Qatari-Omani Parliamentary Friendship Group at Shura Council visits Muscat to bolster relationship
Throughout this two-day visit, a series of meetings were held with a range of Omani parliamentarians to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation and sharing expertise in the parliamentary domain.
In addition, the members of the group held meetings with Deputy Chairman of the State Council Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Hinai and Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council Saeed bin Hamad Al Saadi.
Throughout the meetings, they discussed the strength of the Qatar-Oman brotherly relationship and underscored their keenness to reinforce bilateral cooperation and joint coordination.
The delegation also met with the Omani-Qatari Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Shura Council, chaired by HE Salem bin Ali Al Kaabi, during which they emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and communication, in addition to reinvigorating the cooperation mechanisms between the two groups so as to foster joint parliamentary action.
The delegation was briefed on the Omani parliamentary experience, along with the work mechanisms in the Omani Shura Council, in addition to discussing a range of topics of shared interest and exchanging viewpoints on the best parliamentary practices in this regard.

NRNA Qatar General Convention elects Padam Giri as its president
Tribune News Network Doha The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council Qatar successfully held its 11th General Convention at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Doha, electing a new Executive Committee for the 2025–2027 term. Held with grandeur and broad participation, the event saw Padam Giri elected unopposed as President, leading a 36-member executive team. The biennial convention serves as a platform for the Nepalese diaspora in Qatar to renew leadership and enhance community engagement. The newly elected committee was officially sworn in by Election Commissioner Kamalni Guragain, who administered the oath of office and confidentiality. Padam Giri will lead the council alongside Roshan Aryal as First Vice-President, Subash Thapa as Second Vice-President, and Lila Rai as Third Vice-President. Ram Kumari Tamang was elected Women's Vice-President, with Tank Bahadur B K serving as Youth Vice-President. Shiva Bhujel has taken office as General Secretary, while Prem Kumar Basnet and Mohammad Azad Mansur will serve as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, respectively. The secretarial team includes Khemraj Subedi, Isilal Pandit, and Shankarman Rai. Apsana Miya will serve as Women's Coordinator, with Chham Bahadur Chand as Youth Coordinator. In addition, the executive committee includes 19 members representing various sectors of the Nepali community in Qatar. The Audit Committee is headed by Padam Bahadur Ranabhat, with Sajid Eqbal and Hemraj Rijal as members, tasked with overseeing financial transparency. Qatar's representatives to the International Coordination Council (ICC) include Minraj Wagle, Jhavindra Belbase, Shiv Kumar Mahato, and Ishwar Raj Paudel. The convention was held under the patronage of Dr Badri KC, president of the NRNA ICC. It was attended by Salha Al Khalaf from Qatar's Ministry of Labour, officials from the Ministry of Interior, leaders of other expatriate communities, advisors and honorary members of the ICC, as well as representatives from various Nepali organisations across Qatar. Salha Al Khalaf, a distinguished guest at the event, extended his best wishes to the newly elected team and indicated that a follow-up meeting would be scheduled soon to explore future programmes and areas of cooperation. Dr Badri KC affirmed that the newly elected executive team is the official representative body of NRNA Qatar, operating under the Government of Nepal. He expressed confidence that the committee would adhere to the organisation's constitution and follow the directives of the ICC in its operations. Guided by the motto 'For Nepaleas, By Nepaleas,' NRNA Qatar has been at the forefront of various social, cultural, and philanthropic initiatives. The organisation maintains close collaboration with Qatari governmental bodies, charitable institutions, the Nepali Embassy, and other expatriate communities. Padam Giri, the newly elected President, is a veteran community leader who previously served two terms as General Secretary. He is recognised for his institutional experience and his collaborative efforts during significant events such as FIFA 2022 and the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he engaged effectively with Qatari authorities and community groups. The convention was chaired by Organising Committee Coordinator Keshab Karki and facilitated by Member Secretary Roshan Aryal.

