Amazon Sets ‘Spaceballs' Sequel With Rick Moranis & Bill Pullman, Son Lewis Pullman In Talks To Join
The original 1987 movie, directed by Mel Brooks, starred the elder Pullman as Lone Starr, a mercenary and parody of the Star Wars character Han Solo, who teams up with his alien sidekick Barf, played by the late John Candy, to face off against the evil Spaceballs, led by Moranis' Dark Helmet. The film was lauded for not only poking fun at the Star Wars franchise, but other sci-fi staples of the time like Star Trek , 2001: A Space Odyssey and Planet of the Apes .
Directed by Josh Greenbaum ( Strays ), the sequel will also see the return of Brooks as Yogurt, a character poking fun at Star Wars' Yoda, and Daphne Zuniga, who played a parody of Princess Leia named Princess Vespa.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, Lewis Pullman ( Thunderbolts*, Top Gun: Maverick ) is in talks to play a character named Starburst, who is the son of Lone Starr and Vespa. New faces to the franchise include Keke Palmer ( Nope ), who plays a woman named Destiny, and Josh Gad, who also wrote the film's script, with the trio playing the lead roles of the film.
'While the title, plot details, and rest of cast are being kept under wraps, the film has been described by those who have not yet read the script as 'A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two' but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.' said Amazon in a statement describing the upcoming project.
The Spaceballs sequel currently doesn't have a firm release date, but according to Amazon MGM Studios, the film is expected to release sometime in 2027.

That may be reflected in mutant castings, and it'll definitely be felt in the tone and perspective of the film,' Feige said. Feige seems keen to get an early start on the project, with development already underway. Warner Bros. Working On Another Live-Service Game Despite Suicide Squad Flop
Despite losing US$200 million after last year's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League , Warner Bros. Games has apparently not learnt its lesson and is hard at work on another new live-service title based in the DC Comics universe. This comes from a job listing for an executive producer role at WB Games Montréal, with the job scope including overseeing 'all phases of development, from concept to post-launch live operations', and the experience required including a 'deep understanding of the full game development lifecycle, including live services'. While the exact game title was not specified, the post did mention that it will be a 'high-quality AAA game based on one of the iconic IPs from the vast Warner Bros. and DC Comics catalogue.' It seems that despite its recent string of flops, from the aforementioned Suicide Squad , to the recently shut-down MultiVersus and 2022's disappointing Gotham Knights , WB Games has decided that the best course of action to regain the favour lost within its playbase is to double down on the very thing they hate, the dreaded live-service format. This also comes after a studio-wide shake-up late last year, where Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav discussed plans to only focus on four of its major gaming IPs: DC, Hogwarts Legacy , Mortal Kombat , and Game of Thrones , which makes this new live-service game likely to fall under the DC umbrella. This decision to once again stick to the live-service format becomes even more baffling when considering how tough of a time WB Games has it as of late, with Suicide Squad's flop leading to a 41 per cent drop in its gaming revenue last year and a four percent decrease across the studio's entire revenue, which comprises of gaming, TV and cinema. The studio has also seen layoffs and closures in the months that followed, including a team 'restructuring' at Rocksteady in September 2024, and the cancellation of its Wonder Woman game alongside the closure of three studios, Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego in February this year. Will WB Games' insistence on the live-service format somehow work in its favour, or is the studio committing career suicide? Tencent Plays Coy About Copying Sony's Aloy
Tencent raised eyebrows late last year when it released the announcement trailer for Light of Motiram , an open-world survival game where humans use primitive technology to combat giant mechanical beasts. Sound familiar? Well, Sony certainly thought so, as the company is now suing the China-based studio over copyright and trademark infringement against its Horizon video game franchise. As reported by Variety, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a lawsuit on 25 July in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that Light of Motiram is a 'slavish clone' of the Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West video games and requesting statutory damages of US$150,000 for each separate work in the Horizon franchise infringed. In addition, PlayStation is looking to prevent the game's release, stating that 'Tencent's copying of Horizon is so blatant that the public has described it as 'crazy,' 'insane,' and 'shameless.' Tencent also used its rip-off of the iconic Horizon main character, Aloy, as the centrepiece of its pre-release marketing and promotional strategy, deliberately causing numerous game lovers to confuse Light of Motiram as the next game in the Horizon series when encountering Tencent's promotional gameplay videos and social media accounts.' Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) According to further reports by The Wrap, Sony also stated that Tencent attempted to pitch its own version of Horizon in hopes of sealing a collaboration, and despite Sony rejecting the offer, Tencent moved forward with its plans anyway. Representatives for Tencent did not respond to either Variety or The Wrap's request for comments. From looking at the game's trailer alone, it's easy to see just how similar Light of Motiram is to Sony's popular adventure franchise, as apart from the obvious use of the same core man-versus-machine concepts, the upcoming game also features a post-apocalyptic setting, and a tribal protagonist that wields a bow alongside melee weapons to target specific parts of an enemies body, as well as the ability to ride mechanical horses, 'train' mechanical beasts, and use ariel gliders, making it seem far more than just mere inspiration. Light of Motiram To be fair, Tencent's title does feature unique mechanics that differentiate it from Sony's franchise, such as a focus on crafting structures like what appear to be energy pylons and turrets for base defence, hinting at a strong focus on base building and tower defence, alongside a bigger emphasis on multiplayer co-op gameplay. Still, the similarities between the two games are just too obvious for Sony to ignore, and only time will tell how the lawsuit plays out, and if there's trouble on Light of Motiram's horizon.
