 2024 following Tommy John surgery. Top contenders will be jockeying to add to their lineups, rotations and bullpens for the stretch run with the ultimate goal of playing deep into October. Follow along on Monday for the latest news and rumors: DIamondbacks trade rumors continue 'Do I think there's a chance we make more trades? Yes, I do,' Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said. 'I think there's going to be enough interest that we probably will have to look at — think long and hard about what we're doing. I just don't know the extent to which that's going to happen and how many that's going to be.' He said interest in his veterans on expiring deals — namely right-handers Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen and third baseman Eugenio Suarez — has been strong, though he admitted his group has not yet focused its attention on those players. – Nick Piecoro, Arizona Republic Yankees add depth with Amed Rosario trade The New York Yankees acquired Amed Rosario in a trade with the Washington Nationals, providing depth as a player who has the versatility to play all around the infield. Rosario has started 20 games at third base and 13 games at second base for the Nationals this season. He's also proven to be trouble for left-handed pitchers. He's batting .299 with an .816 OPS against lefties in 2025. Rosario joined the Nationals this season after spending time with five other teams over the first eight seasons of his major league career. He signed a one-year deal worth $2 million during the offseason and will become a free agent after the season concludes. – James H. Williams Should Detroit Tigers trade Tarik Skubal this winter? Find out when Notre Dame football will start its fall camp for the 2025 season

As we are heading towards the end of July, we know Notre Dame football is right around the corner when fall camps starts. Typically teams have about a month from when they report to begin really preparing for the season and when the opener is, which is exactly the case for the Irish. They'll start camp this coming Thursday, July 31st, with the first game being played against Miami on the road on Aug. 31st according to On3. There is plenty of hype surrounding the Notre Dame program at the moment, fresh off an impressive run to the College Football Playoff championship game, followed up by arguably the best recruiting class ever in the 2026 cycle. Head coach Marcus Freeman is also getting plenty of national attention, and big things are expected from this team once again as the season rapidly approaches. Notre Dame does have more than a few questions surrounding its team, but many of the other tops teams are also facing the same issue. The Irish should enjoy another successful regular season, one that propels them once against into the CFP. 2026 4-star CB and Texas A&M commit shuts down recruitment

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class features two of the top cornerback prospects in the cycle, starting with five-star Brandon Arrington and four-star Victor Singleton, who the Aggies flipped from Illinois back in early April. Singleton has been one of the program's biggest supporters via social media, cheering on every commitment in the class, while his elite skill set on the field speaks for itself. On Sunday, Singleton joined a long list of Texas A&M's 27 commits who have shut down their recruitment, following four-star linebacker DaQuives Beck, who announced his shutdown on Friday night, which was spurred by wide receivers Aaron Gregory and Madden Williams and edge commits Jordan Carter and Samu Moala, who all announced their shutdowns this summer. Singleton is one of the fiercest defenders in the 2026 class, and the fact that head coach Mike Elko and defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson flipped him from Illinois head coach Bret Bielema, who has developed and sent several cornerbacks to the NFL, is quite the recruiting win. On the field, Singleton isn't afraid to tackle and is one of the better man coverage specialists due to his elite athleticism, quickness, and defensive instincts. During his 2024 junior season, Singleton recorded 30 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four interceptions. According to On3, Singleton is currently positioned as the 56th-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 8th-ranked cornerback, and the third-ranked prospect in Ohio.
