RJD and its allies have anti-Constitutional mindset, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) slammed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and his political allies for their 'anti-backward, anti-Babasaheb Ambedkar, and anti-Constitution mindset'. At a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the priority of RJD, Congress and their allies was to 'implement provisions like sharia, polygamy and halala and empowerment of only one religion'. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing the policies and schemes of Jan Kalyan and Viksit Bharat along with empowering Dalits, backward classes, women and youth, whereas Tejashwi Yadav is opposing it,' he said. Mr. Bhatia said the BJP had raised a 'serious issue' that those who called themselves socialists in Bihar were in reality 'namazwadis'. 'These people neither accept nor respect Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution... whenever they talk of sharia, the BJP will respond by standing firmly with the Constitution,' he said. He said Mr. Yadav's remark about 'throwing the Waqf Amendment law' into the dustbin was unfortunate and asked him to clarify if any State government can scrap a Central law passed by Parliament. 'The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court, and an interim order has been reserved. So, how can Tejashwi Yadav declare the law unconstitutional? Is this not contempt of court? Has Tejashwi Yadav placed himself above the judiciary,' Mr. Bhatia asked. Terming RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and Mr. Yadav as faces of 'jungle raj', Mr. Bhatia said, 'Even though elections have not yet been announced, their intentions are crystal clear: they are determined to pursue communal politics... their sole agenda is to polarise, create Hindu-Muslim divide and spread communalism.' He said the people of Bihar and the entire country would ensure that those who insulted the Constitution were 'themselves thrown into the dustbin of communal politics'. The BJP leader said that during the 2024 Lok Sabha election, all the parties in the Congress-led alliance had accepted the manifesto that 'clearly stated that personal laws and sharia would be implemented, and religion-based reservations would be granted', which were 'completely unconstitutional'. Stating that the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance would not 'allow such poisonous ideologies' to succeed, Mr. Bhatia said, 'If Tejashwi Yadav truly wants to listen to the public, he should first recall what his father, Lalu Prasad, said in Parliament on May 7, 2010. He himself had admitted that the Waqf Board had grabbed land from the general public and the government, and that there was a strong need for strict laws against this.'

BJP slams RJD of undermining PM's efforts to uplift backward classes, accuses Tejashwi of pushing ‘Sharia agenda'

New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia today accused Bihar's former Deputy CM and Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav of 'undermining' Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to uplift backward classes, Dalits, and women and said that Rashtriya Janata Dal's sole objective is the 'imposition of Sharia law in India, and to empower only one community." "Tejashwi Yadav's party, RJD, is destroying the idea of empowering these marginalized sections. While they talk about Sharia, the BJP will continue to talk about the Constitution," he said during a press conference at BJP headquarters in Delhi. Asserting that 'Mahathugbandhan' is openly against the Constitution , the BJP spokesperson said, "The Congress manifesto said that it wanted to implement Sharia Law. Personal Laws will be implemented. Reservations will be based on religion, which is against the Constitution. NDA will never allow their plans to succeed. On 2010 May 7, Lalu Prasad Yadav said that the Waqf board has snatched the land of the government and the common man and strong laws are required to control Chief Lalu Yadav has never apologized for the disrespect he showed towards Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.' Referring to Bihar's former Deputy CM and Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav's remarks on Wakf Amendment Act, Bhatia said, "Yesterday, a 9th-grade fail, Tejashwi Yadav, was saying that he would throw the Waqf Amendment Bill, passed by the Indian Parliament, into the trash. How can a state government dismiss a law passed by the Centre?" Taking on the INDIA alliance, the BJP spokesperson said, "If Tejashwi Yadav gives hate speech against the Waqf Amendment Act, then his purpose is to create a division in society. Our government in Bihar talks about development, and they talk about Sharia Law. In Karnataka, they snatched the rights of the backwards and gave them to Muslims," he said. Recalling the lawlessness that prevailed during the "Jungle Raj" of Lalu, he said , "The first rule of Jungle Raj is the destruction of the Constitution and the law, and that is exactly what Tejashwi Yadav is doing while sitting in the opposition." Questioning the RJD's so-called socialist agenda, Bhatia stated, "Those who call themselves 'samajwadi' (socialists) in Bihar are in fact 'namazwadi'. They do not want Babasaheb's Constitution and neither do they respect it. Their sole objective is the imposition of Sharia law in India, and to empower only one community." He took a direct jibe at Tejashwi Yadav, asking, "The so-called master of appeasement, Maulana Tejashwi Yadav, have you ever read the Constitution? Can a state government disregard a law passed by Parliament and signed by the President?" In another sharp remark, Bhatia reminded Tejashwi Yadav about his family's long tenure in power. "Tejashwi Yadav is now demanding 20 months, but the people of Bihar gave more than a decade to the Yadav family. What was the result? The value of human life was lost. Now they talk about youth, but have they ever given an opportunity to anyone outside their family to become CM or even party president?" Bhatia asked. Bhatia also questioned Tejashwi Yadav's stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill, pointing out that the matter is still pending in the Supreme Court. "Why does Tejashwi Yadav have such an anarchist approach? Why is he trying to demean the SC before it has even passed its verdict? Has Tejashwi Yadav become more important than the Supreme Court itself?" UNI AJ AAB GNK 1602

Assam: Six detained after plastic bottle hurled at CM's convoy

Guwahati: A day after a plastic water bottle was hurled at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's convoy during his visit to Golaghat, police on Tuesday detained six individuals, including Congress workers, sparking a political clash between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. Among those detained are Pallab Chetia, secretary of the Golaghat District Congress Committee, and Rahul Phukan, son of a former Block Congress Secretary. Both are reportedly associates of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi. Golaghat MLA Biswajit Phukan (BJP) linked the act to the Congress's "politics of disruption," citing historical references like the Emergency and the 1983 elections. "The Chief Minister came with a development agenda, but Congress cannot tolerate his popularity," he said. The incident, captured on video, shows the bottle being thrown at the convoy, though no injuries or damage were reported. Assam Power Minister Prasanta Phukan called it a "serious security breach" and demanded a security review, alleging an "attempt on the Chief Minister's life." The BJP also staged protests in Dibrugarh, condemning the act. The Congress, however, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Congress spokesperson Rituporno Konwar claimed four Youth Congress members were "illegally detained" an hour before the incident during a separate protest against cattle theft. "If they weren't present, how could they have thrown the bottle? This is a tactic to suppress dissent," he said. Sarma downplayed the incident with sarcasm, but the opposition accused the BJP of exaggerating the event to target Congress workers. The case has intensified scrutiny over security lapses and political vendettas in Assam. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Bhupen Borah has condemned the incident of attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma and said, 'It is very unfortunate that someone threw a bottle on his convoy. The act is condemnable. Congress believes in democratic agitation and protest.' Dhubri Congress MP Rakibul Hussain said, 'I was also attacked by a few miscreants on the road; however, at that time, the Chief Minister took a potshot at me.'
