VP Sara hoping Duterte takes oath as mayor as start of term nears
Vice President Sara Duterte is hoping and praying that former President Rodrigo Duterte will take his oath as mayor of Davao City before his new term as local chief executive starts on June 30.
In a news conference, Sara Duterte said she didn't know the discussions between her father and his lawyers as regards taking his oath as city mayor.
"As a Davaoeño, I hope and pray that he takes his oath because I voted for him, I want him to be mayor of Davao City. That is my prayer, but we do not know what are the discussions between lawyers and former President Duterte," Sara Duterte said.
"So we wait if he takes his oath. Or he doesn't take his oath, then we will have a situation where Davao City has an acting mayor," she added.
Her brother Baste Duterte was elected vice mayor and will be acting mayor if the former president is unable to take office.
The former president is detained in The Hague to face crimes against humanity charges in connection with the killings related to his war on drugs when he was president and when he was mayor of Davao City.
Sara Duterte also addressed the Palace's remarks as regards her recent trip to Australia where she attended a rally in support of her father.
"Kapag personal siya at walang gamit na pera ng gobyerno, di mo kailangan magreport. Ganoon lang yan kasimple na kailangan ko pa iexplain… Nakakahiya na yung ginagawa nila," Sara Duterte said.
"Yung totoo lang, as a Filipino, I am truly embarrassed with what is happening to our country, especially coming from the administration,' she added.

In response to Malacañang's claims that she was 'disregard[ing] the issue of accountability' in declaring she was a frontrunner for the 2028 presidential elections, Sara Duterte said, "Kapag walang nangyayare sa administrasyon mo at walang ginagawa yung principal o presidente, ang gagawin nila is magtuturo ng ibang tao."
"Kapag merong kwestyon sa kawalan ng ginagawa ng administrasyon, ang gagawin nila is magtuturo sa ibang tao para mawala yung mga tanong at para magugulo yung ibang tao. That is a classic political scapegoating,' Sara Duterte said.

"Ang sinabi niya (Martires) ang kaniyang kapangyarihan lang ay mag-imbestiga, hindi ang mag-desisyon (He said his power is to investigate, not to decide on cases)," House prosecution panel spokesperson Atty. Antonio Audie Bucoy said at the Saturday News Forum. "Aantayin niya ang kahihinatnan ng impeachment trial, which is tama (He will wait for the outcome of the impeachment trial, which is correct). I commend the Ombudsman for that," Bucoy said. In an interview on Friday regarding the issue, Martires said his office does not have the power to prosecute. Further, should the Senate impeachment court in favor of the Vice President, the Office of the Ombudsman may no longer pursue charges, according to Martires. Martires said, "The Ombudsman or any investigating body has to await the result of the impeachment proceeding." "But if the Vice President is acquitted by the impeachment court, wala kaming power to charge her (But if the Vice President is acquitted by the impeachment court, we have no power to charge her)," the Ombudsman said. Martires had also denied that he was out to sabotage the trial when his office acted on the report submitted by the House Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability. On June 19, the Ombudsman asked Duterte to file her counter-affidavit to the alleged misuse of confidential funds of the Department of Education and the Office of the Vice President. Duterte filed her counter affidavit with the Ombudsman on Friday, June 27, 2025. The House of Representatives had submitted a committee report on June 16, alleging plunder, technical malversation, falsification, use of falsified documents, perjury, bribery, corruption of public officers, betrayal of public trust, and culpable violation of the Constitution. Also named as respondents were Edward Fajarda and Gina Acosta, Special Disbursing Officers; Assistant Secretary Atty. Sunshine Charry Fajarda, Director for Strategic Management Office; retired Major General Nolasco Mempin, Undersecretary for Administration; and Annalyn Sevilla, Undersecretary for Finance Service. All of them are from the Department of Education. Those charged from the Office of the Vice President were Atty. Zuleika Lopez, Undersecretary and Chief of Staff; Lemuel Ortonio, Assistant Chief of Staff; Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Nolasco, Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group; and Colonel Raymund Dante Lachia, Commander of Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group of the Philippine Army. Martires had said the investigation may take longer than the trial, adding that it may be up to the next Ombudsman to tackle the issue. Chavit Singson launches 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines' in hopes to educate and inspire globally
