Canon Announces Free Updates for AutoTracking and Cameras
Canon has announced the launch of new free firmware updates for its AutoTracking Application RA-AT001, PTZ cameras, RC-IP1000 controller, and Cinema EOS and XF professional camcorders. The updates are expected to be available from July onwards.
The AutoTracking Application RA-AT001 receives new paid features, including Multi-Person Framing, Face Direction Framing, and Sit/Stand Framing. These enhancements improve the PTZ camera's ability to capture natural and professional compositions. Multi-Person Framing is ideal for podcasts, talk shows, and lectures where multiple people need to be framed together. Face Direction Framing adjusts the frame based on where the subject is facing, adding space in front of the face for a better composition. Sit/Stand Framing automatically zooms in when a person sits and zooms out when they stand.
Additionally, Canon's PTZ cameras receive firmware improvements. These include automatic RTMP and SRT streaming reconnection after network disruptions and reduced frame rates for web-based live feeds to optimize performance on busy networks.
The Multi-Camera Control App, a free iOS application, now supports PTZ camera control. It offers functions like Pan/Tilt, Preset Selection, Auto Tracking on/off, and pinch zoom.
The RC-IP1000 controller firmware update adds standard serial communication support for indoor PTZ camera control. It also improves camera pre-registration with a new long-press feature and a larger preset thumbnail layout.
Finally, Cinema EOS and XF camcorders get enhanced virtual production support with Unreal Engine, allowing multiple computers to connect simultaneously. The update also enables in-camera playback of RAW video files with digital lens correction and improved on-screen display customization. Firmware updates expected from July

The lenses include the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE, released in December 2021, and the RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, released in June 2024. APMP is a QuickTime movie profile supported by Apple Vision Pro, the spatial computer developed by Apple Inc. Additionally, Canon revealed that the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens, launched in November 2024, will be compatible with spatial photo technology. This move aims to expand the 3D VR market through ongoing collaboration with Apple. Canon first launched the EOS VR System in 2021 to support VR video production across entertainment, tourism, and education. The company reported that the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens can record spatial video, a type of 3D footage with depth, tailored for Apple Vision Pro. At Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, 2025, Apple announced visionOS 26, the latest operating system for Apple Vision Pro. Canon's RF5.2mm and RF-S3.9mm lenses will offer native playback of APMP on visionOS 26, set for release in late 2025. Users can convert footage from these lenses using Canon's EOS VR Utility app. This update will enhance the immersive experience with Apple Vision Pro. Furthermore, the EOS VR Utility update will enable the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL to handle spatial video and spatial photo when used with Canon mirrorless cameras EOS R7 and EOS R50 V. Canon also reported that the EOS R50, released in March 2023, will gain compatibility with the EOS VR System via a firmware update in mid-July 2025. This update will enable spatial video and spatial photo support. Going forward, Canon stated it will strengthen the EOS VR System through collaboration with Apple. The lens is aimed at beginners exploring nature and sports photography. The RF 75-300mm F4-5.6 offers an impressive zoom range and creative flexibility for both photography and video. It allows users to capture distant subjects without disturbing them, making it ideal for wildlife and sideline sports shooting. Canon revealed that the lens features a large zoom ring requiring just a quarter turn to cover the full zoom range. At 300mm, it can focus as close as 1.5 meters, enabling detailed, frame-filling shots of animals and people. The seven-blade circular aperture helps create a blurred background that highlights the subject. Despite its long reach, the lens weighs only 507g and retracts to a compact 146.1mm, making it one of the lightest in its category.
