Melaka woman jailed nine months for death of unborn child involving abortion pills
According to Kosmo!, magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd. Suleiman handed down the sentence after the accused, Norazzeti Azima Awang Long, pleaded guilty when the charge was read out in court.
According to the charge sheet, she had taken the drug misoprostol with the intent to induce an abortion with the intention of preventing a live birth.
The offence occurred around 10pm on 12 May 2025 in a room at a unit in Imperio Residence Tower A, Melaka Tengah.
The accused faced a maximum of 10 years' jail, or a fine, or both under Section 315 of the Penal Code if found guilty.
Case facts revealed that she had initially gone to Melaka Hospital for breast engorgement, claiming she had suffered a miscarriage.
However, she later admitted to taking abortion pills bought via TikTok and gave the foetus to a friend for burial.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syaza Nur Sharif urged the court to impose a custodial sentence, citing widespread social concerns.
Defence lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab. Malek appealed for a lenient sentence, noting that his client earned RM1,800 a month working at a café, and supported her 76-year-old father and two school-going siblings.
He said she had taken the pills after repeated pressure from her boyfriend.
The court ordered the sentence to begin from the date of her arrest on May 19.

2 Turkish nationals missing after yacht capsizes off Terengganu

(Facebook pic) KUALA TERENGGANU : Two Turkish nationals are missing after a sailing yacht capsized in stormy waters near Pulau Yu on Tuesday, while another was rescued after drifting at sea for 25 hours. Terengganu maritime director Hamiludin Che Awang said the yacht, Daisy, had departed Pulau Tioman, Pahang, bound for Pattani, Thailand, when it overturned about 30 nautical miles from Pulau Yu. 'One victim, Ates Demiroren, was rescued by a local tugboat crew, while the yacht's captain and another man remain unaccounted for,' he said in a statement tonight. A search and rescue operation was activated at 3pm today, with patrol vessel Perkasa 48 deployed to the site. Those with information are urged to contact the Terengganu maritime operations centre at 013-7464357. Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said the men aboard the yacht were on a cross-continent voyage from Malaysia to Turkey. He also identified the yacht captain as Ahmed Volkan Ata and the missing crew member as Eser Demirkol. He said before the incident, Ahmed brought the Daisy from Port Jackson Bay, Sydney, Australia and docked in Kuantan Port, Pahang, where he met up with the other two crew members, from Krabi, Thailand, and Singapore. 'On July 28, at 5pm, the Daisy started its voyage for the first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand,' he said in a statement. He also said Ates is reported to be in a weak condition and is being treated at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

Man disappears after foraging trip near Miri — search enters second day
MIRI, Aug 3 — A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation resumed today for a 44-year-old man reported missing while foraging for jungle vegetables along the bypass road near the Miri Bus Terminal Station last Friday. Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the family of the victim, Udil Lutan, filed a missing person report on Saturday after he failed to return home. 'According to the report, Udil had contacted a family member at around 8.30pm on Friday asking to be picked up at a location. 'However, when the family member arrived at the said location, the victim was nowhere to be found despite a search of the area,' he said. Mohd Farhan said a search on Saturday failed to locate Udil and was postponed in the evening before being resumed at 8am today. Apart from the police, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force, as well as Udil's family are also involved in the SAR, he added.
