‘There's a thairaav in Metro…in the words and performances.'
Now the songs we do and the way we showcase the narrative overall, it is a little more paced. You can see in Metro there's thairaav (gravitas). Perhaps it's in this one, too, in the words and performances.Q. Romance too has evolved from then [2007] to now? Does the film capture that change?advertisementYes. Anurag Basu is a perceptive filmmaker; you see the pace of a metro in his film. Earlier people from other cities used to lose themselves in Mumbai. I remember sitting and dreaming on Marine Drive that I would do this and do that. There were no reels to get distracted by. Now there are other outlets for venting. But the core issues are similar and the emotions are the same. Everybody is going through some form of trauma, that has come from somewhere–generational, daddy issues, triggers in relationship, extramarital affairs, situationship These are new labels. There are the nine rasas in the different permutations and combinations.Q. Tell us about your track with Fatima Sana Shaikh. It's a more elevated track emotionally. The fun banter is there, but it's limited as opposed to Sara [Ali Khan] and Adi's [Aditya Roy Kapur]. There's a bit of gloom. It hits you like a train, then it is all downhill. It's a lot of ups and downs. It's the real life, coming to Mumbai to realise your dreams, paying rent while you are in love That's the brutal truth, he has shown how you fight through that. Ek zidd hai (there is a stubbornness).advertisementQ. And the stories are intertwining? But very subtly. I think Basu da is playing on something else that none of the actors know about. Pankaj [Tripathi] ji told me the other day that there was a car that comes and I stop and it almost hits me. Now he is sitting in the car.Q. Basu is one of the last of the Mohicans in how he sees and treats romances. What was it like working with him?He leaves you hungry for more. I really hope my paths cross with him in a more expanded way.He is a certified genius, who works differently and has everything calculated, but he leaves room for actors to bring in their game. There's a lot of unsaid stuff that went on between us which I will cherish. He will give you a clue to see it, then it is you making a choice. It's beautiful to have a director championing you.Q. You donned the producer's hat last year with Girls Will Be Girls, which won a lot of critical acclaim and accolades to go with it. What's brewing with your production banner, Pushing Buttons? It's so nice to be able to make cinema that we wanted to watch. Richa and I want to do that again and again. Some of the studios have been good with us. The Amazon Prime release for the film helped in a big way. The idea is good films be made, we desperately need that.We are in pre-production for two films and one show for which we await the greenlight. Richa is acting in one, I am doing one. That's because of the director's choices rather than us being producers.advertisementQ. You have also done Lahore 1947 with Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi.Aamir (Khan) sir was very instrumental in convincing me to step in. Raj ji [Kumar Santoshi, director] was gung-ho about narrating me this track, which has its own thing going on. The powers that be will decide when it comes out. I have two to three days of patchwork shoot left.Subscribe to India Today Magazine

Isha Ambani Bandhani Gown: Everyone is talking about this pink dress of Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani's daughter due to...
When Esha Ambani steps out, she doesn't just wear fashion; she tells a story. And this time, the story is stitched in tradition and drama. Her latest appearance in a custom Roberto Cavalli gown left fashion enthusiasts breathless. Designed by Fausto Puglisi, the creative head at the luxury Italian house, the gown is a stunning blend of Indian heritage and international glam. The real magic? It's not just luxury, it's legacy. The gown uses the traditional Bandhani dye technique from Kutch, Gujarat. The fabric was painstakingly hand-crafted by Indian artisans, months in the making, and is a celebration of deep-rooted culture presented on a global stage. Is this just Fashion or cultural diplomacy? More than a fashion moment, this is Esha doing what she does best, championing Indian craftsmanship on the world map. For years now, she's been an understated ambassador of Indian textiles. Her fashion isn't loud; it whispers of lineage, labour, and love. Stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania points out that this look subtly nods to the 2012 'Project Renaissance' by Vogue India and Roberto Cavalli, which explored how Indian handlooms could elevate luxury fashion. This past collaboration likely informed the gown's creative direction too, blending nostalgia with novelty. But what about the jewellery? Of course, the look wasn't complete without exquisite jewels, it's the Ambani way. Esha paired her gown with statement earrings by Hanut Singh, featuring noble pink sapphires, emeralds, diamonds, and intricate enamel detailing. She kept the rest minimal, a few carefully chosen rings that allowed the gown's embroidery to shine through, adding just the right amount of sparkle to the modern-maharani vibe. Esha Ambani isn't just wearing couture, she's curating it. Each piece she dons is part of a larger dialogue: one that brings India's craft to global conversations in subtle but unforgettable ways.

Rakul Preet's High-Slit Sequin Gown Is The Drama Your Feed Needs
Last Updated: Rakul Preet turned up the heat in a strapless sequin gown, redefining modern evening glam with sleek sophistication. Rakul Preet Singh served a stunning dose of glamour in her latest look, combining the best of sleek styling, sharp silhouettes, and sultry elegance. Dressed in a strapless black gown embellished with tonal sequins and fringe detailing, Rakul effortlessly embodied modern sophistication with a touch of old-school allure. The thigh-high slit added the perfect dash of drama, while the structured bodice flattered her frame and added a sculptural quality to the overall look. She shared the images on Instagram, with the caption, 'Draped in dreams and silver sparkles ✨🖤." The gown's dark, monochromatic palette allowed the textures to do all the talking. The glistening black sequins and dangling beadwork caught the light with every movement, giving the outfit a kinetic energy, perfect for evening glam. Rakul's styling stayed true to the less-is-more philosophy. No necklace, no fuss. Just a pair of statement drop earrings that framed her face beautifully and echoed the sparkle of her outfit. With a focus on radiant skin and sculpted features, Rakul's makeup elevated the ensemble while keeping it effortless. Her luminous base was complemented with soft contouring and a peach-toned blush that added warmth to her complexion. A nude, satin-finish lip and subtly defined eyes with brown tones kept the overall look soft, sultry, and red-carpet ready — without overshadowing the outfit. The slicked-back bun further sharpened the look, lending it a sophisticated, editorial edge. It drew attention to her shoulders and collarbones while keeping the focus on the ornate neckline of the gown. A few wisps left out would have softened the look, but the clean finish worked perfectly with the structured gown and strong makeup. Altogether, this look felt like a fusion of Hollywood red carpet meets contemporary Indian style — understated yet high-impact. Rakul proves that all it takes is one well-chosen piece, thoughtful styling, and the right attitude to create fashion magic. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 15:17 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
