Pakistan closes key border crossing with Afghanistan amid security threats
Pakistan has temporarily closed a key border crossing with Afghanistan due to security threats, until further notice, officials said on Sunday.
The Ghulam Khan border has been closed after Saturday's suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's North Waziristan district and skirmishes in the province, bordering Afghanistan, a senior Pakistani security official said.
'Following the attack, a curfew has been imposed in North Waziristan, and the border has been shut down for an unspecified period,' he said.
At least 13 security personnel were killed and three others injured in the suicide attack.
Abidullah Farooqi, spokesperson for the Interim Afghan Government's Border Forces, confirmed the closure on Sunday, stating that Pakistani authorities have not provided a clear explanation for the move.
'Pakistani officials have merely instructed vehicles at the crossing to use alternative routes,' Farooqi said in a statement.
In a separate press release, the provincial administration of Khost province of Afghanistan said officials at the Ghulam Khan crossing were informed by Pakistani authorities on Saturday evening that the route would be temporarily closed due to ongoing security threats.
The statement further noted that no specific timeline has been provided for the reopening of the border, and the closure will remain in effect until further notice.
The Ghulam Khan crossing, located in Khost province, is a critical trade and transit point between the two countries, particularly for goods travelling to and from Pakistan's North Waziristan region.
Afghan authorities have urged citizens, traders, and travellers to avoid the route and instead use other crossings, such as Torkham or Spin Boldak, until the situation is resolved.

Sinha promises jobs to eligible kin of all Kashmiri civilians killed by terrorists within 30 days
SRINAGAR: An eligible unemployed member of each "unacknowledged" Kashmiri household that lost someone to terrorist bullets over the past three decades will get a govt job within 30 days, J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha promised Sunday during an outreach in south Kashmir's Anantnag involving over 80 such families. Sinha's directive to deputy commissioners to process pending job applications on priority and register FIRs in 'buried' cases of Kashmiri civilians being targeted is part of a broader initiative to reshape the narrative around J&K's 40,000-odd casualties in violence since Pakistan-backed terrorism turned the Valley into a killing field. "It's shocking that prior to 2019, terrorists' funeral processions were allowed while thousands of common Kashmiris killed by terrorists remained unacknowledged," Sinha said at the event, organised by Save Youth, Save Future Foundation. 'For years, truth was kept hidden under pressure from the terror ecosystem.' He said cases against the perpetrators of such killings would be pursued to their logical end, "whether they are in Kashmir or hiding in Pakistan". Sinha also announced that the Union govt would reclaim properties belonging to victims' families that had been encroached upon by "terrorist sympathisers or separatist elements". J&K LG assures jobs, business support to families of terror victims
Srinagar, June 29 (UNI) J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today asked families of terror victims eligible for government jobs to submit their cases to the respective Deputy Commissioners, assuring them of fast-tracked appointments within a month. Sinha met the family members of Kashmiri Civilians killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists in the last three decades during the day. A government spokesman termed it a "historic step" to finally recognise and honour the thousands of innocent civilians in Kashmir who were brutally killed by Pakistani terrorists. The LG bowed to the family members and paid tributes to the common Kashmiri citizens who fell victim to the bullets of Pakistani terrorists. Save Youth, Save Future Foundation, a non-profit organisation is playing a crucial role in documenting the families of terrorism victims. Over 40,000 people, including civilians, security personnel, and even children, have lost their lives to terrorism since 1990. In majority of cases, FIRs were not filed in common Kashmiris' killing by terrorists, the spokesman said. The Lieutenant Governor said Government of India launched this initiative to enable families affected by terrorism to share their pain and expose the conspiracies of the terror ecosystem. 'In cases where FIRs were not registered, directions will be given to register FIRs in those cases. Action will also be taken to free the land and property of terror victims' families encroached by terrorist sympathisers or separatist elements," the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor said that Government of India and security apparatus is committed to bring voices of victims to the forefront and ensure justice. 'I know, for years truth was buried under pressure of terror ecosystem. Now, the families are exposing Pakistan and their supporters inside Kashmir. It will be ensured that the real culprits, whether they are in Jammu and Kashmir or hiding in Pakistan, are given the harshest punishment," the Lieutenant Governor observed. The Lieutenant Governor further said: 'We must expose the people wearing masks in the society. We must break the society's silence and must speak up against those committing atrocities'. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that while India is progressing by leaps and bounds day by day, the neighbouring country, known as the global terror hub and breeding ground for terrorists, is yearning for bread. "Today Pakistan is counted as the biggest beggar in the world and our country has become the fourth largest economy in the world. While our youth today are making a name for themselves in innovation and entrepreneurship, Pakistan is sending its youth to terror training camps. It aims to kill common Kashmiris. But, we have drawn a new line with Operation Sindoor and we will give a befitting response to any misadventure by the enemy," the Lieutenant Governor said. He said under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, all efforts are being made to ensure accelerated inclusive development and security officials are working to ensure that these families receive the justice, recognition, and support they deserve after years of suffering in silence. 'I also assure all the families affected by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism that your culprits will not be spared," the Lieutenant Governor said. More than 80 terror victim families interacted with the Lieutenant Governor and exposed the terrorists and their backers. These families from South Kashmir have been enduring tremendous hardships after losing their family members in barbaric terror acts perpetrated by terror outfits. During the interaction, these families countered decades of false propaganda and Pakistan's role in fuelling terrorism in Kashmir valley. They said a fake and dangerous narrative was promoted, one that portrayed Pakistani terrorists as victims and Indian security forces as aggressors but real victims, common Kashmiris' killed by Pakistan terrorists were ignored and neglected due to influence of separatist outfits and the ecosystem.
