CRDA is committed to building a sustainable future in Amaravati, says Commissioner
Delivering the keynote address at a capacity building program organised by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for the CRDA officials in Vijayawada on Friday, Mr. Kanna Babu said the CRDA was taking decisive steps to ensure that every project in Amaravati has sustainable design and followed green building principles. As a testament to it, the CRDA aimed to achieve green and net zero building certification for the upcoming CRDA head office in Amaravati.
This flagship project would serve as an inspiration for all future developments in the region, he said, adding that the IGBC guidance and collaboration were crucial in the CRDA's journey towards achieving net zero status by 2040.
The participants discussed the concepts and practices of IGBC Green Building Rating Systems, and ways to enable the government departments concerned to lead by example in implementing green building norms across all upcoming infrastructure developments.
IGBC Amaravati Chapter Chairman Vijay Sai Meka said the CRDA team has shown exemplary leadership by adopting IGBC Green Ratings in its key developments and that the collaboration (with IGBC) stood as a model for public agencies and green building councils to work together to drive measurable environmental impact.
The program was a part of IGBC's efforts to build capacity, strengthen awareness, and encourage wide-scale adoption of green practices among public and private stakeholders, and further cementing Andhra Pradesh's position as a leader in sustainable development, he noted.
IGBC Amaravati Chapter Co-Chair Ganesh Sai Chaitanya Gali, and NAREDCO Executive Vice-President Kiran Kumar Paruchuri and IGBC Senior Counsellor V. Sundeep were among those present.

Guntur IRR Phase-3 back on track
GUNTUR: In a major push to Guntur's long-stalled infrastructure development, the phase-3 of the city's Inner Ring Road (IRR) project is finally moving forward. The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has recently released an e-procurement notification inviting tenders for the construction of the 4.5-kilometre stretch between Swarnabharathi Nagar and Palakaluru. Estimated to cost Rs 48 crore, this stretch will complete the long-pending IRR corridor and significantly ease urban traffic pressure. The IRR project, first conceptualised by the VGTM (Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri) Urban Development Authority in 2005, was envisioned as a strategic bypass to channel traffic from Palnadu and western Guntur toward NH-65 and Vijayawada, without overloading the city's narrow arterial roads. While phases 1 and 2, covering 6.7 kilometres, were completed by 2018, the final leg was left in limbo due to shifting jurisdictions, compensation disputes, and a lack of political will during the previous administration.

CRDA-IGBC program held to promote Net Zero goals in Andhra
VIJAYAWADA: In a key step toward achieving Andhra Pradesh's Net Zero target by 2040 and the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), in collaboration with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), held a highlevel capacity-building programme for senior officials in Vijayawada on Friday. The session, held at a city hotel, was attended by over 50 senior officials from APCRDA, including the Engineer-in-Chief, Chief Engineer (H&B), Director (Planning), Director (Environment), and heads of key departments. The training focused on IGBC's Green Building Rating Systems, aimed at integrating sustainability into future infrastructure projects in the Capital Region. Commissioner K Kanna Babu, delivering the keynote address, reiterated APCRDA's commitment to developing a sustainable Amaravati. 'Our goal is to make Amaravati a model green capital. Our upcoming head office will be a flagship Net Zero project,' he said, adding that IGBC's support is crucial in achieving the 2040 target. Amaravati's master plan earlier received IGBC's Green Cities Platinum rating at the 2018 Happy Cities Summit, making it the first capital city in India to be certified by design. Vijay Sai Meka, chairman of the IGBC Amaravati Chapter, commended APCRDA's efforts. Other key participants included Ganesh Sai Chaitanya Gali, chapter co-chair, and Kiran Kumar Paruchuri, executive vice president of NAREDCO. They also announced the upcoming Green Andhra Summit on August 7. IGBC senior counsellor Sundeep V reaffirmed the council's role as a knowledge partner in AP's green transformation.
