Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Netflix Deal Isn't Being Renewed
This morning, a Hollywood insider confirmed to People that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 2020 Netflix deal, worth a reported $100 million, isn't being renewed when their contract ends in September. The source said it reflects a 'shift in Netflix's broader business strategy.'
People noted that The Sun was the first to report the news. The British tabloid wrote that the decision was mutual. The couple had three major projects with the streamer: their documentary series Harry & Meghan, Meghan's lifestyle show With Love, Meghan, and Harry's polo documentary series Polo. Harry & Meghan became Netflix's highest-viewed documentary when it premiered, with over 28 million households watching the first part in December 2022.
Harry and Meghan's other two projects had fewer views. The first season of Meghan's lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, has had 5.3 million views so far, according to Netflix's July 17 Engagement Report, which tracks content performance for the first half of 2025. It ranked 383rd on the list of most watched programming.
Harry's series Polo, which came out in December, was much further down in 3,436th place with 500,000 views.
A source told The Sun that as Meghan, Harry, and Netflix part ways, 'there's no animosity from either side. Things have just run their course.'
The insider explained, 'The deal is done; no more shows will be made. Netflix feel they've got all they can from the couple. Netflix were clever in that they got a hell of a lot of viewers for the first documentary series [Harry & Meghan], and knew, realistically, it would prove the zenith of content from the Montecito pair. They're not unhappy with how things turned out—they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time.'
Netflix and Meghan will do more business together, however: The streaming company will air the second season of With Love, Meghan this fall. Netflix has also partnered with her on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which has consistently sold out whenever Meghan releases new product drops.

Royal Porthcawl member Darcey Harry shines with a man who led the British Open on her bag
Welsh player Darcey Harry isn't just the home favorite at the AIG Women's British Open. She's a member at Royal Porthcawl, though she's never seen the venerable club quite like this. "It doesn't really feel like it's at home because there's so many people here and usually Porthcawl is very quiet," said Harrry. And that comment to the press came before Harry teed it up in competition. The 22-year-old LET rookie stormed to victory at the Hulencourt Women's Open in Belgium last month to play her way into what's being billed as the largest women's sporting event ever held in Wales. "I was really nervous. I'm not too sure really how I coped with it," said Harry, who opened with a 2-under 70 to trail by three. "I just tried not to look elsewhere and just keep concentrated on the golf ball and my caddie." Harry's caddie is her boyfriend, Jacob Skov Olesen, a DP World Tour rookie who co-led the men's British Open earlier this month at Royal Portrush. The Dane was also on the bag for her win in Belgium. "I need someone on the bag that's going to make me laugh and take my mind off more of the distractions," said Harry, who became a member at Porthcawl six years ago. This is the first competition she's ever played at the historic club. "I don't think I've ever had a card in hand playing here," she said ahead of the championship. "Usually when I come out, I just play nine holes. I never really come out and play 18. If I do, it's probably with my dad, just walking around, having a bit of a piss about." Olesen said he met Harry for the time around five months ago, and it remains the only round of golf they've played together. They've been dating now for two months and mainly see each other at events. Harry, for example, was in Northern Ireland for Olesen's hot start. Olesen noted that Harry's iron play is typically her strength, though right now everything about her game feels quite rounded. As for friendly competitions between the two, Olesen said, "We tied the only match we played, so no one has the upper hand. I guess she does, a little bit, having a win." Harry made her major championship debut earlier this month at the Amundi Evian and was excited for the opportunity to play alongside 2018 British Open winner Georgia Hall in the first two rounds in Wales. "I was only a junior at the time when Georgia won a few years ago," said Harry. "It was so inspirational seeing her do it. The whole country was so excited when a British player won."

