Irishwoman went through ‘absolute nightmare' after alleged rape in Amsterdam, court told
An Irishwoman in her 30s who was allegedly raped in Amsterdam says she remembers nothing of the incident, a public prosecutor told a pre-trial hearing for the case.
The suspect, who is an Italian national in his 20s, is accused of raping the woman on King's Day earlier this year.
The Dutch holiday, which is held annually on April 27, marks the birthday of the Netherlands' current king Willem-Alexander.
According to Dutch media, the hearing heard that after the woman was taken to the hospital following the incident, which occured at approximately 6.30pm in the evening, she was told that something sexual had happened to her.
She was then unable to recall anything about the incident and she did not recognise a photo of the suspect.

The case has garnered national attention in the Netherlands after several videos of the incident began circulating on social media.
Onlookers had filmed the encounter that occurred in broad daylight between two parked cars along the Keizersgracht canal.
In the days following the alleged rape, the mayor of Amsterdam asked the public to stop sharing the 'deeply humiliating' videos.
"What happened on King's Day can only be described as an absolute nightmare", the prosecution stated in the first introductory hearing ahead of the trial.
They stated that the alleged victim only reported the incident after she had been videos of it in Ireland and realised it was about her.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the woman was clear that she did not want to have sex and she 'had no complete control over her movements'.
The woman was heavily drunk and was heard telling the man to stop in the video footage of the incident.
It was said that the man and the woman did not know each other before the day in the question as they had met earlier that day.
Bystanders intervened in the incident and pulled the man away from the woman, with police then arriving soon after. The man was not initially arrested as it had been suggested by bystanders that the two knew each other.
The man initially told police that the two had sex and 'made love' but later stated he did not remember anything about the evening in question.
Defence lawyer Sophie Hof described the situation as 'complex' and passersby may have been observing due to seeing two people 'kissing and stroking'.
"This case is not black or white. He doesn't remember anything. He is ashamed, towards the victim, and how he could get so drunk,' she added.
The court was asked to lift the pre-trial detention of the man but the request was not granted on the basis that the man is a flight risk. The trial will begin in October.

‘Everyone is in shock' – Community horrified as mum and two children killed in suspected murder
The three victims of the Maguiresbridge shooting have been named as Vanessa Whyte, originall from Clare, and her two children, James and Sarah. A tightknit Clare community has reacted with horror to the news a local mother was killed alongside her two children in a suspected Fermanagh murder-attempted suicide. The three victims of the Maguiresbridge shooting have been named as Vanessa Whyte and her two children, James and Sarah. All three died having suffered gunshot injuries at a property on the Drummeer Road yesterday morning in Maguiresbridge. A man in his 40s, who also suffered gunshot wounds, remains in a serious condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Ms Whyte, who is in her 40s, is originally from Ennis in Co Clare. The PSNI has issued a direct appeal to anyone the victims of the shooting "may have confided in" prior to their deaths. A murder investigation has now been launched with police today asking to speak to anyone who may have spoken to Vanessa or her children in the weeks prior to their deaths. In an update this morning, Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness said: 'Our investigation is continuing and I am keen to reiterate our appeal for anyone with information to get in touch. 'I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who had spoken to Vanessa, Sara or James over the last few weeks. If you are someone that Vanessa, Sara or James may have confided in, please come and speak to us.' Vanessa Whyte with her two children James and Sara. Councillor Mary Howard, who is from Ennis and knows the Whyte family, said the entire community was in deep shock over the realisation a local family is connected to the Fermanagh tragedy. "I only heard this morning about the Clare connection to the Fermanagh tragedy and everyone here is in shock," she said. "No one can believe that a young mother and her two beautiful children could lose their lives in such circumstances - it really is heartbreaking." Councillor Howard extended her deepest sympathies to the Whyte family on their loss. "All I can say is that they will be in our thoughts and prayers over the coming days," she said. "On behalf of the local community, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to them on this tragedy." Ms Whyte was said to be an ardent Gaelic games fan. Her two children were involved with Fermanagh GAA clubs. Ennis GAA sources said she would regularly attend Banner County hurling championship matches over the years - attending matches in Ennis, Thurles and Croke Park. One local said she was "over the moon" when Clare beat Cork to win the Liam McCarthy Cup last year. News in 90 Seconds - July 24th During a media briefing yesterday afternoon, Superintendent Robert McGowan said the person in hospital is a male adult who has a 'limited footprint' with police. The officer added there is a 'limited domestic history' involving those in the household and that police were alerted from inside the house. He said: 'The alarm was raised, I believe, by a phone call made from the house.' The PSNI said it is 'not anticipated at this stage that any further arrests will be made'. