A man accused of driving under the influence swerved off the road during an argument with his girlfriend, then she jumped out, and he fatally ran her over, Texas authorities said.
The boyfriend, identified as 66-year-old Theodore Joseph Condara, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon – family violence, driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Condara and his girlfriend were driving home from a bar the evening of June 12 when they got into an argument in Condara's Ford F-150 pickup truck, deputies said in a news release.
Condara swerved off the road and onto a sidewalk in a residential area of Houston, hitting a trash can, according to deputies.
At that point, the woman jumped out of the vehicle, then Condara ran her over, deputies said.
Condara drove around the block before pulling over and heading back on foot to where his girlfriend was injured, according to the sheriff's office.
First responders said they found the woman in critical condition, and she died of her injuries at a hospital.
Condara appeared to be under the influence at the scene and was arrested, according to law enforcement.

Southgate man injured after a pickup hit a highway wall, police say
A Southgate man got emergency medical aid on site and was taken to the hospital after a Ford F-150 he was driving struck a highway wall Thursday in Metro Detroit. Several 911 calls had been made to the Detroit Regional Communication Center about the situation that was noticed about 6:40 p.m. Thursday on Westbound I-94 near Miller Road, the Michigan State Police reported. Some of the calls indicated that the driver appeared to be in convulsions. Another witness was trying to get into the vehicle to provide first aid. When police arrived, the 55-year-old man was still in the car and unresponsive. "Signs of potential drug use were also found in the vehicle," the state police report said. Police car chase ends with arrest of Worcester man accused of crashing stolen truck four times
Tewksbury police arrested a Worcester man they say stole a truck and crashed it four times after a car chase Sunday afternoon. Daniel Riedl, 41, pleaded not guilty to four counts of leaving the scene of a car crash with property damage and one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, negligent operation, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, failure to stop for police, speeding and a marked lanes violation during his arraignment in Lowell District Court on Monday, according to court records. On June 22, Tewksbury police received a report shortly after 1:20 p.m. that a white Ford F-250 had been stolen from the Petroil gas station on Main Street, the police department said in a press release. Officers soon located the truck and attempted to pull it over, but the driver — who was later identified as Riedl — did not stop for police. A short time later, the truck hit a nearby Honda Civic and fled the scene, police said. Tewksbury police then received reports of a crash involving the truck and a Kia Sorento. Officers soon located the stolen truck again, but decided to stop chasing it due to Riedl's dangerous driving, police said. They continued tracking it as Riedl drove toward I-495 south, but he crashed into a traffic light and backed into a Tewksbury police cruiser before continuing onto the highway. Officers then notified Massachusetts State Police of truck's location, and troopers soon pulled it over and arrested Riedl, Tewksbury police said. He was released on personal recognizance bail during his arraignment and is due back in court on July 22, according to court records.
