Double-ACL injury or not, this Cowboy is sleeper at the TE position for 2025
There's a temptation to name Spann-Ford the sleeper of the TE room, but his buzz has been so active, and the hype has been so prevalent, he's become the furthest thing from a sleeper. Spann-Ford is expected to earn similar snaps to Schoonmaker and there's hope he'll eventually compete for TE1 someday in the not-too-distant future. He's too good of a prospect and too forefront on the minds of Cowboys Nation to be a sleeper.
No, the sleeper is a player Cowboys fans know but might have forgotten. He's a player who's flashed playmaking ability in the past but injuries and circumstances have always gotten in the way of opportunity. He's a player, who even now, could shine in training camp and force the Cowboys to go four-deep at the TE position in 2025. It's John Stephens, Jr.
At 6-foot-5, 221-pounds, Stephens is the leanest TE on the Dallas roster. A converted receiver, Stephens displays pass catching ability the others do not on this roster. It's those plays downfield that's allowed the 25-year-old to stand out in previous training camps and it's what earned him a place on the team just one season ago.
Unfortunately for Stephens, his 2024 season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a torn ACL in practice late October. It's the same knee and same injury as a year before and may even delay the start to his 2025 campaign as a result. If anyone has earned sleeper status, it's Stephens.
Fellow TE Princton Fant has the inside track on TE4 if such a roster spot is made. And new undrafted rookie free agents Rivaldo Fairweather and Tyler Neville have the years of controllability working in their favor. But it's Stephens who makes the plays downfield others don't. It's Stephens who already has a relationship with Dak Prescott and it's Stephens who Brian Schottenheimer is most familiar.
Stephens may never be a do-everything every down TE but he's a situational weapon who's able to shine downfield as a pass catcher. If he can get a clean bill of health and be a full participant in training camp, he's the sleeper to watch from the TE position in 2025

Kirk Herbstreit has high praise for one of Notre Dame's potential starting quarterbacks
While he's often impartial with Notre Dame, that doesn't seem to be the case with Kirk Herbstreit and one of the potential starting quarterbacks. In a post shared by FootballScoop's John Brice at the Personnel and Recruiting Symposium, the former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN analyst loves what he has seen from CJ Carr. Herbstreit said 'there's something about this CJ Carr. I'm super-high on him.' It's great that a national voice has high hopes for one of the potential starting quarterbacks, as Kenny Minchey is still battling Carr for the spot. It's pretty obvious from what we have seen that the second-year player has a much higher ceiling than his counterpart. Head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock have both been non-committal to either one of them, as the competition continues on this fall. They'll eventually have to pick one, and if Herbstreit has his way, it will be Carr that gets the nod. Three Auburn Tigers named to Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List'
Three Tigers have caught the eye of Bruce Feldman early. A trio of Auburn Tigers have landed on college football insider Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List' for the 2025 college football season. The list, which Feldman created in 2005, "chronicles the strongest, fastest and most physical players in college football." Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk (No. 9) was the lone Tiger represented among the top 50 players. The Tigers dynamic receiving duo of Cam Coleman (No. 52) and Eric Singleton Jr. (No. 73) rounded out the representation from Hugh Freeze's squad. A team caption in 2025, Keldic Faulk is coming off a breakout season as a sophomore on the Plains. His 7 sacks landed just outside of the top 10 among pass rushers in the conference while he finished second to only Jalen McLeod (8) on the team. With a trio of multi-sack games included a two-sack effort against Georgia, Faulk catapulted himself into the first round conversation in 2026 NFL mock drafts. Feldman listed Faulk's 80 total tackles through two seasons as a major reason he landed in the top 10, as well as the fact the 6-foot-6, 285-pound edge rusher can squat 700 pounds this offseason and bench press 415 pounds despite the fact he is yet to turn 20 years old. Sophomore pass catcher Cam Coleman received the honor as the best offensive player from Auburn ranked on Feldman's list. The Phenix City, Alabama native struggled to stay on the field during the former half of his first college football campaign, but exploded in the second half, securing 6 touchdowns and over 300 yards in his final three games. While the 6-foot-3, big-body receiver was outshined by fellow freshman pass catchers Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams, Coleman showed the promise that made him a five-star recruit just a short year ago. Along with his statistics from a year ago, Coleman's 23 mph top speed is considered truly elite. The final Tiger represented in Feldman's rankings has yet to play a significant snap on the Plains. Transfer pass catcher Eric Singleton Jr., who accumulated 9 touchdowns and just under 1,500 receiving yards over two seasons with Georgia Tech, was ranked at No. 73 by Feldman for one main reason. Speed. As the insider writes, "Pound for pound, the former 5-10, 180-pound Georgia state champion in the 100, 200 and 400 meters is very strong." There is no denying Hugh Freeze has talent on his squad heading into the 2025 campaign later this month. With a pair of freak playmakers on the offensive side of the ball and one of the best pass rushers in the country, the Tigers have the athletes to keep themselves in any contest this season. Whether that talent translates into tallies in the win column remains to be seen.
