Incredible India: PM Modi's gifts to G7 leaders bring India to the world

India Gazette19-06-2025

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Bringing to the world the beauty and intricacies of Indian craftsmanship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented gifts to world leaders attending the G7 Summit, which took place in Kananaskis, Canada, earlier this week.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a Dokra Nandi to French President Emmanuel Macron, a sandstone replica of the Konark wheel to the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz and a Kolhapuri silver pot to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The beautiful Dokra Nandi, which PM Modi presented to French President Macron, is a Nandi sculpture from Tamil Nadu. A fine mix of traditional metal craft and spiritual art, it is made using the ancient lost-wax method.
It shows Nandi--the sacred bull and companion of Lord Shiva--in a detailed and elegant form. The bull's body has an open lattice design, a signature of Dokra art, and is decorated with fine patterns. A bright red saddle adds a colourful touch to the aged brass look, giving it a rich, ceremonial feel.
Although Dokra art usually comes from eastern India, this piece blends that tribal craft with Tamil Nadu's religious style. In Tamil culture, Nandi stands for strength, patience, and devotion, making this sculpture both artistic and spiritual. Perfect for prayer rooms, meditation areas, or as a cultural decor piece, this one-of-a-kind sculpture celebrates India's diverse heritage and craftsmanship. It's more than decoration--it's a meaningful symbol of tradition and faith.
PM Modi gifted the Chancellor of Germany a stunning Sandstone Konark Wheel replica from Odisha. It is a beautifully carved piece inspired by the famous Sun Temple at Konark. Made from natural sandstone, it carefully copies the detailed design of the original 13th-century wheel, which is both a sundial and a symbol of time, movement, and the universe.
The real Konark Wheel has 24 spokes, often seen as the 24 hours of the day or 12 months of the year, showing the endless cycle of time. This replica includes fine carvings of dancers, gods, and floral patterns, just like the original, showing the skill of Odisha's traditional artists.
More than just decoration, the wheel stands for deep ideas like Dharma (cosmic law) and is even part of India's national flag. Handcrafted using old sculpting methods, this piece reflects the spiritual and cultural richness of Odisha, bringing a sense of timeless beauty and tradition into any space.
For his Australian counterpart, PM Modi presented PM Albanese with a Kolhapuri Silver Pot.
This beautiful Kolhapuri Silver Pot comes from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, a place known for its rich tradition of silver craftsmanship. Made from pure silver, the pot is decorated with detailed floral and paisley designs, all hand-engraved by skilled local artisans.
The pot also has an ornate lid, showing the perfect mix of beauty and function. Such silver pots were once used in temples and royal homes for holding holy water, offerings, or as decorative pieces during special ceremonies.
The designs are inspired by nature, Maratha art, and temple architecture, and made using careful, time-consuming techniques. Kolhapuri silverwork is known for its purity and artistic detail.
Today, these pots are valued not just for their beauty, but also for their cultural and spiritual importance. This silver pot is more than just a container--it's a symbol of Maharashtra's artistic heritage and skilled craftsmanship.
The G7 Summit is an annual gathering of leaders from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union (EU).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Canada to participate in the G7 Summit. His visit was the sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit and his first visit to Canada in a decade. (ANI)

Himanta Sarma Launches 'Emergency Diaries', Calls For Removing 'Secularism, Socialism' From Constitution

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing the media on Saturday at Vajpayee Bhawan, the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati, launched a book titled 'Emergency Diaries', highlighting the resistance and struggle during the Emergency, particularly emphasizing the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Today, we have launched the book Emergency Diaries, which is basically about the struggle and resistance movement during that time organised by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Mr Sarma said. He added that it is now time to erase the legacies of the Emergency period, comparing it with PM Modi's ongoing efforts to remove remnants of colonial rule from Indian systems. "In the same spirit, we must work to wipe out the legacies of the Emergency. Two important legacies from that time are the insertion of the words secularism and socialism into our Constitution," he said. "I believe the word secularism contradicts Sarva Dharma Samabhava, which is a truly Indian concept. Similarly, socialism does not reflect our economic philosophy, which has always been about Sarvodaya and Antyodaya," he said. Launched the book 'Emergency Diaries' which chronicles Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji's life during the emergency and how he resisted the draconian regime and its unlawful practices. 📍 Guwahati — Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) June 28, 2025 Calling the terms foreign impositions, Mr Sarma urged the government of India to consider removing them. "These two words were not part of the original Constitution but were inserted later by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Therefore, I request the government of India to delete the words socialism and secularism from the Preamble of our Constitution," he said.

I wanted everyone who has joined me from other countries to enjoy the rich Indian culinary. All of us had it together and everyone liked it,' he said. The Axiom-4 Mission , carrying Group Captain Shukla and three other crew members , docked with the ISS on June 26. Group Captain Shukla is the second Indian to go into Space. Earlier, following the successful launch of the Axiom 4 mission, PM Modi had stated that Group Captain Shukla is carrying the wishes, hopes and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians. 'We welcome the successful launch of the Space Mission carrying astronauts from India, Hungary, Poland and the US. The Indian Astronaut, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is on the way to become the first Indian to go to International Space Station. He carries with him the wishes, hopes and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians. Wish him and other astronauts all the success!' PM Modi had said in a post on X. Group Captain Shukla had described the launch as 'magical' and reflected on his journey. 'I am thrilled to be here with my fellow astronauts - what a ride it was. Honestly, as I sat in the capsule 'Grace' on the launchpad yesterday after 30 days of quarantine, all I could think was: just go. When the launch finally happened, it was something else entirely. You're pushed back into the seat--and then suddenly, there's silence. You're just floating in the vacuum, and it's magical,' he said. He expressed gratitude to the mission team, calling the experience a 'collective achievement'. 'I truly appreciate the efforts of every individual who made this journey possible. It's not just a personal accomplishment - it belongs to all of us,' he added. Axiom 4 mission aboard the Dragon spacecraft successfully docked at the ISS on Thursday, ahead of schedule, autonomously docking at 4:05 pm (IST) to the space-facing port of the space station's Harmony module. Former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, ESA (European Space Agency) astronauts Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary were part of the crew for the Axiom 4 mission. After his arrival at the ISS, Group Captain Shukla called it a 'privilege' to become the 634th human in space and the first Indian to enter the ISS, saying the experience of seeing Earth from such a vantage point was 'wonderful.' After receiving his official astronaut pin from Ax-4 Mission Commander Peggy Whitson, Shukla said, 'I am no 634, that's a privilege.' 'To be fair, it is a privilege to be amongst the few who have got the chance to see the Earth from a vantage point that I have been able to see now. It has been a wonderful ride. I was looking forward to coming to space--it is something to look forward. But the moment I entered the ISS, I felt welcomed. You (Expedition 73 crew) guys literally opened up your doors like your house doors for us, that was fantastic. The expectations I had were surpassed, so thank you so much; this was fantastic. I am confident the next 14 days are going to be amazing doing science and research,' said Shukla in his 'arrival remarks' after entering the ISS. 'I have a small message for my countrymen: It is because of your love and 'The Tricolour I bear on my shoulder makes me feel as though the entire country is with me. I believe the next 14 days are going to be truly interesting,' he added. The astronauts plan to spend about two weeks aboard the orbiting laboratory, conducting a mission comprised of science, outreach, and commercial activities. Group Captain Shukla will conduct experiments onboard the International Space Station as part of the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4). (ANI)
