Portuguese business delegation to visit Kuwait this month
Ambassador Al-Hazeem told KUNA that the Kuwaiti embassy in Lisbon, in collaboration with the Arab-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, the Portuguese Industries Federation, and the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organized the visit. The initiative reflects both nations' mutual desire to boost their economic and trade connections. It also aligns with the embassy's ongoing efforts to create new communication channels and open broader avenues for cooperation, showcasing Kuwait's major development projects and its achievements across various sectors.
The ambassador emphasized that this initiative is central to the mission of the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission and is fully supported by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which views such efforts as pivotal in elevating bilateral relations with Portugal.
In a similar statement to KUNA, Dr. Luis Felipe Menezes, President of the Arab-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, explained that the visit would include business meetings with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as interactions with local authorities and businessmen. Dr. Menezes described the initiative as a key step toward strengthening economic, trade, and cultural ties between the two nations. He expressed his gratitude for the support and continuous efforts of Ambassador Al-Hazeem in deepening cooperation.
The Portuguese mission will comprise more than 12 companies from various sectors, including civil construction, cybersecurity, tourism, security services, and legal consultations.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Portugal. In 2023, Kuwait hosted the first round of Kuwaiti-Portuguese political consultations, aimed at strengthening cooperation and enhancing ties in various areas.

The blue color palette was chosen to reflect the 'Kuwait Blue', enhancing the local and national identity of the league. Zain affirmed that this brand refresh is part of its extended strategic partnership with the Kuwait Football Association for the 2022–2026 seasons. The agreement includes official sponsorship of the Zain Premier League (Dawri Zain), First Division League, HH the Amir's Cup, and HH the Crown Prince's Cup. Recently, Zain also celebrated the crowning of Kuwait SC as champions of Dawri Zain for the 20th time in its history. The season witnessed intense competition and remarkable performances by players and clubs, drawing large crowds of enthusiastic fans. Marking the anniversary of Iraq's 1990 invasion, Kuwait remembers the pain of occupation and the unshakable spirit of its resistance fighters - men and nwomen who gave everything to protect their homeland By Mahmoud Zakaria On the morning of August 2, 1990, the small but proud nation of Kuwait was shaken to its core. In a swift and brutal invasion, Iraqi forces stormed across the border, seizing Kuwait City within hours and declaring the country Iraq's 19th province. What followed was one of the darkest chapters in Kuwait's history — a seven-month-long occupation marked by widespread human rights violations. During the occupation, the Iraqi regime launched a systematic campaign of terror. Acts of looting, torture, rape and extrajudicial killings became rampant. Despite the official declaration of the death penalty for looters, Iraqi troops plundered Kuwait's most valuable assets. Medical equipment was stripped from hospitals, scientific data and equipment from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research were stolen, and treasures of Islamic art disappeared from the Kuwait National Museum. An estimated $1.6 billion in gold and cash was looted from the Central Bank and transported to Baghdad. Bayt Al-Qurain, the house that witnessed the fall of many Kuwaiti resistance fighters. Even as rumors — some later proven false — circulated about horrific acts in hospitals, the overwhelming evidence of Iraqi brutality remains irrefutable. But from the ashes of occupation rose the unyielding spirit of a people determined to fight for their homeland. The Kuwaiti resistance movement emerged almost immediately, displaying remarkable courage and unity in the face of overwhelming odds. Men and women, young and old, stepped forward with a single goal: To defend their land and preserve their national identity. Many Kuwaitis today regard women as the backbone of the resistance. Their contributions were invaluable - not only did they carry weapons and forge identification documents, but they also played critical roles in organizing, planning, and maintaining secret operations that kept the resistance alive. Among the most revered female martyrs are Wafaa Al-Amer and Asrar Al-Qabandi, whose names have become symbols of sacrifice and patriotism. The news of the invasion of Kuwait tops the front page of a newspaper in St Cloud, Minnesota. One of the most iconic moments in the resistance was the Battle of Al-Qurain. In a fierce engagement that lasted nearly 12 hours, a group of Kuwaiti resistance fighters clashed with Iraqi forces in the Qurain district. Despite being vastly outgunned, the fighters held their ground from early morning until evening. Heroes such as Sayed Alawi, Amer Al-Enezi and others laid down their lives in a desperate but valiant stand. Their martyrdom is etched into the national memory as a testament to Kuwaiti courage. The occupation finally ended in February 1991. But Kuwait's story of survival and resistance endures - retold each year not just to remember the pain, but to honor the extraordinary bravery of ordinary people. Thirty-five years later, those days still shake the memory. But more than fear or loss, what remains is pride. A pride rooted in sacrifice, resilience and an unbreakable national spirit that stood tall even when the world around it fell apart. The legacy of the 1990 invasion is not just one of loss - it is also one of unmatched resilience and loyalty. The Kuwaiti people stood behind their leadership and never wavered in their commitment to their homeland. The stories of sacrifice, particularly of Kuwait's brave martyrs, continue to inspire generations. Their blood was the price paid for freedom - a reminder that patriotism is not just a word, but a responsibility. Today, Kuwait honors its heroes not only through remembrance, but through the values of unity, perseverance and national pride that continue to guide the nation forward.

InvestGB celebrates interns on Intern Day
As part of bank's ongoing efforts to empower youth and local talent KUWAIT: Gulf Capital Investment Company, InvestGB, the investment arm of Gulf Bank, celebrated Intern Day, a global occasion recognizing the contributions of interns; highlighting the success of its Internship Program and reinforcing its ongoing commitment to empowering Kuwaiti youth, fostering local talent, and building a strong and capable workforce. During the Intern Day Event held at InvestGB's headquarters at Al-Hamra Business Tower, interns participated in a variety of impactful activities, including networking sessions with InvestGB and Gulf Bank leadership teams, and InvestGB's senior management team. These interactive sessions provided interns the opportunity to share their insights, engage in numerous discussions, and receive valuable career tips and mentorship from InvestGB and Gulf Bank employees. Al-Muzaini continued: 'As part of the third edition of the internship program for 2025, 33 interns between the ages of 17 and 25 were selected, with a demographic split of 48 percent female and 52 percent male. The program offers hands-on training, real-world exposure, and skill development to help students navigate an evolving job market with confidence and capability. Al-Muzaini noted that InvestGB's culture is deeply rooted in inclusion, national development, and investment in human capital, whether employees or interns. Women represent 43 percent of the company's workforce, while Kuwaitization stands at 70 percent of the total team. She emphasized InvestGB's commitment to strengthening its role in the private sector by supporting and developing national talent. Through training programs and other institutional initiatives, the company continues to contribute to the sustainable growth of the Kuwaiti economy by empowering the next generation of professionals.
