Marcus Fakana: Teenager jailed in Dubai pleads for early release
'Heart-breaking start to adulthood'
Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Dubai said: "This has been the most traumatic and life-altering experience imaginable for Marcus."He is barely an adult himself, and never intended to break any law. What happened was legal in the UK and consensual. But now he is facing permanent damage to his mental health and future prospects because of it."Detained in Dubai said Fakana was only able to call his family sporadically for short periods, adding that the isolation had been mentally and emotionally devastating for both him and his loved ones. His parents have been urgently appealing to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the British Embassy in Dubai for assistance in advocating for his release."If Marcus could go back in time, he would. He has shown remorse and fully respects the laws of the UAE. He only hopes the government will show compassion and allow him to return home to rebuild his life," Ms Stirling added."He's very young and this is a heart-breaking way to begin adulthood."
"Parents need to be aware that teens can be charged in the UAE for behaviour that would not be considered criminal at home, whether that's a relationship, social media activity, or even drinking alcohol," Ms Stirling added.Detained in Dubai warned that the case highlighted the need for increased awareness and diplomatic protections for citizens abroad."Marcus is struggling, and this experience will leave a permanent scar," Ms Stirling said. "We implore Sheikh Mohammed and the government of Dubai to hear his pleas and let him come home."The government of Dubai previously said: "Under UAE law, the girl is legally classified as a minor and, in accordance with procedures recognised internationally, her mother - being the legal guardian - filed the complaint."It added: "Dubai's legal system is committed to protecting the rights of all individuals and ensuring impartial judicial proceedings."The FCDO has been approached for comment.

Iran executes two members of opposition group for attacking infrastructure
DUBAI, July 27 (Reuters) - Iran executed two members of the banned Mujahideen-e-Khalq group for attacking civilian infrastructure with homemade projectiles, the judiciary news outlet Mizan said on Sunday, amid criticism from Amnesty International over a "grossly unfair" trial. Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani-Eslamloo, identified as "operational elements" of the MEK, were sentenced to death in September 2024 - a verdict upheld by the Supreme Court, which denied their request for a retrial, Mizan said. "The terrorists, in coordination with MEK leaders, had ... built launchers and hand-held mortars in line with the group's goals, fired projectiles heedlessly at citizens, homes, service and administrative facilities, educational and charity centres," the report said. The defendants were indicted with "moharebeh", - an Islamic term meaning waging war against God - destroying public property and "membership in a terrorist organisation with the aim of disrupting national security." Amnesty International said that Ehsani-Eslamloo and Hassani were arrested in 2022 and maintained their innocence during a trial which the rights group called "grossly unfair and marred by allegations of torture and forced confessions.' "According to informed sources, agents interrogated them without lawyers present and subjected them to torture and other ill-treatment, including beatings and prolonged solitary confinement, to extract self-incriminating statements," it said in January. According to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, the number of people executed in Iran rose to at least 901 in 2024, the highest number since 2015. The MEK, known in English as People's Mujahideen Organisation of Iran, was a powerful leftist-Islamist group that staged bombing campaigns against the shah's government and U.S. targets in the 1970s but ultimately fell out with the other factions of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Since then, the MEK has opposed the Islamic Republic and its leadership in exile has been Paris-based. The group was listed as a terrorist organisation by the U.S. and the European Union until 2012.

