Hezbollah calls Israel east Lebanon strike a 'major escalation'
Hezbollah condemned an Israeli air strike that killed 12 people in the Bekaa Valley on Tuesday, as a "major escalation".
In a statement, the group said Israel's attack "constitutes a major escalation in the context of the ongoing aggression against Lebanon and its people". It called on Lebanese authorities to "take serious, immediate, and decisive action" to uphold a November ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Over 500 killed in South Syria
Over 500 people have been killed in southern Syria's Sweida province, a war monitor said Thursday, giving an updated toll after several days of clashes that triggered the deployment of government forces. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights counted 79 Druze fighters and 154 civilians from Sweida among the dead, including 83 people "who were summarily executed by members of the defence and interior ministries". The clashes also claimed the lives of 243 government personnel and 18 Bedouin fighters, in addition to three members of Bedouin tribes "who were summarily executed by Druze fighters". Gaza civil defense says two killed in Israeli strike on church
Gaza's civil defense agency said an Israeli strike on a Gaza City church killed two people on Thursday, while Israel said it "never targets" religious sites and was investigating the incident. "Two citizens from the Christian community were killed as a result of injuries sustained in an Israeli strike on the Church of the Latin Monastery in the Old City, east of Gaza City, this morning," civil defense spokesman Mahud Bassal told AFP. Druze spiritual leader urges Sweida armed groups and Hezbollah to disarm
by Naharnet Newsdesk 17 July 2025, 15:58 Druze spiritual leader in Lebanon Sheikh Sami Abi al-Mona has expressed his fear of sectarian tensions in Lebanon against the backdrop of Syria's Sweida events. In an interview, published Thursday in local An-Nahar newspaper, Abi al-Mona warned against transferring the conflict to Lebanon and urged both Sweida armed groups and Lebanese Hezbollah to hand over their arms to the state. Al-Mona said the decision of war and peace should be in the hands of the state. "We say this to the people of Sweida and to Hezbollah." The Druze spiritual leader added that Hezbollah has already caused losses to Lebanon and that now is the time to build a state and disarm the group through dialogue yet without procrastination. "Hezbollah's weapons today would not deter Israel but would rather cause an internal conflict," he said.
