KGET nominated for 9 Emmy Awards
The Pacific Southwest chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences announced nominations for its 2025 awards ceremony on Friday.

KGET earned a nomination for Overall Excellence which includes news coverage, promotional announcements and community involvement.
Nominations include four related to coverage of the Borel Fire that tore through mountain communities east of Bakersfield in 2024. KGET was nominated for three awards in the newscast category and one in the news special category.
17 News at Sunrise anchor and reporter Maddie Janssen was nominated for two special reports — Digital Addition and Explant: Breast Implant Illness. Digital Addiction was Janssen's report on the pervasiveness of screen time among young children and steps parents can take to break the habit.
Explant: Breast Implant Illness examined the stories of women who reported illness and symptoms that may have been related to breast implants.
KGET wins 4 Regional Murrow Awards
Reporter Robert Price was nominated for three Emmys. One for the story of Herb 'Buckshot' May — a Kern County native who made his only Major League appearance over 100 years ago. A second nomination was awarded for Price's story about Bakersfield's version of hot dogs sold by street vendors.
Price earned a nomination for a news special on the Borel Fire.
Winners will be announced in June.

'We're not in Richmond anymore': What we know about 'Ted Lasso' Season 4
Believe it — Season 4 of Ted Lasso has officially begun production, Apple TV+ announced this week. That's right, Coach Lasso, the show's beloved mustachioed and mild-mannered namesake, who helped guide audiences through a global pandemic with optimism and humanity, is back on the football pitch. Well, this calls for biscuits. Filming has officially kicked off in star Jason Sudeikis's (Ted Lasso) hometown of Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas called it 'another major victory for the city's rapidly expanding film industry,' in a post on X in which he appears to be sporting a blue Ted Lasso hat. Additional filming is also set to take place across the pond in London. Apple TV posted a video on Instagram of Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) and Sudeikis gathered around what appears to be a booth at a traditional American restaurant as some of the key members of AFC Richmond get ready to film a scene. The accompanying caption reads: 'We're not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.' The streaming service confirmed back in March that there would be a fourth season. The show has won 13 Emmy Awards and has received a total of 61 Emmy nominations. Barbecue sauce. What can fans expect in Season 4? At the end of Season 3, Ted ends up returning to the U.S. after coaching the fictional AFC Richmond soccer team in London in order to be closer to his son, Henry. The streaming service indicates on its website what fans can expect in the highly anticipated new season: 'Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.' Do we know when Season 4 will be released or if there's an official trailer? So far, Apple TV+ says a release date for Season 4 is coming soon. No official trailer has been released yet, aside from this week's teaser. Which characters will return? Even though they're not pictured in the promo image, the wise Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) will be back. Grant Feely will replace Gus Turner as Ted's son, Henry. Other newcomers to join the cast in roles that have yet to be revealed include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern. Who is not returning? Fan-favorites like Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) and Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) along with Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), James Lance (Trent Crimm), Cristo Fernandez (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo) and Billy Harris (Colin Hughes) weren't named as regular returning characters in Season 4. ‘The Cosby Show' Alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Cause of Death Confirmed
The Cosby Show alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner's cause of death has officially been revealed. The Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) confirmed that Warner's autopsy was completed on Tuesday, July 22. Warner's cause of death was "asphyxia due to submersion." It was ruled accidental. On Monday, July 21, TMZ and People reported that Warner had died at age 54, citing accidental drowning as the cause of death. Following the first report, ABC News spoke to the Costa Rican National Police, who told the outlet that Warner had drowned off the coast of Costa Rica and his official cause of death was asphyxia. Police claimed that he died near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, after being caught by a high current in the water. He was discovered on Sunday, July 20. Most Shocking Celebrity Deaths of All Time Warner, born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in August 1970, landed his breakout role as Bill Cosby's onscreen son Theo Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992. His performance earned him a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 1986 Emmy Awards. After The Cosby Show, Warner continued his television career on shows such as Malcolm & Eddie from 1996 to 2000, Reed Between the Lines in 2011 and 2015, Sons of Anarchy in 2014, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story in 2016 and The Resident from 2018 to 2023. Most recently, Warner had a four-episode-stint as Amir Casey on 9-1-1 in 2024. Aside from acting, Warner had a successful music and spoken poetry career. He won the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song 'Jesus Children' with Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway in 2015 followed by another Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album Hiding in Plain View in 2022. Despite Cosby's sexual assault scandals, Warner said that the show is still 'so groundbreaking' and important. 'What made it so groundbreaking was its universality,' he explained to People in February 2023. 'NBC initially saw it as a show about an upper-middle class Black family. Mr Cosby diligently impressed upon them that the show was about an upper-middle-class family that happened to be Black.' Celebrity Deaths of 2025: Anne Burrell, Kim Woodburn and More Stars We've Lost This Year Warner went on to say that before The Cosby Show, 'black sitcom humor was predicated on being Black' — and all of that changed with the NBC sitcom. 'Though the Huxtables were clearly Black — reflected quite obviously by their dress, the Black art on the walls, the music — the family issues all were universal,' he told the outlet. 'And though Cliff [Cosby] was a doctor and Claire [Phylicia Rashad] was an attorney, the family dynamic was one that practically every family — no matter the ethnicity, socio-economic status or even family makeup — could find something to relate to.' Warner is survived by his wife and a daughter, whose names he has not chosen to publicly reveal.
