ICE facility attack: Blue alert sent for military veteran suspected in shooting
Blue alert has been issued in Texas as authorities continue their search for a 12th suspect in what officials describe as a July 4 'ambush' at the ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Fox4 reported.
Benjamin Hanil Song of Dallas faces six pending charges for allegedly opening fire on two correctional officers and an Alvarado police officer during the Prairieland detention center ambush.
The suspect, a former US Marine Corps Reservist of five years, allegedly used two AR-15-style rifles to fire at three officers during the ambush.
Moreover, the FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Song's arrest.
What is Blue alert?
A Blue alert is a public safety notification system used to help locate and apprehend suspects who have seriously injured or killed a law enforcement officer. Much like Amber or Silver alerts, it leverages broadcast and digital platforms to quickly inform the public and encourage tips that may lead to an arrest.
To issue a Blue alert, specific conditions must be met: a law enforcement officer must have been killed or critically injured; the suspect must pose a serious threat to the public or other officers; and there must be identifying information such as a vehicle description or license plate that can be shared widely.

The account came under widespread scrutiny after a student from a private college posted a video on Instagram detailing her own experience. 'Recently, there was a video of me shot in public on Church Street. It was shot very inappropriately and then posted online without my consent. 'I tried reporting from multiple accounts. But apparently, it says that it follows community guidelines. I don't even know the community guidelines for Instagram at this point. The reels have been viewed by the minute, and people are finding my account. I have been getting vulgar messages, to say the least.' Calling out the account's rising popularity, reportedly with over 10,000 followers, she said, 'There are a lot of women like me who have been posted from that account... To see that this is becoming normal on social media, we need to speak up. We need to do the right things because while we are out there fighting for languages, I think there are more serious concerns to be addressed. I am tagging Bengaluru City police and cyber crime to help me take that account down, and I really hope you guys do as well because numbers speak.' Police said they took serious note of the complaint and escalated the matter. The high-profile nature of the case triggered public outrage and drew attention from law enforcement. The ATS arrested Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba and his associate Neetu alias Nasreen on Saturday. The duo was presented before a Lucknow court and remanded to judicial custody. ATS sources revealed that the gang led by Baba was trapping Hindu women into relationships and converting them through coercion. Investigations have linked them to over 40 international trips to Islamic nations and foreign funding worth approximately ₹100 crore, including ₹30–40 crore in Bank of Baroda accounts linked to Chhangur and Neetu. Earlier, on April 8, Chhangur Baba's son Mehboob and another associate Naveen alias Jamaluddin were also arrested in connection with the same syndicate. When the party concerned failed to respond to the May 17 notice, the mansion was demolished on Tuesday. Chhangur Baba and Neetu were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) on Saturday from a hotel in Lucknow. In the initial FIR, the two were accused of the illegal religious conversion of 40 people in Balrampur. Investigators believe that the count was much higher. On Tuesday morning, the Balrampur district administration launched a massive demolition drive targeting his illegal properties in Madhpur village of Utraula. The operation witnessed the deployment of over 10 bulldozers and two companies of PAC to ensure law and order during the sensitive action. Senior officials, including district magistrate Pawan Agarwal and superintendent of police Vikas Kumar, were present on the site, monitoring the demolition of structures illegally constructed on a piece of barren land that belonged to gram samaj. According to the administration, the encroachments included an illegally built college, hospital, and madrassa spanning 3 to 6 bighas of land. Officials said these were constructed without approval and were part of a larger land grab linked to Baba's expanding influence in the area. A large, luxurious residential building owned by Chhangur Baba also came under the bulldozers. Due to its strong structure, the demolition took several hours and is expected to continue for two to three more days. Officials confirmed that a portion of the 5-bigha campus built in the name of Neetu Rohra alias Nasreen—a co-accused in the case—was also razed. The land, verified as govt property, had earlier been served a notice in May. Speaking on the demolition, DM Pawan Agarwal said, "We are committed to taking strict action against illegal encroachments and anti-social activities. This drive is part of a wider crackdown on those misusing public land and engaging in unlawful religious conversions." SP Vikas Kumar added, "The law will take its course. We are investigating all leads, and strict action will be taken against all those involved."