Chavit Singson has officially launched his book, 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines,' which aims to offer a look into the life and lessons of the former Ilocos Sur Governor. On Friday evening at the Peninsula Manila in Makati, Singson unveiled the book at an event graced by many of his friends, including showbiz personalities Vina Morales, Pops Fernandez, Anabelle Rama, and Eddie Gutierrez. 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines' is not a traditional autobiography but a sprawling, in-depth interview with almost 700 questions answered by Singson. Singson said that a pivotal lesson he wishes readers to glean from the book, particularly concerning his role in politics, is the supreme importance of 'credibility' for success. 'If they want to be successful, kailangan 'yung credibility nila [ay] huwag masira. Kasi like me, ang iniingatan ko, isa lang salita ko. Nobody is perfect, pero kung magsabi ka, kailangan totoo,' he said. 'Nobody's perfect. Magkamali ka, just say sorry. Kasi 'yun ang kabilin-bilinan ng tatay ko. 'Pag nawala ang credibility mo, wala na maniwala sayo. So very important ang credibility. 'Yun ang kaingat-ingatan ko.' 'I think the governor's life could fill like 10 books, not only just one, but we focused on the most important facts,' he said. Mikurda, who devoted almost 1.5 years to writing the book, said that his focus was placed on the most important facts while also deliberately incorporating Singson's personal beliefs, values, and the rules he lives by to provide deeper insight. The book's publisher, Riza Hansen, shared that they plan to distribute the books to many students across the country, as well as to translate the book into 15 languages, with an Arabic translation already underway, aiming to make it accessible to over 5 billion people worldwide. This ambitious endeavor includes organizing book launches in 20 world capitals across six continents. 'We want as many people in the world as possible to know who Chavit is and how amazing his story is, and to understand the beautiful history of our country, the Philippines,' she said. Outside of politics, Singson is also involved in the entertainment industry, helping to produce projects, including the recent film 'Samahan ng mga Makasalanan,' which starred David Licauco, Sanya Lopez, and more. He teased that he has another upcoming project with GMA Network, which is coming 'very soon.' 'Ewan ko kung kailan, pero nakahanda na. Sinabi sa akin nakahanda na lahat. Six OFWs from Iran arrive safely in PH
Six overseas Filipino workers (OFW) repatriated from Iran amid its conflict with Israel arrived safely in the Philippines on Saturday morning, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said. The OFWs — five who worked as shrimp hatchery technicians in Iran and one domestic worker from Dubai who accompanied her employer to Iran as a tourist — arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, and DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi welcomed the OFWs. The repatriated workers were also met by the MIA Medical Team as well as a social welfare officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The OFWs boarded an Emirates flight to Manila. "The repatriation was made possible through the efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Tehran, led by Ambassador Roberto Manalo, in close coordination with the DMW and OWWA," the DMW said. The repatriated OFWs were given financial assistance by the DMW, OWWA, and DSWD. The MIA Medical Team also provided them with food and medical services. The OWWA will give the OFWs temporary hotel accommodations and domestic flights back to their home provinces. The DMW said two more OFWs from Iran are expected to arrive on Saturday night. "This group marks the first batch of Filipinos repatriated from Iran following the June 13 Israel-Iran conflict," the DMW said. President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday tasked government offices to take the necessary steps to ensure the safe and orderly return of Filipino workers who wish to avail themselves of voluntary repatriation. In a statement, Marcos said the government is already processing over 200 requests for repatriation and ''we are moving quickly to bring them home while others have opted to remain at work.'' ''I urge our fellow Filipinos to coordinate with our embassies in Tel Aviv and in Tehran. Please follow their guidance, inform them of your situation, and do not hesitate to ask for assistance,'' Marcos said. The Philippine government raised crisis alert level 3 in Israel and Iran on June 20, urging Filipinos in the area to avail of voluntary repatriation. Crisis level 3 or voluntary repatriation phase is imposed by the Philippine government on countries with deteriorating security conditions. At least 30,000 workers, mostly caregivers, are in Israel, and more than 1,000 are in Iran. Tensions heightened between Israel and Iran on June 13 after Israel struck nuclear and military targets Tehran with missiles. According to an Israeli military official, Iran had enough material to make 15 nuclear bombs within days. Iran retaliated, then both countries traded missile attacks. The US also bombed Iran nuclear sites on June 21, and Iran thereafter fired missiles at an American base in Qatar on June 23.
