Amit Shah calls for nationwide expansion of cooperative movement based on 'five Ps'
Inaugurating various development works of the world-renowned Amul Dairy, Shah called for expanding the cooperative movement nationwide based on the five Ps - People, PACS, Platform, Policy, and Prosperity, said a release from the Gujarat CMO.
Shah stated that the convergence of the fourth anniversary of the Ministry of Cooperation, the 60th anniversary of the National Dairy Development Board, and the 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Patel has led to numerous initiatives in Anand through this cooperative conference. The Ministry of Cooperation has been working over the past four years on the foundation of the five Ps - People (service-oriented), PACS (strengthening Primary Agricultural Credit Societies), Platform (digital platform), Policy (new policies), and Prosperity (societal prosperity). Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scope of cooperative activities has been expanding.
Union Home and CM Patel jointly inaugurated Amul Dairy's extension plants for chocolate, milk, curd, and mozzarella cheese. Additionally, they inaugurated the Maniben Patel Bhavan at the NDDB headquarters. The foundation stone of the national organization of milk cooperative societies was also laid by both dignitaries. They unveiled the logo and presented the registration certificate for the Sardar Patel Cooperative Milk Federation. Furthermore, the registration certificate for the Kutch Salt Producers Cooperative Society, initiated with the noble intent of involving salt workers from the Rann of Kutch in the cooperative movement, was also handed over.
Using Amul Dairy as an example, he mentioned that 36 lakh women from Gujarat and 20 lakh from other parts of India, a total of 56 lakh women, generate an annual turnover of Rs 80,000 crore through milk production. This is expected to rise to Rs1 lakh crore next year, with the profit directly benefiting these 56 lakh women engaged in cooperative activities.
Highlighting the achievements of the cooperative sector during the conference, he noted that the tradition of cooperation dates back to Vedic times. Our cooperative culture of dining, working, thinking, and living together has been given legal status by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation in 2021.
Over 31 crore members are associated with more than 8.40 lakh cooperative societies. These societies are contributing to the nation's economic development in areas such as milk, banking, sugar mills, and digital payments. More than 60 initiatives have been launched in the four years of this ministry, said the release.
Amit Shah appealed to cooperative leaders to adopt three key principles: transparency, adoption of technology, and member-centric functioning. He stressed that cooperation cannot be sustained long-term without these elements. This spirit of cooperation should reach every village from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Dwarka to Kamakhya. In many countries, cooperative activities have failed due to a lack of transparency.
He paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 124th birth anniversary, saying that Dr. Mookerjee played a crucial role in integrating West Bengal with India and making Kashmir an inseparable part of the nation.
He sacrificed his life with the slogan, 'There cannot be two constitutions, two flags, and two prime ministers in one country.' He had resigned from Pandit Nehru's cabinet and founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which today, with 12 crore members, is the world's largest political party.
He congratulated all involved in launching Amul, NDDB, and the Kutch Salt Cooperative Society, noting that this initiative would be a major success for salt-producing farmers. He also expressed his resolve to strengthen India's cooperative sector and set an example for the world.
Expressing pride in the achievements of Gujarat's cooperative sector, the Chief Minister stated that Gujarat led the non-cooperation movement during the freedom struggle and is now at the forefront of cooperation. The state's cooperative sector has a turnover of Rs 4 lakh crore, over 27 lakh new bank accounts have been opened, and deposits exceeding Rs 12,000 crore have been collected. Daily milk collection reaches 325 lakh liters, and women-led milk societies have increased by 21 percent with a 43 percent rise in their income.
He added that under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, gram panchayats across the country are being integrated with the cooperative movement. Over two lakh PACS have energized the rural economy, now offering services like petrol pumps, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, water projects, and digital payments. In the cooperative banking sector, digitalization has brought modern banking services to villages. Through the e-Cooperative portal, the state government has enabled online registration, audits, and reporting for societies, enhancing transparency and efficiency.
