Naroden: PBB power struggle claims seek to undermine party unity, leadership
GEDONG (July 21): Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais has dismissed a news portal's recent report claiming a power struggle within Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and the state leadership, calling it 'unfounded and irresponsible'.
The Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred) advisor in a statement yesterday said such claim appears to be an attempt to stir unrest within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and its backbone party PBB.
'These allegations are baseless and seem to be aimed at undermining the harmony and unity among the leadership of PBB,' he said.
He stressed that there has never been any discussion or statement from any state leaders—whether among assemblymen or Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg himself—indicating any push for a leadership transition as alleged by certain quarters.
'I meet Abang Johari two to three times a month to discuss the needs and development of Gedong and as Mintred advisor, I also frequently engage with Deputy Premier and Mintred Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan on issues related to entrepreneurship and industrial development.
'I see both these leaders as strong, capable individuals who command full support from the state cabinet. 'Team Abang Jo' is functioning excellently, which not only instils pride among Sarawakians but also reflects a positive image for Malaysia as a whole,' he said.
Hence, Mohd Naroden said there was no reason to question PBB's internal decisions as the party leadership has consistently demonstrated commitment and impressive achievements.
'There is absolutely no need to pressure for any leadership change. As proud Sarawakians, we all want to see our state continue to thrive under a proven and capable leadership.'

KUCHING: The core elements of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) are aligned with Sarawak's goals of accelerating growth under its post-Covid development strategy, says the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). "We hope the Dayak business community will actively look for and participate in business opportunities generated by new industries from these energy hubs," he said. As an indigenous business chamber, DCCI also supported the strengthening of socioeconomic development for Sarawak's bumiputra community under the 13MP. This includes expanding business opportunities through the provision of commercial premises, access to financing, entrepreneurship training and mentoring programmes to Sarawak bumiputra entrepreneurs. "In this connection, we urge the government to ensure that access to these business opportunities reaches the targeted group and benefits them. 'A multi-faceted approach involving government initiatives, dedicated programmes and structural support is crucial," Libat said. He proposed the implementation of outreach strategies to identify and engage potential bumiputra entrepreneurs, particularly in Sarawak's rural areas, as well as monitoring and evaluation of programmes to benefit them. "Skills training programmes for rural communities must be intensified so that economic growth can be shared inclusively," he added. Libat also said the 13MP's focus on basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, electricity and digitalisation initiatives was timely and much needed to balance development between urban and rural areas. "Improved road connectivity is a game-changer for rural development in Sarawak, promising substantial economic and social benefits," he said.

Sarawak pays tribute to national heroes during Warriors' Day ceremony

A Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the event at the Heroes Monument in Taman Budaya here on behalf of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. In his speech, Abang Johari said Sarawakians must realise that the peace and prosperity experienced today were not achieved overnight but through long and continuous struggle. 'The privileges we enjoy today came at the cost of great sacrifices by the nation's warriors. It took tremendous effort and the ultimate sacrifice by our heroes to defend every inch of our beloved land and their blood, sweat and hardship laid the foundation for the peace we enjoy today,' said the Premier. He said Warriors' Day serves as a symbol of appreciation and remembrance for those who fought to uphold the nation's sovereignty, from the pre-independence era through to the present day. 'Symbolically, this day reminds us of the courage of those who stood firm against threats to our sovereignty and their sacrifices must be remembered for all time, as they shaped the civilisation we live in today,' he said. Call for MA63 Implementation Bill to safeguard Sarawak's rights

MIRI (July 31): The Sarawak government should consider drafting and tabling a Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Bill to ensure a legally binding and auditable timeline for the execution of Sarawak's right under the agreement, said Datuk Wan Zain Tuanku Mohdzar. Chairman of the Persatuan Anak Sarawak Melaka (PASM) said the proposed legislation is crucial as the current implementation of MA63 remains independent of political negotiations, which are not enforceable under law. He also proposed the establishment of an independent commission to monitor the implementation process, alongside clearer provisions linking state powers to the Ninth Schedule of the Federal Constitution, which affirms Sarawak's control over its natural resources. 'This was one of the several proposals highlighted during the recent Bicara Rakyat session held in conjunction with Sarawak Day at Rumah Sarawak in Kuala Lumpur,' he said in a statement to The Borneo Post. Wan Zain warned that without an Act of Parliament, any future changes in the Federal government could potentially derail or ignore MA63 commitments. On the recent approval of 17 new seats in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, he said it was timely to revisit the original intent of MA63, while envisaging Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore collectively holding one-third of parliamentary seats to serve as a check-and-balance mechanism. 'However, following Singapore's exit and several skewed redelineation exercises, Sabah and Sarawak now hold only around 25 per cent of parliamentary seats, far from what was originally intended,' he stressed. As such, he urged the federal government and Election Commission (EC) to initiate a redelineation exercise to restore Sabah and Sarawak's representation in Parliament to at least 33.4 per cent. 'This is vital to ensure any future amendments to the Federal Constitution do not sideline the rights of Borneo states,' he added. Wan Zain also proposed the creation of Sarawak Diaspora Council for Peninsular Malaysia under the administration of Rumah Sarawak to cater to the needs of tens of thousands of Sarawakians currently residing in the peninsular for work, education, or marriages. 'Sarawak's population exceeds 2.5 million, and a significant number live in Peninsular Malaysia, yet there is no structured body to coordinate their needs or keep them connected to their home state.' He suggested the council be empowered to register Sarawakians living in the peninsula, offer welfare and educational support, provide policy advocacy, and promote Sarawak culture and identity through regular outreach programmes.
