ONE person has reportedly died after being sucked into a plane engine on an airport runway in Milan.
Operations at the busy Orio al Serio Airport, also known as Milano Bergamo, came to a halt at 10.20am after a "fatal accident" on the tarmac.

According to Corriere della Sera, the victim was not a passenger or airport staff member.
The person believed to have run onto the tarmac and into the path of an aircraft that was taxing for takeoff, the Italian paper reported.
Airport sources told the outlet that the person was pulled into the aircraft engine in a horrifying moment just as the plane was preparing to depart.
The airline involved has not yet been named.
Airport operator SACBO confirmed a 'problem that occurred on the taxiway' and said 'the causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities.'
Flight operations at Orio al Serio have been suspended since the moment of the incident, with a cascading effect on travel across the region.
By 11.50am local time, a total of nine flights had already been diverted - one to Bologna, two to Verona, and six rerouted to Milan Malpensa.
Eight departures were also cancelled outriught.
The last flight to take off, a Volotea service to Asturias, left at 10.20am.
It is not yet known when operations at Bergamo Aiport will return to normal.
The airport's official X account confirmed the halt in operations: 'SACBO announces that flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport were suspended at 10:20 am due to a problem that occurred on the taxiway. The causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities.'
The area remains cordoned off as authorities work to determine how the man was able to breach security and get so close to a moving aircraft.

These twin tragedies followed two other at the Ibiza Rocks resort, including a 33-year-old British woman who died on April 30, and a female Italian tourist, 19, who fell from a balcony just three days earlier. In the wake of these heartbreaking events, Ibiza Rocks had declared a suspension of all festivities. The hotel expressed its sorrow with the words: "We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred." They continued: "Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. "The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time." Yet, despite these assurances, tickets for upcoming events, including this Saturday's LoveJuice Ibiza Day Party, are still up for grabs online. Ibiza Rocks is asking punters to pay £17.35 for standard entry and £26 for a Daylife pass, which includes a food and drink voucher. The hotel is gearing up for its RandB Affair Day Party this Sunday, tipped to be the island's most epic RandB bash, with entry fees matching those of the previous day's festivities. Dizzee Rascal was scheduled to play at the hotel yesterday as part of the venue's '20th birthday celebrations' but that was postponed. However, Rudimental are still set to perform on July 30 for the anniversary, with tickets still available to purchase online. In the wake of Evan's tragic passing, his family and friends have raised serious concerns about the hotel's safety measures, criticising the establishment's handling of the incident. Evan's mate Blair Robertson blasted the hotel for their eagerness to 'get things back to normal' after the tragedy, reports the Daily Record. He recounted: "Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn't arrive for about 30 minutes. Forensic officers didn't speak English. We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope. "We heard the jet washes cleaning the ground where Evan died. That was the worst thing for us". Evan's sister Teila also called for 'higher safety precautions', stating: "Once it did happen, the hotel's response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this." Following the recent fatalities, Ibiza Rocks shared a safety message on their social media, expressing that their thoughts 'remained with the families' of Evan and Gary. They wrote: "The tragic incidents of the past few weeks have deeply affected many. We continue to work closely with the authorities, and our thoughts and support remain with everyone impacted. "Much of the hard work that goes into safety and security in hotels and venues across the world happens behind the scenes. With thousands of guests passing through our doors every summer, it takes a collective effort from our team, security and local partners to maximise safety for all. "In times like these, care matters - but so does action. We have zero tolerance for any behaviour that puts our guests or our team at risk and we are building on the strong work we already do to go even further. "Out of respect and privacy for the people involved, we don't usually comment on individual reports posted online, but that certainly doesn't mean we're not always listening. We're committed to working with anyone who raises solid concerns so that we can establish the facts and take the appropriate steps. "Our hotel remains open and more information on a future events programme will be shared as soon as possible." On the topic of balcony safety, the hotel added: "Balcony safety is something we take very seriously, and our hotel meets all the applicable building regulations. "Alongside that, we're introducing further safety measures and working to raise more guest awareness to help encourage responsible use and keep everyone safe."

Pembroke man jailed for sexually abusing step-daughter
The man – who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim – appeared at Swansea Crown Court charged with sexual activity with a child. Prosecutor Helen Randall told the court that the man had been giving his step-daughter – who was 17 at the time – cocaine 'three to four times a week' in mid-2021. The defendant, then aged 45, and the girl were taking cocaine together on June 5, 2021. Ms Randall said that, despite the victim protesting and trying to push him away, the man took her clothes off, sexually assaulted her, and then masturbated himself. The court heard the defendant replied 'Sorry x' when the victim messaged him about the incident. The victim disclosed what happened to her partner on June 10, but the police weren't contacted until she told family members in January this year. The defendant was arrested shortly afterwards. 'It has left me traumatised,' the victim said in a statement read out by Ms Randall. 'I wish it would stop and get better.' She added: 'I want to be more than just an abuse victim.' The defendant, now 49, initially denied the offences, but on the day of trial pleaded guilty to two offences of sexual activity with a child. The court heard he was previously of good character. Jon Tarrant, in mitigation, said the defendant 'came to his senses' and pled guilty, but this plea had possibly been delayed due to the social impact and psychological impact of accepting what he had done. 'There was a fair degree of emotional turbulence going on in his life,' he said. 'It was wholly inappropriate and wholly wrong. 'He accepts he must face direct and immediate prison for that.' Judge Huw Rees described the defendant's offending as 'vile', and added that it was 'deplorable' that he had been plying a 17-year-old with cocaine in order to commit the offence. The defendant was jailed for six years and four months. He must register as a sex offender for life, and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely. Judge Rees praised the victim's character in overcoming what the defendant had done to her, and granted her a life-long restraining order.

The 70-year-old who was once "independent" and "always had a smile" is now unable to feed herself. Both Monks and Pilling appeared at Bolton Crown Court yesterday. "She suffered life-changing injuries and spent weeks in a coma - it's nothing short of miraculous that she survived. "This incident highlights the severe consequences of operating e-bikes illegally on our roads. "These aren't toys - they're powerful vehicles that require proper licensing, safety equipment, and responsible handling. "Riding without these essentials isn't just breaking the law - it's putting lives at risk. "At GMP we're committed to reducing serious and fatal collisions across our region. "We actively support national road safety initiatives like the Fatal 4 campaign, targeting the four main causes of serious road incidents: speeding, using mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts, and driving under the influence. "Road safety is everyone's responsibility, and the consequences of ignoring this can be truly catastrophic." The problem of nuisance driving has become so bad that some forces have launched dedicated operations to combat it. Operation Vulcan in Oldham has been targeting e-bikes, four of which were seized after their drivers were arrested for drug supply. National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Roads Policing, Chief Constable Jo Shiner, said: 'Anti-social use of a vehicle, such as street racing, street cruising or off-road use is more than a matter of noise pollution. 'It can have long-term effects on a neighbourhood, with the criminal damage of roads, other vehicles and surrounding property.'
