'Is that a mistake?' Luke Littler asks ahead of crunch clash with Gerwyn Price

Yahoo23-05-2025
LUKE 'The Nuke' Littler has laid down the gauntlet to Gerwyn Price ahead of their mouthwatering semi-final clash in the Premier League Play-Offs at the O2 Arena in London.
Reigning champion Littler booked his place as the number one seed in the showpiece deciding night earlier this month, but it was only after Thursday's final round of the league phase in Sheffield that the teenage sensation learned who would be in his way to reach the final.
The manner in which Price surrendered third spot to Nathan Aspinall by giving up a 5-1 lead against Chris Dobey in his quarter-final means Price will play Warrington's world champion Littler after he had looked primed to face second-placed Luke Humphries.
Littler finished off a record-breaking league campaign in style as he claimed a sixth nightly victory in Sheffield to finish on 45 points – a new high in this format of the competition.
Although the 18-year-old's record is not great against Price he is certainly confident in his form going into the conclusion of 16 weeks of league action that he mostly led from top spot in the table.
'Gezzy was 5-1 up, if he won that game he would have been third,' Littler said.
'Is that a mistake? Certainly I am ready for next week. He has the record against me, but it is the O2 and I'm looking forward to it.
'I am very happy to break the records I have broken this year. But for myself, winning in Sheffield is a massive boost and a massive bonus and it gives me a lot of confidence going forward next week.'

If Littler does beat Price, he would meet either Humphries or Aspinall in the final as he looks to defend the title he won last year.
Price has a 7-6 win record against Littler, including six wins in a row, and he looked to have the measure of the Warringtonian over a 12-month period.
But 'The Nuke' has come out on top in their past two meetings, both in Premier League nightly rounds.
Littler won 6-3 in their quarter-final in Manchester on April 10 and by the same scoreline in their semi-final in Leeds on May 8.

Chelsea Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For This Manchester United Attacker: Is He Worth The Fight?

In a recent report, The Telegraph claimed that Chelsea are locked in a three-way battle for Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho. It has been mentioned that the Blues would have to rival Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the race to land the Argentine playmaker this summer. Garnacho's Impressive Form In English Football Last Season Garnacho had a decent campaign with the Mancunian club recently as he managed to shine at times for them in the Premier League. The Argentine talent participated in 58 matches for Man United last season, scoring 11 times and earning ten assists in multiple competitions. The 21-year-old was an impressive performer in the opposition half based on his average of 3.44 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he kept 34.5% of his attempts on target. Garnacho distributed the ball relatively well after completing 78.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Blues to land him on the cheap this off-season. (Photo by) Chelsea Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For Garnacho: Is He Worth The Fight? Garnacho is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. However, the Argentine talent has to find a way to be more lethal in front of the opposition goal. Garnacho is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger if needed. Garnacho would add more firepower to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca's frontline. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the West London club next season. At 21, Garnacho has got a promising future ahead of him and could prove to be a great signing for the Blues in the long run. With all things considered, the Argentina international would be well worth the fight, so Maresca would be wise to step up his efforts to sign him this summer.

Chelsea Take Major Step in Signing Arsenal, Tottenham Transfer Target With PSG Clause

Earlier this year, PSG sold Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig, and the Dutch midfielder has since attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Leipzig paid €80 million for Simons, with €55 million upfront. The 22-year-old signed a contract through June 2027, and PSG included a sell-on clause in the deal. CaughtOffside recently revealed that Simons could be available this summer for around €60 million and is open to a move to the Premier League. Talks are already underway over a potential transfer to London, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham all in the running for the Netherlands international. Chelsea open up club talks for former PSG standoutSky Sports' Florian Plettenberg reported Wednesday that RB Leipzig and Chelsea have opened direct talks over a potential move for Simons. Chelsea have made it clear they want to sign him, and Leipzig are now expecting an official offer to arrive soon. The London club are pushing to act quickly and stay ahead of other suitors. When does 2025-26 Premier League season begin? Start date, format

The 2025-26 Premier League season is nearly here, with the world's most daunting soccer league readying to kick off a nine-month season in the near future. Liverpool will enter the season hoping to repeat as champions after outlasting Arsenal and Manchester City last season. The title holders have spent big to bolster their squad, parting with a reported €220 million to sign midfielder Florian Wirtz and striker Hugo Ekitiké. Arsenal will hope some improved consistency is the key to taking the next step, while Man City is banking on key midfielder Rodri's return from a torn ACL to carry them back to the top of the heap. Chelsea is another club to watch, as the free-spending Blues used this summer to win the expanded Club World Cup. Manchester United, meanwhile, will simply be hoping for a more coherent, sturdy season after some big stumbles left their huge fanbase frustrated throughout the 2024-25 season. Here's what to know about the 2025-26 Premier League season, including start date, format, and how to watch every game: Premier League power rankings: Every team's odds to win 2025-26 championship Premier League 2025-26: When does season start? The 2025-26 Premier League season will begin with defending champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth on Friday, Aug. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Anfield. Saturday, Aug. 16 will feature five matches across the league, while three more will be played Sunday, Aug. 17. The first round of fixtures of the campaign will conclude with Leeds United hosting Everton on Monday, Aug. 18. Premier League season format For 2025-26, the Premier League has stuck to one of the most easy-to-understand formats in all of sports. There are 20 teams in the league, and a given team plays the other 19 once at home and once on the road. After everyone plays 38 games, the team with the most points (three for a win, one for a tie, zero for a loss) is crowned the champion. That's it! It gets a little more complicated when the subject moves to qualifying for European club competitions or relegation. Currently, the top four earn places in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League, while fifth place qualifies for next season's Europa League. However, that is subject to change. If one of the top five teams in the standings also win the FA Cup (a knockout tournament that involves teams from all levels of English soccer) or the EFL Cup (a separate knockout tournament for teams from the top four professional divisions), the sixth-place finisher in the league will get into European competition. This year is a perfect example of how things can change. Last year's Europa League winner, Tottenham Hotspur, was granted a spot in this season's Champions League, while UEFA granted England an extra place due to its coefficient rating (essentially, a measure of which league is the strongest). As such, there are six Premier League teams in this year's Champions League, which is the highest number of teams from one league to ever make it into what is widely seen as the world's strongest club competition. As for relegation, that's more straightforward: If you finish in the bottom three, your team has to drop down into the second-tier Championship, which will send three teams up for the 2026-27 season. How to watch Premier League 2025-26: TV channel, streaming The entire Premier League schedule during the 2025-26 season will be available on the NBC family of networks. While the exact broadcast schedule for the full season has not been settled, NBC will generally broadcast at least one game per weekend, while USA Network will usually carry two or more. The majority of the action throughout the season will be streamed on Peacock.