Chad Michael Murray on Possible 'One Tree Hill' Reboot
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Chad Michael Murray, who played Lucas on the 2000s drama One Tree Hill, told Newsweek that a reboot could give today's teens a show to relate to as they navigate the "current trials and tribulations of being a high school kid" in the age of social media. The 43-year-old actor sat down with Newsweek this week discuss Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel of Freaky Friday, his journey with mental health, reflections on his career, and the passion that continues to fuel his love for acting. What To Know Murray laughed when asked about the rumored reboot of One Tree Hill, telling Newsweek: "I don't have an answer for you." Newsweek has reached out to Netflix for comment via email. He did, however, speak to the value that a reboot might add, especially for today's younger generation. "The only thing I can say is that if they do a reboot, I think it would be really cool for the younger generation to have a show that they can identify with that deals with the current trials and tribulations of being a high school kid because, holy crap, like wow," he said. "I'm so grateful that I didn't grow up in the time of social media." Actor Chad Michael Murray speaks at the Newsweek office in Manhattan on July 29, 2025. Actor Chad Michael Murray speaks at the Newsweek office in Manhattan on July 29, 2025. Hellen Elizondo for Newsweek Murray continued by noting the difficulties of coming of age in the digital era. "I mean you screw up once and everybody in the school talks about it for the entire longevity of your career and then you get out and you aren't able to get away from it, so I hope there is a show out there that focuses on kids dealing with the current world," he said. The actor has repeatedly said he makes movies to offer audiences a brief escape from the various stresses of life, telling Newsweek that he wanted to become an actor in the first place to "make people happy." Austin Nichols, who played Julian Baker in the series, recently told People that while he doesn't know all the details about a potential reboot, "they made a deal with Netflix and they're working on the scripts." The show ran for nine seasons between 2003 and 2012. Nichols added: "I know there's been some notes going back and forth, so it's in a really good place. It's in a healthy place." Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis in the series, talked about reports of the reboot with ComingSoon, saying in June that "the pre-production stuff is tricky, but development is going very well. We'll see where we wind up." Deadline reported in 2024 that the reboot is in development. During Murray's conversation with Newsweek, he said that at times the One Tree Hill set was "an unhealthy environment for everybody. It was not a great set to be on," noting that while there were "some great people, some great actors," there was minimal leadership. Chad Michael Murray on Freakier Friday "Dare I say, it might be better than the first," said Murray, who reprises his role as Jake in the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 comedy Freaky Friday, which also sees the return of original stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. "It really genuinely is hysterical," he said about the upcoming film, joking that "it will make you live longer," adding that it is "going to lower your cortisol" and put the view on "cloud nine." Freakier Friday premieres on August 8.

Rupert Everett spent ‘two weeks' in bed after being ‘fired' from ‘Emily in Paris': ‘I couldn't get over it'
Sacré bleu! Rupert Everett, 66, told Vanity Fair that he won't be in the next season of 'Emily in Paris' because he was 'fired' without explanation. 'For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn't get over it,' he said in an interview published on Tuesday. 8 Lily Collins in 'Emily In Paris.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 'I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, 'Next year we'll speak,'' he claimed. 'I waited for them to call me — but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me. Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you — but then things change, and they lose your character. I don't know why.' While Everett repeatedly claimed he was fired from the Netflix show, a production source told Vanity Fair that he 'was hired as a guest star, and his character's story came to a conclusion.' The Post reached out to Netflix for comment. 8 Rupert Everett in 'Emily In Paris.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 8 Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, Lily Collins, Bruno Gouery, Rupert Everett in 'Emily In Paris.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection The 'My Best Friend's Wedding' actor was in the Season 4 finale of 'Emily in Paris,' playing interior designer Giorgio Barbieri. He was only in one episode, in which he starred as an old friend of Emily's (Lily Collins) boss, Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu). If Everett is in need of another role, his 'My Best Friend's Wedding' co-star, Dermot Mulroney, recently told the Post that 'there is talk' of a sequel to the classic '90s Julia Roberts rom-com. This isn't the first time an 'Emily in Paris' actor has spoken out negatively about the show. The series premiered in 2020 and was reportedly seen by 58 million households that year. 'Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?' he asked. He added, 'I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration.' Despite his words, Bravo is set to return for Season 5, which will premiere at an unannounced date on Netflix.