The Chief Minister lauded the four years of success of the Ministry of Cooperation established under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated Union Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah for realizing the vision of 'Sahkhar Thi Samrudhhi.' He stated that the ministry has significantly contributed to strengthening the rural economy and connecting farmers, animal husbandry, and women to cooperative activities, which has become a new model of development for the nation.
The year 2025 is celebrated as the International Year of Cooperatives, and the Chief Minister mentioned that India will become a global example of the cooperative model. He further added that under the guidance of Amit Shah, the foundation stone of the country's first Tribhuvan Sahkari University has been laid, which will develop skilled human resources for the cooperative sector. The innovative projects of NDDB and Amul will elevate Gujarat's dairy, agriculture, and animal husbandry sectors to new heights. The mantra of ' Sahakar Thi Samruddhi ' will be realized in every village through the Ministry of Cooperation and will play a vital role in achieving the goal of making India Viksit Bharat by 2047.
On the occasion of the fourth foundation day of the Cooperation Department, Chief Minister began by paying tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary, remembering his vision of 'There cannot be two constitutions and two flags in one nation' and his dedication to an undivided India. Referring to the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Chief Minister stated that under Sardar Saheb's guidance, the foundation of cooperation was laid on Gujarat's soil, which today is making a significant contribution to national progress. Andhra's mango procurement sets model for other states
Tirupati/Chittoor: After chilli and tobacco farmers, mango growers are now in focus as YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy looks to raise the political heat in the state. A bumper mango yield this year has brought little joy to farmers, who are struggling with falling prices. Despite the state government's swift action, announcing subsidies and deploying officials to assist distressed farmers, the issue has turned political. Looking to capitalise on the unrest, Jagan will visit Bangarupalem market yard on July 9 to console mango farmers. In fact, the government claims that Andhra Pradesh's proactive, farmer-centric approach to supporting Totapuri mango growers is emerging as a model for other states. It has stepped in not just with aid, but with reassurance, encouraging farmers and helping them cope with the current crisis. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with the farmers and pulp units' representatives in Kuppam during his recent visit and created confidence among them. He categorically told the pulp units that the government will provide whatever help they needed and even wrote to the centre to reduce the GST on pulp products. Tirupati and Chittoor collectors Dr S Venkateswar and Sumit Kumar have assured that procurement is in full swing and that the promised subsidy will be provided without any cap on quantity or time. Totapuri mango cultivation is a major agricultural activity in the state, with mango crops grown across 3.98 lakh hectares, yielding an estimated 49.85 lakh metric tonnes (MT) and a productivity rate of 12.5 MT per hectare. The erstwhile Chittoor district — now divided into Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya — is a key production hub for Totapuri mangoes, with around 80,000 hectares under cultivation and nearly 76,700 farmers engaged in the activity. Tirupati district alone accounts for 14,582 hectares with a projected yield of 1.45 lakh MT this season. Following multiple review meetings held in May at both district and state levels, on June 6, the Chief Minister announced a subsidy of Rs 4 per kilogram for Totapuri mangoes. This brought the total procurement price to Rs 12 per kilogram, with Rs 8 to be paid by processors or traders. It is worth noting that while the neighbouring state of Karnataka limits its procurement to just one month, Andhra Pradesh has committed to continue the process until the last fruit is procured in July and August. Moreover, Karnataka has capped procurement at 4 MT per hectare, whereas Andhra Pradesh has imposed no such restrictions. A proposal has also been submitted to the Union minister for agriculture, seeking the release of Rs 130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to further stabilise the market. The Collectors said that these steps are aimed at shielding farmers from global and national market fluctuations beyond their control. Procurement of Totapuri mangoes began on June 9. As of July 5, 67,980 MT of mangoes have been procured from 10,046 farmers in Tirupati district, while Chittoor district saw procurement of 2.23 lakh MT from 38,706 farmers. The Collectors said that every effort is being made to ensure that no farmer is left behind and that all produce is procured without any problem. Meanwhile, the police imposed restrictions on Jagan's visit, permitting only 500 people inside the market and 30 at the helipad due to space limitations. However, YSRCP leaders have claimed that around 10,000 party workers are expected to attend the event and have urged the police to make necessary arrangements accordingly.

