Analysts are anticipating more upside for GOOGL.
Alphabet is riding on strong cloud and search growth. Google Cloud is benefiting from accelerated growth across AI infrastructure, enterprise AI platform Vertex and strong adoption of Generative AI solutions. The company expects capital expenditures in 2025 to be relatively higher than in 2024, aimed at building technical infrastructure, primarily for servers, followed by data centers and networking. Its dominant position in the search engine market is a strong growth driver. In first-quarter 2025, GOOGL saw continued double-digit revenue growth in Search. AI Diversity According to a report in Bloomberg, South Korea's Samsung is seeking other options outside of Alphabet's AI Assistant Gemini for its Galaxy devices. In an interview with Choi Won-Joon, president and chief operating officer of Samsung's mobile division, it was reported that it is already in talks with Microsoft (MSFT) -backed OpenAI and Perplexity AI, which is backed by chip giant Nvidia (NVDA), SoftBank (SFTBY), and Amazon (AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos. The main driver, according to Choi, is to give its customers more choice on its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphone line next year. Samsung's current line-up features Alphabet's AI model, like much of the rest of the field of Android devices. 'We are talking to multiple vendors. As long as these AI agents are competitive and can provide the best user experiences, we are open to any AI agent out there,' Choi said. As can be seen below, innovation, including those of rivals, is one of the key risks to Alphabet stock and its investors. Allay Doubts It is also understood that Samsung is nearing a deal to invest in Perplexity and integrate its app and assistant. Like rival Apple (AAPL), the Galaxy phone maker is looking to augment its own efforts at artificial intelligence with the best available from outside providers. Beyond AI, the mobiles-to-chips conglomerate is also reportedly evaluating new application processors for the Galaxy S26 and considering both Qualcomm (QCOM) Inc. products and its in-house Exynos 2600. For the recently released Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung used the Exynos chipset in a foldable for the first time. According to reports, the company has sought to reduce reliance on Qualcomm and allay doubts about the efficiency and thermal performance of its Exynos line. Is GOOGL a Good Stock to Buy Now? Alphabet CFO reports spike in operating costs after $1.4B Texas settlement
This story was originally published on CFO Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily CFO Dive newsletter. Dive Brief: Alphabet's total operating expenses increased 20% to $26.1 billion during the second quarter, driven largely by legal costs, CFO Anat Ashkenazi said Wednesday. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced in May that he secured a $1.4 billion settlement with Alphabet over data privacy allegations. 'The biggest driver of growth [in operating costs] was expense for legal and other matters, which reflected the impact of $1.4 billion charge related to a settlement in principle of certain legal matters,' Ashkenazi said during a Wednesday earnings call. Dive Insight: Government litigation in areas such as data privacy and antitrust has been a growing headache for big tech companies and their finance leaders in recent years. Paxton sued Alphabet's Google in 2022, accusing the tech giant of unlawfully tracking and collecting users' private data regarding geolocation, incognito searches and biometric data. In a May press release announcing the $1.4 billion settlement, Paxton's office said the amount marked the highest recovery nationwide against Google for any attorney general's enforcement of state privacy laws. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice is pushing for the breakup of Google as part of a major antitrust case. The litigation dates back to late 2020 when the first Trump administration and several states sued Google alleging that it had violated the Sherman Act by holding monopolies in the search and search advertising markets. 3 stats from Google's Q2 show how it is weathering advertising turmoil
This story was originally published on Marketing Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Marketing Dive newsletter. Digital advertising is sitting at a point of uncertainty as tariffs roil the economy and artificial intelligence (AI) disrupts the ecosystem. Those threats didn't ding Google's performance in Q2 2025. Search and other, the company's largest segment, increased revenue nearly 12% year over year to $54.2 billion while YouTube notched a 13% YoY gain to $9.8 billion. Overall Q2 ad revenue came in at $71.3 billion, up 10.4% over the year-ago period, according to an earnings report from parent Alphabet. Search experienced growth 'across all verticals,' CFO Anat Ashkenazi said on a call discussing the results with analysts, led by the retail and financial services industries. Google also continued to see consumer traction for its efforts to inject more generative AI features into the search experience. By the numbers $54.2B Q2 ad revenue for Google's key search and other segment, which saw growth "across all verticals." AI Overviews have yet to dent monetization 2M The number of advertisers using Google's generative AI tools to run ads. That base is up 50% over the same period last year 40B Hours of YouTube sports content now watched annually. Google is making live sports a bigger priority for the video platform AI Overviews, text boxes that streamline answers to queries using generative AI, are drawing over 2 billion monthly active users (MAUs). A separate AI Mode for delving into longer-form, complex searches has over 100 million MAUs in the U.S. and India, where it is currently available. 'We see monetization at approximately the same rate, which gives us actually a really strong base on which we can then innovate and drive actually more innovative and new and next-generation ad formats,' said Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler when asked by an analyst about the impact of AI Overviews on search advertising. Google has worked to put more AI tools in the hands of advertisers as well, including an AI Max for search suite of solutions that launched in May. Executives claim the features typically drive 14% more conversions for brands. Beyond campaign optimization, more companies are adopting Google's generative AI products for advertising creative. The number of advertisers using Google's AI-powered asset generation tools is up 50% over last year to 2 million, according to Schindler. 'Google's AI-powered products for advertisers, including AI Max for Search campaigns, Smart Bidding Exploration, Demand Gen, and Asset Studio are performing as expected, though they force advertisers to cede control and transparency in exchange for performance,' said Forrester Senior Analyst Nikhil Lai in emailed comments. 'Nonetheless, they'll continue being adopted by agencies and brands seeking more yield from crunched budgets.' YouTube was also cited as a point of strength in Q2 as the video platform becomes a more serious player in TV and as its TikTok lookalike, called Shorts, advances its approach to monetization and generates over 200 billion daily views. Shorts in the U.S. are now earning as much ad revenue per hour watched as traditional in-stream video on YouTube, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said. Executives referenced Nielsen data that show YouTube has become the top player in streaming, momentum that Google is trying to extend into areas like live sports. YouTube will broadcast its first exclusive NFL game in September following season kick-off (its connected TV service, YouTube TV, also carries NFL Sunday Ticket). Consumers watch over 40 billion hours of sports content via YouTube annually, per Pichai. Many questions still hang over Google's business, which is contending with an antitrust crackdown, rising competition from AI rivals like ChatGPT and the potential for more concrete impacts from the trade war, should it dent advertiser appetites. Google is also heading into a period where it will lap a deluge of political ad spending from 2024, which could lead to unfavorable comparables. 'I think it's really too early to comment on anything [happening] in the second half of the year,' said Schindler.
