Expo City Dubai Foundation launches Changemakers Academy to support aspiring young innovators
Young entrepreneurs to submit innovative ideas to secure funding, strategic support
Intensive training engages and empowers youth and reaffirms UAE as innovation hub
DUBAI – Expo City Dubai Foundation has launched the Changemakers Academy – an innovation and entrepreneurship incubator for young innovators that will incentivise creative problem-solving and unearth bold solutions to social and environmental challenges relevant to the UAE.
With an open call for applications from final-year students and fresh graduates of UAE-based universities, the intensive, multi-stage programme supports the UAE Year of Community by inspiring and equipping the next generation to act and channelling their creativity and passion into developing real-world solutions.
The Changemakers Academy offers a structured incubation journey with rigorous training and practical support, with the final selected projects receiving grants of up to AED 50,000, mentorship, investor introductions and help with business setup, including licence, visa and a workspace at Expo City Dubai. The programme represents an exceptional opportunity for ambitious young entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into commercially viable businesses.
Yousuf Caires, Executive Director, Expo City Dubai Foundation, said: 'Our innovation programmes throughout Expo 2020 Dubai and COP28 have demonstrated the tremendous potential of UAE youth, which Expo City stands ready to champion as a hub for pioneers and groundbreaking solutions. The Changemakers Academy aims to incentivise the best young minds to come up with solutions to challenges that are particularly pertinent to the UAE, to nurture and develop these ideas into marketable, successful businesses and drive positive, tangible change in the community.'
Priority areas were chosen in consultation with Dubai's Community Development Authority (CDA), and include opportunities to improve traffic congestion, mental wellbeing and work-life balance, as well as environmental responsibility and better inclusion for people of determination and the elderly.
Students must submit their applications by end-March, after which selected projects will be invited to a 'bootcamp' to help refine their ideas. Shortlisted projects will advance to the Accelerated Incubation Programme where they will participate in AI-based design-thinking training covering ideation, prototyping, digital skills and certification. The concluding pitching sessions and final selection will take place in June 2025.
The Changemakers Academy takes forward the previous Expo Live University Innovation Programme, which received more than 1,000 applications from 40-plus universities across the UAE and supported 58 student teams. It is part of the Expo City Dubai Foundation, a non-profit organisation launched in June 2024 to bridge the gap between people, ideas and resources, driving innovation and collaboration to deliver positive social, economic and environmental change.
Already home to future-focused entities such as Emirates Group's ebdaa innovation hub and the Expo City Urban Lab – a city-wide testbed dedicated to piloting urban development technologies – Expo City is a haven for pioneers, entrepreneurs and innovators who believe in its mission to create a better future for people and planet, supporting sectors driving the delivery of Dubai's Economic Agenda (D33).

Once completed, the network will provide a safe, sustainable, and advanced mode of transportation for citizens, residents, and visitors. Passenger trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h and are expected to accommodate up to 400 passengers per trip. By 2030, the system is projected to carry 36.5 million passengers annually. The first four passenger stations will be located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, with further expansion planned across the network. These strategically located hubs aim to reduce travel time, improve accessibility, and boost social and economic ties between communities. Iraq's PM launches gas power plant
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani launched on Saturday the construction works for the first phase of the Second Beiji Gas Power Plant in Salah al-Din Province, with a total capacity of 1,014 megawatts. The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted a statement from the Media Office of the Prime Minister, in which Al-Sudani commended the efforts made to prepare for the launch of this vital project, affirming that the energy sector is a cornerstone of any comprehensive development plan. He explained that the government has allocated the necessary financial resources to develop all sectors of electricity—generation, transmission, and distribution—in order to improve energy production across all regions of the country. The project will be implemented by a consortium of Siemens Energy (Germany) and CSCEC (China). The contract includes the rehabilitation of six Siemens gas generation units, each with a capacity of 169 megawatts, for a total capacity of 1,014 megawatts. It also includes the establishment of a load dispatching network consisting of seven circuits at 400 kilovolts, which will feed six lines into the national grid, as well as the construction of a new 132-kilovolt network comprising 16 lines to serve Salah al-Din Province. The first two units are scheduled to be operational within 27 months, followed by the remaining units at a rate of one unit every two months. In April, Mohammed Al-Sudani laid the foundation stone for a giant power plant in the southern Iraqi province of Dhi Qar. With a planned capacity of around 921 megawatts, the new power plant will run on natural gas, with the potential to eventually implement hydrogen mixing technology. The project, which is being carried out by German-based Siemens next to the Nasiriyah Thermal Power Station, is a significant project that will raise the standard of energy supply in Iraq's national grid. The extension aims to give taxpayers more time to ensure accurate filing and full compliance with tax regulations. Non-Resident Indians most commonly file for ITR-2, of all the types. Below is a step-by-step guide on how you can file your ITR online. This process begins after you've completed the pre-filing stage, where you're required to enter all relevant income and tax-related information. 1. Log in to the e-Filing portal Visit the official e-Filing portal and log in using your PAN (as User ID), password, and captcha code. 2. Begin the Filing Process Once logged in, go to your dashboard and navigate to: e-File > Income Tax Returns > File Income Tax Return If your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, a warning message will pop up indicating that your PAN is inoperative. You can either click 'Link Now' to link it immediately or proceed (not recommended). 3. Choose the assessment year Select Assessment Year 2024–25 and click 'Continue'. 4. Select mode of filing Choose 'Online' as your preferred mode and proceed. If you've started a return previously, you'll see the option to 'Resume Filing'. To discard the existing draft and begin anew, click 'Start New Filing'. 5. Specify your filing status Choose the category that applies to you: Individual, HUF, or Others. Click 'Continue'. 6.