Dropouts to be included in mega parent-teacher meet
Bhimavaram: West Godavari district collector Chadalawada Nagarani said that arrangements are being made to organise a mega parent-teacher meet in all government and private schools and junior colleges in the district in a festive atmosphere on July 10. She held a meeting with the district officials in person and with the division and mandal level officials virtually from the PGRS conference hall and reviewed the arrangements for the meet to be held in the district on Monday. She said that the government has ordered to organise the meet in all educational institutions across the state to guide the students towards a golden future. She asked the parents of each student, as well as the central and state ministers of the district, Rajya Sabha members, legislators, legislative council members, chairmen and members of various corporations, ZPTC, MPTC and local public representatives to participate in this programme on a large scale. There are dropouts especially in classes 6, 7 and 8, and that children should not be outside the school under any circumstances, and she instructed the education department officials to identify such students and enrol everyone in schools. 'We are making the parents of 2,79,204 students studying in 1,920 government and private schools in the district and 37,124 students studying in 121 government and private junior colleges partners,' she said. She said that the government has provided financial assistance of Rs 229.55 crore to 1,76,574 mothers under Talliki Vandanam so that education should not be a burden for poor families. As part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' programme, steps have been taken to provide a sapling to each student under Green Passport and grow it in the name of their mother, for which a Leap app has been created and steps have been taken to register students in the app. In one-on-one interaction, the class in-charge will discuss the Holistic Progress Report Card & Health Card of each student with their parents sitting at a specially arranged desk in the corridor. She said that Rangoli competitions will be organised for mothers, and competitions will be organised for fathers. Joint meals will be organised with parents, students, teachers and public representatives. Everyone should make the meet a success.

Sebi has all powers to act against manipulative trading: Pandey
New Delhi: Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairman, TuhinKanta Pandey, said on Monday that the market regulator has all the powers to act against manipulative trading activities in the matter related to New York-headquartered trading major Jane Street Group, which is very evident from the interim order that has been issued to ban it from the Indian stock market. Asked whether there is a need to have more regulations to act against such entities, the Sebi Chairman quipped that the need was for enforcement and surveillance rather than more regulations, and the 'order in the Jane Street case speaks for itself.' 'Within the regulations only, we have bought it. So, with regulations remaining the same, it is enforcement and surveillance that can actually help. Excess regulations do not mean excess regulation. Those are two different things,' Pandey remarked. He highlighted that a great deal of analytical work went into the Jane Street case, as manipulative activities were done in many ways 'Manipulative practices can be worked out by different players in different ways. There is no one particular way in which you have to assess. Our regulations very clearly mention that manipulative and fraudulent practices are not allowed in the market and within the regulations, Sebihas all the powers to investigate and act,' Pandey explained. 'Obviously, surveillance both at the exchange level and the Sebi level will continue, and we will also upgrade those surveillance measures,' said Pandey. Jane Street has been barred by the Sebi from the Indian stock market for indulging in manipulative trading practices that allegedly enabled the company to make unlawful profits. It indulged in aggressive trading in the derivatives (futures) segment, where the firm executed trades to influence market prices by unfair means to make a fast buck. The Sebidescribed it as 'non-neutral trading behaviour', a strategic attempt to influence prices rather than simply engage with the market. And the tactic wasn't random; it followed a well-known play in the trading world, which is termed 'marking the close.' Jane Street is a proprietary trading firm, which means it trades with its own capital rather than managing client funds. The firm allegedly made a staggering Rs 32,681 crore in profits by manipulating the stock market and repatriating the amount overseas.
