Gurugram: A 16-year-old boy was apprehended on Monday for allegedly murdering a seven-year-old child, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds near the green belt along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Kalwadi village, officials from Bilaspur police station said. The victim's body was found with multiple stab wounds near the green belt along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Kalwadi village.
The minor suspect allegedly killed the boy with a pair of scissors on Saturday evening, reportedly holding a grudge against him for exposing a mobile phone theft two months ago, which led to the accused being forced to apologise to the victim's father, police said.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed to luring Ashish to an isolated spot and stabbing him 18–20 times before fleeing. He was tracked and apprehended from Kalwadi village in Nuh district late on Sunday evening.
'The suspect has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. He will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and further investigation is underway,' said Sandeep Kumar, Gurugram police spokesperson.
According to police, the body of the victim, identified as Ashish Kumar, was discovered on Sunday after police received a tip-off about a child's body lying near the expressway. A forensic team, fingerprint experts, and a duty magistrate were called to the spot to collect evidence. A blood-stained pair of scissors, believed to have been used in the murder, was recovered from the scene. The body was sent to Gurugram civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
In his complaint to the police, the victim's father, who lives with his family on rent in Fatehpur village, said both he and his wife work for a delivery company in Pathredi. On the evening of July 19, his wife returned home around 7pm and assumed Ashish was playing with friends. Later, the father left for work at 8pm. On July 20, while returning home, he heard about a child's body found near Kalwadi bus stand. Upon visiting the scene, he identified the body as his son's. The child had visible stab injuries to his chest and forehead.
The father told police that around two months ago, a mobile phone had gone missing from their home. Ashish had informed him that the phone was with a boy in the neighbourhood. He confronted the boy and retrieved the phone, following which both Ashish and the father asked the boy to apologise. Investigators said the humiliation caused by this incident allegedly prompted the boy to plan the murder.

Thane Court Acquits Man In 25-Year-Old Murder Case Over Lack Of Evidence

Thane: A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has acquitted a 46-year-old man accused of murdering a woman 25 years ago, citing lack of evidence and unreliable witness testimony. Sessions judge S B Agrawal acquitted Shambhubhai Manubhai Rawal of charges under sections 302 (murder), 452 (house trespass), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. A copy of the order dated July 23 was made available on Thursday. The sessions court had earlier acquitted Kundan Rawal, the husband of the victim Kunda Rawal, for her murder. In 2020, Rawal's associate Shambhubhai was arrested, and a fresh trial was initiated. The prosecution claimed that Kundan Rawal had conspired with Shambhubhai and a third accused, Suresh Nhavi (absconding), to murder his wife. Hansa Govindbhai Rawal, a relative who allegedly overheard the murder conspiracy, claimed that Kundan Rawal had offered Rs 5,000 to have his wife killed. On the day of the incident on February 17, 2000, Kundan Rawal had informed police that on returning home around 1.30 pm, his children reported their mother was missing. She was later found unconscious near the bathroom. A postmortem revealed death by asphyxia, along with abrasions on her neck and bruises on her jaw and forearm, suggesting crime. Judge Agrawal said Hansa Govindbhai Rawal, who, according to the prosecution, had illicit relations with Kundan Rawal and was the cause of the murder, had not supported the argument about conspiracy. The judge also noted the absence of direct evidence tying the accused to the crime. Additionally, two of the key prosecution witnesses - the dead woman's relatives Rakesh Rawal and Satishkumar Rawal - were not eyewitnesses and relied solely on hearsay, he said.

Delhi HC seeks NIA's response on Engineer Rashid's plea seeking waiver of travel cost for attending Parliament

The Delhi High Court Friday sought the National Investigation Agency (NIA)'s response on the plea filed by Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Engineer Rashid, challenging the costs imposed by a trial court as part of his custody parole conditions to attend Parliament. Rashid, who is an Independent Lok Sabha MP, also sought interim bail. On Tuesday, a Delhi court granted custody parole to Rashid from July 24 to August 4 to attend the Monsoon Session of Parliament, but rejected his interim bail plea. Rashid urged the trial court to either grant interim bail or permission to attend Parliament in custody, without payment of travel costs, as he was seeking to attend the session as part of his public duty and not for personal work. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, however, imposed travel costs on him. Challenging the trial court's order, Senior Advocate N Hariharan told a bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur Friday that despite the custody parole, Rashid was losing each day of the relief as he had not been able to attend the session due to the huge costs. Hariharan also submitted that Rashid has been 'saddled' with a cost of Rs 17 lakh to 'represent the public at large.' The bench posted the matter for further consideration on July 29, and issued notice to NIA. On the same day, the high court is also due to consider a plea by Rashid seeking regular bail after a trial court rejected the request on March 21. In March, while allowing Rashid to attend Parliament during the Budget session, the Delhi High Court imposed the condition that the lawmaker would bear the expense for his travel to Parliament while in the court's custody, accompanied by the police, and other arrangements. The jail authorities had estimated a daily cost of approximately Rs 1.45 lakh for travel and related arrangements, totalling Rs 8.74 lakh for Rashid to attend six days of Parliament. At the time, he had challenged the condition that required him to bear the costs before the HC. Subsequently, he had submitted that he is ready to deposit 50 per cent of the cost of over Rs 8.74 lakh for the police escort arrangement to attend Parliament. Recording Rashid's submission, the Delhi HC had directed that he would be allowed to attend Parliament after depositing the amount. Lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 2019 in a case of alleged terror funding, he was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. According to NIA, he used various public platforms to 'propagate the ideology of separatism and secessionism', was closely associated with various terrorist organisations, and wanted to 'legitimise' the United Jihad Council, a platform of anti-India militant groups in Jammu and Kashmir. On May 30, 2017, NIA registered a case under Indian Penal Code Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) against Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and other 'secessionist and separatist' leaders, including Rashid. NIA claimed they 'received and collected' funds through hawala channels in 'connivance with active militants of…terrorist organizations Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Lashkar-e-Toiba' to fund 'terrorist activities' in Jammu and Kashmir.

Delhi HC seeks NIA's response on Abdul Rashid's plea in terror funding case

The Delhi High Court on Friday sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a plea by jailed Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid seeking interim bail to attend the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid and in jail in a 2017 terror funding case, has also challenged a trial court order asking him to bear travel expenses of ₹1.44 lakh per day for attending Parliament in custody from July 24 to August 4. A bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur issued notice to the NIA on the plea and listed the matter for further hearing on July 29. The court is also scheduled to hear on July 29 Rashid's regular bail plea in the case. The Baramulla MP has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after he was arrested by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case. During the brief hearing, Rashid's counsel submitted that the MP has already been saddled with Rs 17 lakh cost to represent the public at large in Parliament. He said Rashid was previously allowed to attend Parliament and that he was losing every day as he was unable to attend the session due to the huge costs. Rashid sought interim bail or custody parole with travel expenses to carry out his duty as a parliamentarian. Custody parole entails a prisoner being escorted by armed police personnel to the place of visit. On July 22, the trial court granted custody parole to Rashid to attend the Monsoon session from July 24 to August 4, subject to payment of travel expenses. Rashid, who defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is facing allegations that he funded separatists and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the NIA's FIR, Rashid's name cropped up during the interrogation of businessman and co-accused Zahoor Watali. After being charge-sheeted in October 2019, a special NIA court framed charges against Rashid and others in March 2022 under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against the government), and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code and for offences relating to terrorist acts and terror funding under the UAPA.
