Furious Crystal Palace fans launch UEFA protest amid club's Europa League appeal

Independent23-07-2025
Crystal Palace fans protested UEFA 's decision to demote their club from the Europa League to the Conference League.
The demotion was due to a breach of multi-club ownership rules, specifically concerning co-owner John Textor's involvement with both Palace and Lyon.
Members of the Holmesdale Fanatics travelled to UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, to hand-deliver a letter to president Aleksander Ceferin demanding the ruling be overturned.
The fan group also presented UEFA with a suitcase of fake money, symbolising perceived contradictions in the organisation's values and conduct.
Following the protest, Palace lodged an appeal against UEFA, Nottingham Forest, and Lyon with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with a decision anticipated by 11 August.

Send your pictures and stories of why you love Palace

On Monday, we asked you to tell us why you fell in love with Crystal Palace and some of your favourite moments supporting have already been getting in touch with your photos and stories and here is just a taste from Brian:"First game v QPR 1967. Selhurst Park consisted of: a main stand, Holmesdale was 75% terraces, Park Road was 50% mud and Whitehorse was 75% mud. A 3-3 draw and love at first sight. "A promotion season followed to a first-ever first division season with a budget Burt Head team and saw every home game . First away game was a terrifying trip tp Goodison Park where I learnt 'cockneys' are not liked north of Watford. A 3-1 thrashing but a Kember scorcher as a consolation."By the time 'Big Mal' took us to the third division, I was working and could afford a season ticket. Thanks to Maurice Drewitt's travel club, I became a home and away stalwart. We were hiring and filling entire trains and going to exotic places such as the Shay, Halifax. Every Third Division club had a record attendance when Palace were in town and many were like home games. So followed 52,000 at Selhurst, the team of the 80s and the usual collapse."What other team has had such a rollercoaster existence? Hardly a dull season and a loyal local fanbase, proud of our south London roots. Palace has not been part of my life but they have been my whole life."Join the conversation and send your best photos about why you love the first visit to the stadium? A special kit? On Monday, we asked you to tell us why you fell in love with Chelsea and some of your favourite moments supporting have already been getting in touch with your photos and stories and here is just a taste from Ross:"My dad was Chelsea through and through and made me fall in love with this wonderful club. He took me to my first game at Stamford Bridge, which was the Gianfranco Zola tribute match against Real Zaragoza. Got to see the magician play in blue for the last time!"Now I get to take my son, and create memories of our own. His first game at the Bridge was pre-season against Inter Milan last season - Enzo Maresca's first home game in charge. That was followed by FA Cup and Conference League games, and even managed to get tickets for home league game against Ipswich!"Can't wait for this season - hopefully many more games to witness live together."Join the conversation and send your best photos about why you love the first visit to the stadium? Send your pictures and stories of why you love West Ham

On Monday, we asked you to tell us why you fell in love with West Ham and some of your favourite moments supporting have already been getting in touch with your photos and stories and here is just a taste from Daniel:"I never enjoyed football as a child - it was never really my thing. My dad supported Tottenham (because of the rest of his family supported Arsenal) and my mum supported Manchester United (because she fancied David Beckham), but neither were able to name the managers of their teams. So growing up, it was never on the TV so I never watched anyone play."That was until friends I made in my early teens started to meet up after school and watch West Ham under-18s matches, so it became a regular social event. This is when football became interesting. Seeing the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Michael Carrick move up to the first team made us want to follow them and we realised it's a whole other level."Since then there have been tears and cheers, non-stop meeting up and making new friends to talk about transfers and everything else West Ham until the next matchday."I got to see them promoted back to the Premier League in my only ever visit to Wembley and travelled 14 hours by car to Prague to be there for the Conference League final with my friends (who all flew) because I'm afraid to fly."West Ham have made some amazing memories over the years and has given me reason to travel up and down the country to enjoy myself. Watching West Ham win, lose, draw and lose again, and it is something I have started to do with my young children. It gives me something to pass on and look forward to in years to come."So join the conversation and send your best photos about why you love the first visit to the stadium? A special kit?
