Russian Boxer Faces Backlash For Letting Endangered Orangutan Use Vape Pen
Russian boxer Anastasia Luchkina faces backlash for giving a vape to an endangered orangutan at a Crimea safari park, causing health issues and sparking outrage.
Russian boxer Anastasia Luchkina is facing backlash after a disturbing incident in Crimea, where she gave a vape to an endangered orangutan named Dana at a safari park. The 24-year-old boxer shared a video, giving a hit from her vape pen to Dana, which has sparked widespread outrage.

According to local reports, Dana displayed 'disturbing" behaviour after consuming the nicotine, including loss of appetite and lack of interaction with others. The situation has worsened, with Dana reportedly lying motionless throughout the day, sparking concerns about her health.
'I'm worried that Dana might swallow the cap, because this plastic can cause intestinal blockage and vomiting. Today, she's already eating poorly, feeling unwell, and sleeping all day. If there is an intestinal blockage, then all responsibility will fall on the shoulders of this girl. Danochka is like a child. She will put everything in her mouth, and God forbid, she might swallow it. This is very dangerous. It is not so dangerous that she smoked, although this is also very bad, as it is dangerous if she swallowed this cap, then, God forbid, Dana will have to be operated on," NDTV quoted the safari park's veterinarian, Vasily Piskovoy, as saying.
Veterinarians are worried that Dana may have swallowed the entire e-cigarette cartridge, which could lead to further complications. The incident has raised questions about animal welfare and the responsibility of individuals, especially public figures, when interacting with endangered species.
The incident has sparked a strong reaction, with many calling for action against Luchkina for her behaviour. One user wrote, 'Just disgusting behaviour and she should not be allowed to fight again." 'She should be arrested and imprisoned for life for endangering this innocent animal," another user commented.
SunSport quoted PETA UK vice president Mimi Bekhechi saying that, 'Anastasia Luchkina must have received a few too many knocks to the head if she thinks it's a lark to give an orangutan a vape…a violation of this intelligent, gentle ape's welfare."

St. Louis Blues re-sign RFA Nikita Alexandrov to one-year, two-way NHL contract ahead of training camp
(Nick Wass/AP) The St. Louis Blues have wrapped up their final piece of offseason business by re-signing restricted free agent Nikita Alexandrov to a one-year, two-way contract. The 24-year-old forward will earn $775,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 in the AHL, with a guaranteed salary of $350,000. With training camp on the horizon, Alexandrov's waiver status adds intrigue to his potential NHL role this season. Nikita Alexandrov's new contract, waiver eligibility , and NHL roster battle set up high-stakes training camp with St. Louis Blues After a productive AHL campaign, Nikita Alexandrov will enter the season on a fresh one-year deal that keeps him in the St. Louis Blues organization. Selected 62nd overall in the 2019 NHL Draft, Alexandrov has shown steady development through junior, overseas, and AHL levels. Last season, he recorded a career-best 21 goals and 28 assists in 48 games with Springfield, despite missing nearly two months due to a lower-body injury. Now waiver-eligible, Alexandrov can't be sent down to the minors without first clearing waivers, a risk for the Blues given his offensive upside. If he fails to make the NHL roster out of camp, St. Louis could potentially lose him to another team. On the flip side, a strong training camp could secure him a full-time NHL role, especially if the Blues view his skillset as too valuable to risk exposing to waivers. Daniil Medvedev smashes water bottle, flings racquet after loss to Corentin Moutet
Daniil Medvedev was reportedly booed off the court by fans after his defeat in the Washington Open quarter-finals to Corentin Moutet, who was in the tournament as a lucky loser. Cameras caught Medvedev's racquet flying into the air close to the stands immediately after he lost one of the most dramatic match points to be eliminated. He also smashed a water bottle twice on the ground after his defeat. Medvedev claimed the first set 6-1 before capitulating and dropping the next two 4-6, 4-6. Medvedev has been ranked No. 1 previously but is currently world No 14, his lowest spot in more than six years. Even before the outburst, there was drama in the air in Washington as the game was suspended for an hour due to lightning in the area. At that stage, Moutet was leading Medvedev 1-6, 6-4, 5-4. When play restarted, the Frenchman returned to defeat Medvedev. The Russian made three double faults in his final service game on Friday before his outburst. Drama til the bitter end 😱 The moment @moutet99 reached the biggest semi-final of his career! #MubadalaCitiDCOpen — Tennis TV (@TennisTV) July 25, 2025 While the Russian left the court angry at himself, the Frenchman will advance to his first semi-final above the ATP 250 level. The ATP website noted that while both players had struggled in the hot conditions in Washington, Medvedev had needed a medical timeout mid game at 2-4, 15/15 in the second set due to heat stress. You can always recognize Russian psychopaths, even when they compete 'without a flag.' Given how fragile the Russian economy is, smashing rackets after humiliating losses has gotten too expensive. So Medvedev switched to bottles instead. — Victoria (@victoriaslog) July 25, 2025 The hard courts are Medvedev's best surface. 'Usually, this is the most important part of the season for me,' Medvedev was quoted as saying by The Associated Press just before his defeat to Moutet on Friday. 'And this year, it's really important for me, because I didn't have the best year. I had a lot of time after Wimbledon, so I'm feeling ready and I feel in good shape.' Asked why he prefers the hard courts to other surfaces, he said: 'A lot of different things. My ball goes through the air the most. My serve goes faster. And this year, the courts seem pretty fast. On the ATP lately, the courts seem to only get slower and slower. But here it's super fast. I like the way it plays. It's one thing to like the way it plays and it's another thing to win. But I do feel like I can do big things.'
