The Bairns won back-to-back promotions under their experienced boss and the fans watched the Championship flag being unfurled before the game, marking their return to the top flight after a 15-year absence.
On-loan Barnsley forward Max Watters scored his first United goal in the 39th minute with a terrific volley, but midfielder Dylan Tait levelled in the 50th minute with a fine finish.
Ivan Dolcek restored the Tannadice side's lead in the 71st minute with his first goal for the club before home defender Ethan Ross equalised with a deflected strike two minutes later for a deserved share of the spoils.
McGlynn said: 'I don't think we've got our eyes closed. We know that the margins are finer in this league.
'We'll all look to learn from that and we will need to learn from that. But there's so many positives to take.
'A lot of these players have played in League One, they've stepped up to the Championship dealt with that, and today, I think they looked like Premiership players against Premiership players.
'We were 15 years out of it, the same group of players almost, stepping up to the challenge, 5700 season tickets.
'Dundee United filled their allocation as well. So great atmosphere.
'People want to come and be entertained. That was entertainment. That was definitely entertainment.'
United boss Jim Goodwin was proud of his under-strength side's efforts in gaining a point after they had advanced to the Conference League third qualifying round against Rapid Wien with a 2-0 aggregate win over Luxembourg side UNA Strassen on Thursday night.
He said: 'It's really strange to be sitting here on the opening day of the season and talking about the number of injuries we have.
'But there's no getting away from it. There's no excuses here.
'We're missing some real key players. Our captain and vice-captain, Ross Graham and Will Ferry. Ferry was a suspension.
'Ryan Strain, Amar Fatah and Kristijan Trapanovski were all missing and they can be great options for us off the bench or starting the game.
'A draw away from home, more often than not in this league, is not a bad result.
'On the back of us playing in Europe on Thursday, with the short turnaround and the lack of recovery time, I think we've got to be satisfied with a point.
'It was only a couple of years ago we were travelling to Arbroath to kick off the Championship season.
'In the space of two years, we're slightly disappointed to pick up a point on the opening day of the Premiership but looking forward to a game in Europe against Rapid Wien.
'When you put things in perspective, we've come a long way in a short period of time.'
Ferry will be back from suspension for the midweek trip to Austria and Goodwin hopes some others will be available, although Trapanovski will see a specialist about his hamstring problem on Monday.

I don't like the word ‘dropped', explains Rangers boss Russell Martin as he hails Antman, Tavernier and Euro heroes

Rangers dumped Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the Champions League qualifier at Ibrox, with Martin benching skipper James Tavernier and Nico Raskin. Cyriel Dessers also netted from the penalty spot after a trip on debutant Oliver Antman. But boss Martin insisted he'll need ALL of his squad if Gers are to savour success this term. He said: "I don't like the word 'dropped'. "I told the guys before the game 'You don't get dropped from the team'. "We are going to need everyone and people are going to come in and out "It's not easy to drop anyone, especially players who have been important to this team. "They are all difficult decisions but you have to do what you think is the best way to win the game. "But those guys came on and played brilliantly and that's all you can ask for. "I know there is a tendency up here that one thing becomes a big thing very quickly. Motherwell and Rangers fans displays ahead of Premiership opener "It's not that at all. There will be a different team on Saturday and we have to rely on a lot of players. "I'm really happy with a lot of it, although we got a bit sloppy in the last 15 minutes. "From Saturday to Tuesday, they took everything on. "There was amazing energy from the start, there was a lot of quality and I'm proud of the team. Specifically on leaving out captain Tavernier, the boss added: "He was great. "I say my piece and if they have a piece to say it's really respectful and really honest. "The way he played when he came on said everything that needs to be said. "There has been no problem and I don't envisage there being any problems going forward." Gassama scored in each half with Dessers netting just moments before the interval. Dessers said: "Oliver and Djeidi are young, exciting players. It's a pleasure to play with them. "It's good that we got them in and they will continue to grow. 5 Oliver Antman of Rangers FC hugs Russell Martin Credit: Getty "You always need to have this motivation. "It's easy to have that for the European and the Old Firm games. "But you need to have it for every league game too because there are no easy games. "We need to pick up our level there as well." Finnish winger Antman added: "The atmosphere and stadium was great. "We played some good football and the win is the most important thing. "I felt at home in the team. This is a great place to continue from and we need to do that at the weekend. 5 Rangers manager Russell Martin and Viktoria Plzen coach Miroslav Koubek before the match Credit: Reuters "It won't be easy in the second leg against Plzen but we want to finish the job because it's not done." On the flying Finn's debut, boss Martin added: "You can see why we wanted to sign him. "He's athletic, he's game, he's willing and he's really competitive. "There are moments of real quality too and he will be a really good player for us. "Gass is really stepping up with his intensity to get into the back post and I want 'winger to winger' goals. "Cyriel was amazing. He took the ball in well and he was brilliant." Plzen coach Miroslav Koubek said: "Rangers played very well and they were, unfortunately, better than us." Rangers player ratings: Smiling assassin, two 9