OnlyFans model was ‘scalped during torture' before being left for dead on roadside after ‘Dubai Porta Potty' party
A UKRAINIAN OnlyFans model left for dead at a sex party was "scalped during torture", her heartbroken mum has said. Maria Kovalchuk, 21, had to have her scalp sewn back on with horrific medical images showing a huge scar on the top of her head. 8 8 8 Maria claims she was brutalised during a "porta potty party" in Dubai and tortured by rich Russians. She vanished for more than a week after attending the disturbed event before being discovered unconscious with horrific injuries on the roadside. Maria is now recovering in Norway but doesn't remember anything about her experience after falling into a coma. She is still unable to walk without the help of crutches and hasn't been able to leave a hideaway out of fear for her life. Her mum, Anna, has now revealed more grim details about the state Maria was found in. She says Maria's "hair was shorn with a knife" before the young model was scalped. Speaking on Ukrainian TV show Hovoryt vsia kraina, Anna said: "My impression is that it was just done like this, with a knife, and right across the face. "It looked as if it was done with a knife from the centre of the head all the way down to the eye, and the hair was cut off. "Why the hair was cut is unclear, because it wasn't done at the hospital, the nurses told me that and confirmed it. 'They wouldn't have been able to lift it like that in hospital, because there was a massive wound on the head.' OnlyFans model Juli Luxie, 21, found dead at home in France after family didn't hear from her for two weeks An emotional Anna added: "If you saw the stitches on the head, how the scalp [had to be] sewn back on." Maria has had to go through nine serious operations since being found. Three on each leg, two on her spine and a final surgery to fix her snapped shoulder blade, according to Anna. One of Maria's legs is in such a bad state despite the operations that Anna says it is likely she'll never have any feeling there. Despite her sickening injuries, the family are yet to get any answers around what really happened out in Dubai. Maria alleged that all the CCTV recordings that could have shown parts of the horror ordeal have been erased to remove any evidence. She also claimed her medical bills for the operations were all unusually covered by Dubai police. It was initially believed that Maria had been kidnapped into a sex trafficking ring linked to the notorious 'Porta Potty' scene in the UAE. 8 8 8 These are disturbing events which are known to involve high-paying clients who degrade women, often influencers, for large sums of cash. But an insider close to Maria has now blamed her injuries on Russia. They claimed: "It was the Russians who tortured Maria." According to Maria and her friends, she had missed her flight home to Thailand while staying at the luxury Five Jumeirah Village hotel in Dubai. She was offered a place to stay by a 19-year-old man she had recently met at a karaoke barr before being invited to a hotel room. She was then allegedly abused for several hours. Police have already questioned a teen who is the son of a prominent Russian businessman and fits the suspected profile. Artyom Papazov, 19, admitted he was at a three day party with Maria but denies having any knowledge of the alleged abuse. Aleksandra Mertsalova, 19, daughter of a Moscow businessman, was also quizzed over the incident. Both were released without charge. Dubai police have also examined a theory that suggests Maria may have jumped from an eight-floor ledge from a nearby construction site. A neurosurgeon who examined the model's injuries has categorically said her wounds were not consistent with such a fall. They are more likely to have been caused by Maria being beaten and hit by a car, he added. Anna has now also claimed she has been threatened online for speaking out about the case. She said: 'I got a disappearing message on my phone. It read: 'We'll find you even in Norway'.' What are Porta Potty parties? PORTA potty parties are events, usually in the United Arab Emirates, where women are paid large amounts of money to sexually gratify wealthy men - in often highly degrading ways. It's thought that the women are sometimes duped into participating on false pretences - such as the promise of a modelling contract. At the events, men exploit the opportunity to commit depraved acts on the women. The name supposedly comes from the fact that the deeply disturbing acts can include men treating women as human toilets. Women, often from ex-Soviet countries, are lured in by the promise of a glamorous lifestyle and highly paid careers in the oil-rich states. An expert told The Sun that, once in the country, they fall under the complete control of the men and can be raped, drugged or even end up dead. Recruiters often target attractive women with online presences, or even TV stars. Radha Stirling, founder and CEO of Detained in Dubai, told The Sun: "It's exploitation disguised as glamour or opportunity. Women, in particular, are offered all sorts of opportunities in Dubai. "They might be offered to come and model, to come and play music, or to expand their career in some way or another. "But what they don't realise is that when they get there, they are essentially at the beck and call of whoever has brought them there. "They're under their complete control, and they put themselves in such a risky position where they could end up gang raped, they could end up drugged, they could end up dead." 8 8
