It may be recalled that 29-year-old engineering graduate Siraj-Ur-Rehman, a native of Vizianagaram town and 28-year-old Syed Sameer, a native of Secunderabad, were arrested by Vizianagaram district police for allegedly making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and possessing explosive material. The duo is currently lodged in the central prison, Vizag city, following their judicial remand for 14 days.
A senior police officer said they have filed a petition in the court for police custody of the duo for 10 days to continue with the investigation in the major case.
The court gave the custody of the duo for seven days on Thursday night.
Siraj and Syed Sameer have been booked under UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Act and various sections under BNS.
The police said the custody of the duo was necessary to expose their alleged links with the few other people as they were apparently in touch with their handler who operates from a country in the Middle East for the past one year through social media accounts. The police custody is also necessary to know the exact plans of Siraj and Syed, the police added.

Karnataka Man Alleges Wife Forced Him To Convert After Marriage, Case Filed
Bengaluru: A man in Karnataka's Gadag district has alleged that he was forced to convert by his wife after their marriage. Vishal Kumar Gokavi said he had been in a relationship with Tahseen Hosamani for three years. He said they then registered their marriage in November 2024. However, after the marriage, Hosamani, he alleged, pressured him to marry again as per Muslim customs. Wanting to maintain peace in their relationship, he agreed and got married according to Muslim rituals on April 25. Gokavi has now claimed that his name was changed without his knowledge during the ceremony. He also said he was unknowingly converted by a 'Maulvi' (Muslim cleric) during the event. A video has gone viral that shows Gokavi getting married to Hosamani as per Muslim customs. After the ceremony, he said his family was preparing a wedding with Hindu rituals on June 5. He alleged that Hosamani had initially agreed, but later backed out under pressure from her family. Gokavi claimed that she warned him that if he did not convert to Islam, she would file a rape case against him. He also alleged that Hosamani and her mother, Begum Banu, had forced him to offer namaz and attend jamaat. The police on Wednesday registered a case under section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) and section 302 (protects individuals from actions intended to harm their religious sentiments) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

10-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted In Tamil Nadu, Man Seen Lifting Girl On Camera
Chennai: A 10-year-old school girl has been allegedly sexually assaulted in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and an investigation is underway. A video NDTV can't independently verify shows the minor girl walking alone being stalked by an unidentified man, who at one point is seen forcibly lifting the girl. The assault took place five days ago. A senior officer told NDTV, "Special teams have been formed to nab the culprit. We would be able to share some breakthrough this evening." Another officer added, "It's a sensitive issue. We can't reveal anything more now." BJP leader Annamalai has urged the police to nab the suspect soon saying, "The suspect roaming around is a threat to the society." This comes amid a spurt in sexual offences against women in Tamil Nadu and key opposition AIADMK raising the question of women safety in the state. The Tamil Nadu police and the ruling DMK deny these allegations claiming stringent swift action has been taken in each of these cases, and the trial fast tracked. They point out life sentence for the accused, both in the Anna University sexual assault case and in the sexual assault of a pregnant woman on a moving train.

POCSO case: SC grants anticipatory bail to accused; issues notice to Kerala government
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has issued notice and protected the petitioner-accused under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while highlighting the need for consideration of the entire case on merits. A two-judge bench of the top court, led by Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan passed the order. Arguing before the bench, counsel for the petitioner, Advocates Tarini K. Nayak and C. Arvind, claimed that the case was a product of a long-standing enmity between the petitioner and the complainant's father. It was pointed to that a delay of over four years in lodging the First Information Report (FIR) is a significant factor which casts doubt over the credibility of the complaint, suggesting the possibility of tutoring of the complainant by her father.