Rangers have one foot in the play-off round of the Champions League after a comprehensive 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen at Ibrox. Russell Martin's men head to Czechia next week with a commanding advantage in this third qualifying round tie and are landslide favourites to face either Club Brugge or Salzburg later this month. Stung by criticism from Martin after starting the Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw at Motherwell on Saturday, Rangers put in a vastly improved performance in front of 45,000 fans. The manager dropped captain James Tavernier and popular midfielder Nicolas Raskin, but both decisions were vindicated. New signing Oliver Antman was handed a debut and impressed as a right winger, but the star of the show once again was Djeidi Gassama on the other flank. He scored twice and is already the darling of the home support. The young Frenchman opened the scoring on 15 minutes after good link-up from Cyriel Dessers and the Nigerian striker, on his first start of the season, converted a penalty right on half-time after a foul on Antman. Rangers bagged a third on 51 minutes when Gassama headed home an Antman cross and while the hosts could have scored more, they head into next Tuesday's second leg with a commanding advantage against limited opposition. We give each player a mark out of ten for their performance at Ibrox. 1 . Jack Butland Quiet night. A cultured fellow, he may as well have visited and spent the first half reading all of The Scotsman's excellent Edinburgh festival reviews via our generous subscription package. First save was a trundler on 55 minutes and then had to put the iPad down when Plzen rallied to some extent towards the end. 6 | SNS Group Photo Sales 2 . Max Aarons Moved to his more natural position of right-back for this match, taking the place of dropped captain Tavernier. Had a couple of hairy defensive moments but looked far more comfortable on this flank. Sent a lovely pass through to Antman that led to the third goal. Hobbled off on 75 minutes for Tavernier after taking a kick. 7 | PA Photo Sales 3 . Jefte First competitive start under Martin. Having a natural left-back on the pitch gave Rangers much more balance. Steady enough performance and his only blot on the copybook was being booked on 41 minutes for a lunging foul after a poor touch. 6 | PA Photo Sales 4 . Nasser Djiga A very likeable performance from the Wolves loanee. More assured on the ball than Souttar and won almost all of his physical duels. Great block to deny a certain Vydra goal on 19 minutes when the scoreline was deadlocked. Looks like one of Rangers' better summer signings. 8 | SNS Group Photo Sales Related topics: Scottish Premiership

Wrexham AFC Unveils New Third Kit Honouring Welsh Heritage in Patagonia

Wrexham AFC has unveiled a 2025/26 third kit which pays tribute to the Welsh community in Patagonia on the 160th anniversary of the first settlers' arrival. Inspired by the flag of Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement in Argentina, the new design aims to celebrate the cultural ties between Wales and Patagonia, which is home to the largest Welsh-speaking community outside of Wales. The kit launch is accompanied by a new short film from Wrexham AFC and United, featuring two choirs — one perched on a cliff in Wales, the other in Patagonia — singing Yma o Hyd. The collaboration draws inspiration from United's REUNITED documentary, featured in Welcome to Wrexham Season 3. The film followed Patagonians with Welsh heritage as they travelled to Wrexham for the first time. 'This new third kit is a powerful tribute to our shared heritage with the Welsh community in Patagonia,' said Wrexham AFC CEO Michael Williamson. 'Through its celebration of Y Wladfa, it honours a 160-year bond rooted in resilience, identity, and pride – all values that continue to shape Wrexham AFC today. As we look to the future, we remain deeply connected to our past.' Based on the colours of the Patagonia flag, the new shirt features dragon outlines within the blue Argentinian stripes, a Welsh dragon on the nape and the words 'Don't forget where you came from' on an internal tape around the hem. The collar of the shirt is a white crew neck edged in red, as are the sleeve cuffs. The front features the Macron Hero and Wrexham AFC crest, both applied in heat-transferred silicone, and the United logo across the middle. Sleeve sponsors HP and back-of-shirt sponsors Meta Quest are also featured. The third kit is completed by white shorts with light blue stripes along the thigh edges and red details, and by socks featuring horizontal light blue and white bands, finished with a white top edge and a central red horizontal stripe. 'The kit, conceived as a tribute to Y Wladfa, completes a Game Set for Wrexham AFC that we are truly proud of and that we hope will inspire the team to many achievements in the upcoming season,' said Macron CEO Gianluca Pavanello. 'At Macron, what really sets us apart in designing kits for our partner clubs is the freedom to start from a completely blank canvas. With the home, away and third kits for 2025/26 season, we feel we have truly captured the spirit and identity of the club, blending tradition with innovation, all while keeping quality at the heart of everything we do.' 'We're excited to see the emotion of Reunited live on in this new kit and short film,' said United Airlines Chief Advertising Officer Maggie Schmerin. 'Connecting people is at the heart of what we do and the symbolism of the Y Wladfa flag on the kit and the two choirs in the film is a beautiful way to honour the deep ties between Wales and Patagonia.'