NHRC developing educational guides to promote human rights awareness among students: Al Attiyah
QNA Beirut The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is currently working on developing educational guides targeted at the primary, preparatory, and secondary levels, which were previously issued in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, to promote human rights awareness among students, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah said. In her speech during the high-level meeting on developing a guiding manual of best practices and experiences in human rights education in the Arab region, held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Al Attiyah noted that this development aims to integrate human rights concepts into educational curricula in line with universal human rights principles and the values and customs of Qatari society. The meeting included participation from the National Human Rights Commission in Lebanon, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), headquartered in Doha, and the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre for Human Rights in the Arab Region and Southwest Asia. She added that the Committee continues its awareness efforts in this field through training kits, courses, campaigns, workshops, and competitions organized in schools, explaining that during the first half of this year, the Committee held 29 activities benefiting 1,245 male and female students. Al Attiyah emphasised that human rights education is one of the Committee's top priorities and represents a fundamental pillar in building prosperous and sustainable societies, calling for highlighting the best practices and experiences in the Arab region to encourage, support, and benefit from them in developing relevant guiding manuals. The chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee expressed the Committee's hope that this meeting would contribute to enhancing various aspects of human rights education in the region, particularly regarding the integration of fundamental human rights concepts into the educational process and the adoption of methods and mechanisms that support a human rights-based approach. She pointed out that human rights education contributes to the development of knowledge, values, and skills, in addition to instilling the values of dignity, equality, non-discrimination, freedom, and justice. She added that the Committee is aware of the challenges facing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula, yet it recognises the great opportunities that societies can gain by raising future generations with a culture of human rights. She affirmed the Committee's determination to move forward in this direction through clear plans that take into account the cultural, social, and civilisational values of Qatari society. Al Attiyah affirmed the NHRC's keenness to involve teachers, parents, and students themselves in relevant consultations and meetings, and to listen to the voices of children and youth on various topics raised in national forums, stressing the importance of ensuring the participation of students with disabilities and facilitating their access to all activities. She noted that the Committee's efforts align with constitutional requirements that affirm the Qatari society's foundation on five essential pillars: justice, benevolence, freedom, equality, and noble morals. These efforts also align with Qatar National Vision 2030. She affirmed the National Human Rights Committee's full support for the efforts to develop the guiding manual for human rights education in the Arab region, expressing hope that the outcomes of the meeting would contribute to enhancing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula and developing methods and tools that foster generations capable of upholding these values.

NRNA Qatar elects Krishna as president for 2025–2027
Ashraf Siddiqui Doha The National Coordination Council (NCC) of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the main representative body of the Nepali community in Qatar, has successfully concluded its general convention, electing Krishna Panthi as president for the 2025–2027 term. The convention was held recently in the presence of Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, spokesperson of the Nepali Congress and former Foreign Minister of Nepal, who attended as Chief Guest. Krishna Panthi, a committed community leader with years of service in NRNA Qatar—including his previous role as first vice-president—was elected to the top post, reflecting the community's confidence in his leadership and vision. He has played a vital role in advocating for workers' rights, organising welfare programmes, and promoting Nepali culture in Qatar. The newly elected executive body comprises Rabin Magar as first vice-president; Santosh Poudel and Jahagir Alam as second and third vice-presidents; Toumaya Gurung as women's vice-president; Meher Singh Tamang as youth vice-president; and Vivek Pulami Magar as general secretary. The secretaries are Buddha Pandey, Sujan Gurung, and Arjun Sangraula. Kavindra Kandel serves as treasurer, with Kanchha Shrestha (Ajay) as co-treasurer. Kalpana Pun Magar it the new women's coordinator and Keshav Raj Malla (Keshu) as youth coordinator. The inclusive Working Committee reflects a broad representation of the community, with members such as Rita Pokharel, Indira Shah, Ram Chandra Giri, Amrit Bishwakarma, Prakash Darnal, Darshan Sunar, Ganesh Adhikari, Rajan Chapagain, Tara Tamata (Kamal), Dilli Ram Bhattarai, and Mohammad Rafiq Ryan. Additional members include Bishwanath Bhattarai, Gorakh Bahadur Chand Thakuri, Md. Anwarul Haq, Sheikh Momtaz, Prakash Thapa, Sushil Kumar Subba, Krishna Bhandari, and Pushkar Bahadur Saud, all of whom have significantly contributed to community welfare and social service in Qatar. The Accounts Committee is chaired by Ram Prasad Gautam, with Kamal Khatri and Ashok Ale Magar as members. The Disciplinary Committee is led by Tak Kumar Khadka (Kumar), with Kalyan Thapa and Arjun Khadka serving alongside him. The newly elected team has pledged to prioritise welfare initiatives, legal aid, education, cultural promotion, and stronger diplomatic engagement with the Nepali Embassy. Special focus will be placed on low-income workers, youth empowerment, and strengthening ties between Nepal and Qatar. Adding a cultural touch to the convention, renowned Nepali folk singer Baburam Panthi, specially invited from Nepal, delivered a memorable performance that captivated the audience. Under Krishna Panthi's leadership, the new committee aims to serve as a bridge between the Nepali and Qatari communities through cultural exchange, social initiatives, and collaborative events. They have expressed their strong commitment to organising impactful programmes that celebrate Nepali identity while embracing the multicultural values of Qatari society.