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it received a 999 call at 8.21am and dispatched three emergency ambulances, one rapid response paramedic, two ambulance officers and an ambulance doctor to the scene. Supt McGowan, who is the local district commander, stated that detectives are treating the case as a possible triple murder and attempted suicide. Investigators are also examining whether mental health played a role in the tragedy. Ms Whyte and her children were "active and beloved' members of both St Mary's Maguiresbridge Gaelic Football Club and Lisbellaw St. Patrick's Hurling Club in the area. Both organisations said they are 'working with the GAA at county, provincial and national level, to implement the Association's critical incident protocols'. Ms Whyte also volunteered as the Coaching Officer at the hurling club, and helped with its underage training sessions. She was previously praised for her dedication to the club's development. Sinn Féin MP for the area Pat Cullen told the BBC's Good Morning Ulster programme this morning: 'There's just a feeling of disbelief in the community and certainly amongst ourselves. To say we're absolutely heartbroken is really an understatement, I don't think any of us can find words. 'Two wee children have lost their lives, and a mummy, when they should just be enjoying the school holidays and having a wonderful time. You can see from the tributes that they belonged to the local Lisbellaw hurling club and St Mary's Gaelic club and they were really a part of the community, the fabric of the community. 'The people here are almost silent, we were in the community yesterday, and you could almost see mothers holding tightly to their young children as they stood. 'The one thing that I will say about Maguiresbridge and the people in it: the churches, the Gaelic clubs ; and wider community will definitely wrap their arms around each other and get through this.' Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill said she was 'heartbroken' following the news. "My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the local community,' she wrote online. "I have no doubt that the people of Maguiresbridge will come together and support one another though this incredibly difficult time.' Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly described the incident as 'terrible news'. "Truly devastating to hear of this terrible and violent event,' she wrote. 'My thoughts at this dreadful time are with the loved ones, family and friends but most of all for the tragedy of the lives cut off so cruelly." Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn said his thoughts are with the victims, families of the deceased and the local community following the 'deeply distressing' tragedy. 'I would urge the public not to speculate and to allow the PSNI to continue their investigation,' he added. Dame Arlene Foster – who grew up and still lives in Co Fermanagh – described the incident as a 'horrific act'.

Drug lord and Kinahan ally jailed for six years over cocaine trafficking
Mink Kok, known as 'The Thinker' was originally arrested in Lebanon in 2022. Mink Kok, Dutch associate of Christy Kinahan Snr, has been jailed for six years by a court in The Hague over the importation of cocaine. Dutch media reports that the drug lord appealled the decision after the Dutch Public Prosecution Service originally sought to put him away in prison for nine years. The appeal resulted in his acquittal of the 'actual importation' of the drugs in question. Kok, however, was found guilty of preparing for the import of 400 kilos of cocaine, alongside the possession of cocaine, as well as preparing a drug lab. Known commonly 'The Thinker', he was arrested in Lebanon in 2022 with his son-in-law, where he stayed for a year. Christy Kinahan Snr Up to February 2016, he had been behind bars in the Middle-East country after a conviction for possession of 53 kilos of cocaine. The convicted kingpin has previously been labelled 'boss of the cocaine world' and is known for having a 'long history' in the criminal underworld. The 400-kilo consignment of cocaine for which Kok was convicted had arrived in 2020 via the port of Antwerp in a consignment of bananas. However, the shipment was somehow mislaid and was eventually found at a supermarket in Remscheid, Germany. The convicted drug trafficker and gun runner had struck up a close working relationship with Christy Kinahan Snr when they were both based in Amsterdam in the 1990s. Veteran Dutch drug lord, Mink Kok News in 90 Seconds - July 24th It is believed the pair worked together to import millions of euro worth of cocaine and ecstasy into Ireland and the UK. Kok's son-in-law, named only as Najim