Backpacker missing while jogging through the Tomb Raider style temple complex
A backpacker has gone missing after jogging through a Tomb Raider-style temple complex.
Lisa Girard, a French national, was on a solo long-distance run through the ancient Angkor Wat ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia when she suddenly disappeared on Saturday morning.
She was last seen jogging in front of local children along a tree-lined path. Lisa was wearing a blue shirt printed with the word 'Cambodia' and a Cambodian flag in front, while her braided ponytail was held in place with a running headband. It comes after a mum left a 16-month-old baby home alone to die when she went on holiday.
The Siem Reap Tourist Police said: "On August 2, 2025, this morning, there is a French foreigner, who was lost from the group at Tasom Temple point while running a marathon. If you see her, please contact the police."
Lisa's friend, Noemie Martin, said the woman is still missing today, August 4. She said: "Lisa is still missing this morning. If you live in Siem Reap, feel free to go there and look in the forest and small paths around the area.
"She disappeared between Srah Srang lake and the road on the South of Angkor Wat. She was following the road, she was not supposed to run in the forest.
"Please also keep your eyes open in the city, in case you see her somewhere. Lisa has dark long hair, she has some tatoos on the arms, she was wearing a blue T-shirt (see pictures)."
Noemie added they were asking drone operators to assist in the search. Lisa arrived in Cambodia in 2024 after reportedly hitchhiking her way through 15 different countries over four months.
Lisa said she was volunteering for the French non-profit organisation Pour un Smile d'Enfant, which helps disadvantaged and out-of-school Cambodian children learn trades to escape poverty.
She said in August 2023: "Once in Cambodia, I will volunteer for six months for the association Pour un Smile d'Enfant. It allows access to education for Cambodia's poorest children and adolescents."
The Angkor Wat temple complex was the heart of the Khmer Empire in its most powerful period in the 12th century. It was prominently featured in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie.
The scenes were shot at Ta Prohm temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where towering trees grow out of the ruins of the sacred building.

UK botanic garden named 'most beautiful in Europe' with over 50,000 plants
Europe's most beautiful botanic gardens have been revealed and one breathtaking attraction in the UK has beaten out rivals thanks to its incredible array of plants Brits looking to get inspired for their next days out may want to consider a trip to London, which has been revealed as the home of 'Europe's most beautiful botanic garden'. The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew have topped a new list in a study looking at visitor reviews, boasting a perfect score from holidaymakers looking for staycation ideas. Kew is already on most green thumbed Brits' bucket lists. Its new ranking comes after one seaside walk was named the best wildflower trail in the UK. That Kew Gardens is so popular is no surprise. After all, the UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts over 50,000 living plants, not to mention its iconic Victorian glasshouse that's home to 10 climate zones (keep an eye out for the carnivorous plants to be found in the tropical section!). Kew Gardens is already a firm favourite with visitors and it often features on round-ups of 'must-visit' destinations in London. "Completely exceeded our expectations," one happy holidaymaker wrote in a TripAdvisor review. "I can't understand anyone giving this place a low score at all. I like plants, but would not consider myself a big enthusiast, yet found Kew really interesting - a fabulous day out. "The lily building and the Prince of Wales buildings were particularly memorable. Parking was cheap and easy. We took a picnic so can't give any insight regarding food/drink options I'm afraid. We had our two teenage sons with us, who you might not think would enjoy plants/gardens, but it was honestly one of the most enjoyable days out we have had!" The attraction hosts a wide array of events throughout the year too whether that's themed exhibitions, treasure trails for kids, Halloween themed nights or its annual Christmas lights trail. Meanwhile its newly-opened 'Carbon Garden' has been drawing in crowds, with the aim of showcasing the "critical role carbon plays in sustaining life on Earth, communicating the scale of the climate crisis, and sharing the extraordinary potential of the natural world to combat it". If you're already tempted to have a look, then its new crown as Europe's most beautiful botanic garden might help tip the scales in favour of a visit. To determine the best botanic gardens, researchers at Saga Holidays looked at a variety of factors including how often these spots were described as 'beautiful' or 'peaceful', to analyse the 'average sentiment of reviews'. Each garden was given a Weighted Rank by combining its average review sentiment and keyword score equally - and Kew Gardens came top with a perfect score of 100 out of 100. The team behind the study explained: "Crowned Europe's most gorgeous garden, Kew Gardens has almost 85,000 mentions of beauty in its reviews and a perfect weighted rank score of 100, reflecting its popularity and high sentiment among visitors. Home to the world's largest and most diverse collections of plants and fungi, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has over 50,000 different living plants and more than 7 million preserved specimens."

King Charles appeared alongside him on a special episode in 2022. West Mercia Police confirmed charges against the dad of three, with a magistrates' court date set for next Wednesday. A spokesperson said: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. "He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' Blades was awarded an MBE in 2022 for services to craft while King Charles appeared on the Repair Shop the same year. The TV star is currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of controlling and coercive behaviour against estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he has denied. Blades was arrested in May 2024 - on the same day fitness instructor Lisa announced her decision to end their 18-month marriage. In September Blades was charged. His actions allegedly caused Lisa 'to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against her'. The presenter pleaded not guilty to the charge — which relates to the period between January 1, 2023 and September 12, 2024 — at a court hearing last October. He is due to attend Worcester crown court today for a pre-trial review regarding the charge. Blades, who married Lisa in an intimate ceremony in Barbados in November 2022, took a break from filming following his arrest. Sources said the decision was also linked to the death of his uncle Richard Braithwaite, 72, in North London in March. A neighbour has been charged with murder. Blades was also dropped from The Repair Shop's live show, Secrets From The Barn, and quietly removed from promotional material. His Repair Shop co-star, horologist Steve Fletcher, revealed in March he had visited Blades while on a break from the live tour. Steve shared a photograph of himself with Blades on Instagram with the caption: 'In a break from our 'Secrets From the Barn' Tour, I popped in to see Jay the other day for a cup of tea and a lovely chat. 'It was great to catch up. Hope to see him again soon.' The BBC later replaced Blades with Roman Kemp for the Christmas special of the popular series. Blades also resigned as chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University 'with immediate effect' following the initial charge. It said: 'We thank Jay for his loyal service to the university and will be making no further comment.' As well as fronting The Repair Shop since 2017, Blades also hosted BBC shows including Money For Nothing and Jay Blades' Home Fix. He also appeared as a contestant on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special and fronted a special BBC documentary, Jay Blades: Learning to Read at 51. 4 King Charles appeared alongside Blades on a special episode in 2022 Credit: BBC/Ricochet/Ian West