Z, is also accused by the Public Prosecution Service of being behind the importation from South America of two batches of 750 and 840 kilos of cocaine. These were intercepted in 2021 in the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam. According to the justice officials, evidence against Kok stems from intercepted Sky ECC messages. There was no Sky telephone found with Kok when he was arrested, but detectives say that the investigation against Kok started after he admitted to a TV programme that he used Sky telephones to communicate with others. His lawyer previously denied that Kok was the user of the two Sky phones attributed to him. His son-in-law Najim Z (42) was previously sentenced for those two coke shipments in a separate case. He was handed down an eight-year prison sentence minus time spent in pre-detention and a detention period in Lebanon. However, prosecutors have demanded another 12 years in prison against him two weeks ago in the case which is completely separate from that of Kok's. Various media have referred to Najim Z based on various judicial or police sources as a 'leader' in Ridouan Taghi's network. Dutch-Moroccan Taghi is regarded as one of Europe's biggest drugs traffickers and is a key associate of the Kinahan Cartel. He was one of a number of high-profile criminals who were guests at Daniel Kinahan's wedding in Dubai in 2017. Along with a number of his associates, Taghi is currently facing multiple charges ranging from assassinations, attempted killings, and murder plots. Lawyers for Najim Z have previously contested that their client should be considered as 'the financial man' in Taghi's drug network.

‘One of the most astonishing PR moves in tennis history' – Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner slammed for coach decision
JANNIK SINNER has rehired the fitness coach that played a key role in his failed drugs tests last year. Prior to winning Wimbledon this summer, 3 Jannik Sinner has reunited with fitness coach Umberto Ferrara Credit: Getty 3 Sinner, 23, recently defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final Credit: Getty Sinner's explanation was that a spray purchased over-the-counter in Italy by fitness coach Umberto Ferrara had been used by physio Giacomo Naldi to treat a cut. Naldi is then said to have contaminated Sinner with the substance while massaging his feet. The world No1 was not initially suspended, and in August last year an International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) tribunal determined that he bore "no fault or negligence" for the contamination. Following the decision, Sinner axed both Ferrara and Naldi and went on to win the US Open and Australian Open. READ MORE IN SPORT The Italian went on to hire Novak Djokovic's former fitness team Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio - but parted with both prior to his Wimbledon triumph. Sinner has since filled the vacancy by turning back to Ferrara, in a decision that has raised eyebrows among the tennis community. Former doubles Grand Slam champion Paul McNamee wrote on X: "Jannik Sinner rehiring Umberta Ferrara has to be up there as one of the most astonishing PR moves in tennis history. You can afford to hire anyone in the world. Why oh why Jannik?" Sinner eventually served a three-month ban after this year's Australian Open following the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) decision to appeal the ITIA's previous verdict to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Most read in Tennis BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Prior to the appeal reaching a courtroom, an agreement was reached between WADA and Sinner for the reigning No1 to serve a three-month ban - which enabled him to return in time for his home tournament in Rome, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Upon axing Ferrara and Naldi last August, Sinner said: "I'm not feeling that confident to continue with them." Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner interrupted as umpire forced to make 'most Wimbledon announcement ever' Since then, Ferrara appeared to attempt to shift the blame towards Naldi during an interview with Italian outlet Sinner's fitness coach said: "I very clearly communicated to Naldi both the nature of the product, and the fact that it must not come into contact with Jannik for any reason." He then went onto add: "I suggested that he use it because he had a cut on his finger that wasn't healing and was affecting his work. I only allowed it to be used in my personal bathroom. "Naldi did not deny being told about it, but he said he did not remember." Confirming Ferrara's return to the team, a Sinner statement read: "Jannik Sinner has reappointed Umberto Ferrara as his fitness coach with immediate effect. "The decision has been made in alignment with Jannik's management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and U.S. Open. 'Umberto has played an important role in Jannik's development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level.' Sinner has withdrawn from next week's Masters 1000 event in Canada. The Wimbledon champion is next scheduled to appear in Cincinnati, before his US Open title defence begins next month. 3 Physio Giacomo Naldi, left, and Ferrara, middle, were axed from the team last August Credit: Getty
